AT was basically Greg Olsen-ish for Bryce. In so many ways. He was keeping stuff on right page and really more of small TE than actual slot WR out there. Canales isn’t going to be able to just insert Hunter into that role on the O that AT was doing. Hunter is a true slot WR. And a niche one at that. Might take some time to try to figure out plays/calls really insert Renfrow into. Thats not really Canales’ base what Hunter does so well

Coker a huge loss. Got to think that was the most reliable target week 1

Justin Jefferson would look bad if I was throwing balls to him. preseason game issue clearly a bad QB issue. Multiple hospital balls and throws to wrong routes

In 2024 the Panthers only had the 25th highest run ratio. We were very pass heavy when we ran our O. Biggest issue is we were SUPER inefficient on offense last year. We ran the fewest offensive plays. Horrible on 3rd down. 28th pass completion %. Bryce lead the league in bad pass %. Hard to get those numbers up when you are that inefficient overall as an O. -
I think the college targeting rule (or really the punishment) is the worst in all of sports. I’d didn’t see these hits but ejection for simply any hit that meets the definition of targeting is just too harsh for me.

Yep. GT with 3 straight turnovers and then backed up on the 1 for the start of the 4th series. Colorado blew the gifts overall
-
GT with 3 fumbles last year. 2 already tonight and making life easy for Colorado. Neither forced.

People see what they want. I have also stated since the moment we drafted Bryce….a badly owned team was screwing HIM over by setting him up to fail by coach/scheme design. Core criticism isn’t actually Bryce…it’s Carolina/front office. I could see Bryce being good. I could see Canales being good. But I don’t see them as a pairing. Football is about fit. Board is doing what the board does. People were idiots who dared question the All Star staff. People raged when Fitterer was criticized. They raged when Rhule was criticized. Until they didn’t. -
I sort of don't want to invest or spend anything until Evero is gone and we have a new defensive direction. Evero feels much like Matt Rhule going into his 3rd season. I mean, we KNOW he is getting fired. We are we even doing this. Why are we wasting our time and delaying fixing things for ANOTHER year.

they claim it is a scheme issue. but they are claiming a scheme issue for a guy has had a lot of recent off field issues. Commissioners exempt list last year for some cocaine, assault, etc Think he got off on all of it but the coke. -
Hunter wanted to play for Carolina and seemingly only for Carolina. He didn't make the team. His comeback attempt was not to achieve the status of the on and off practice squad team (for a bad team). So I would assume he most likely just walks away. only inconsistent aspect ever reported or seen (and cameras and eyeballs are on all of it), is when they put him in preseason games w/ a bad QB throwing hospitals (and he still pulled in hospital balls) and zero positive plays occurring because of that. Every coach we have ever had bullshits on the mic about the actions of the Panthers. I still say its simplistic. There was really one spot. It was Moore or Renfrow up for that. Dave Canales went with his guy (simply because it's his guy) and he can't get on the mic say it that way. So there is spin on the decision.

I mean, those numbers aren't wiping away the issue. 30th ranked pass O 32nd 40+ yard pass plays 26th 20+ yard pass plays 31st yards per pass attempt The website's job is too sell excitement entering season. Out of the nine stats, only one really zeros in on getting downfield and that is the efficiency aspect. So it's not a # about when you do it or how much you do it.....it's just rating efficiency when you happen to do it (which isn't a lot for Bryce in a passing tree scheme that generally requires it). because if Bryce did go downfield with the efficiency rating suggested and they weren't limited in volume....the passing stats above would be flipped on their head and we wouldn't be bottom of the NFL there. -
I think I blurred the two looking back as well...when Mike was talking about balling so hard he didn't need to pay attention in meetings. Unblurring the two makes Davis even more silly. 50 yards a game ain't ballin so hard you should be checkin out lol. maybe it's Davis' overall football mentality he spoke of in college and in the pros.....kept him from getting anything from break glass emergency reps.

Brutal opening game for the Noles Clemson doesn’t do it but I’d rather get a nice Wofford game in week 1 vs taking on the SEC every year out of the gate

Mike Davis arrived in Charlotte mid-season while CMC was pulling off the 1000/1000 season. He signed here and had 2 total touches that year. CMC was Norv's Carolina Tomlinson. It's just lack of awareness on Mike's part. He was insurance. And we eventually had to cash in that policy later down the road when Rhule got here.
-
my dawg, Mike Davis didn't come across good in that podcast on multiple levels. No one should be upset someone says that. Seems to me you are trying to find disrespect to be upset with me over. not sure you even actually read my post before you jumped into your reply, given what your fact correction was.

Former RB Mike Davis on Rhule and CMC

People also were just bending over their backs to defend everything about Matt Rhule. I think the lack of reporting/eyeballs because of COVID made that defense possible because there was really no way to know what was going on in house then given how limited things were. I think going into that next season when camps were back open to the reporters, with Teddy's messaging in my mind, it was pretty glaring how in over his head Matt Rhule was if you wanted to see it. For awhile it was always some else's fault. Teddy was the idiot. Then it was Joe Brady. Took folks longer than it should of to be like.....oh wait, it's the head guy running the show that doesn't know what he is doing. I also don't think Matt Rhule is the villain some want him to be. I think generally speaking, most of Rhule's players liked him as a human. He just had no clue how to do the NFL thing. Tepper just can't get it right. Rhule was the HC that needed Jim Caldwell/Capers. Then he gave that to the HC that didn't need it in Frank. But I do think through all the hires and fires, you can see evidence of Tepper trying to get the puzzle. -
Mike Davis is like yeah, why would these coaches expect me to watch film on our next opponent if I'm playing good. Yeah, I really don't pay attention to a lot of stuff around me if I'm doing good. also Mike Davis, how dare they give all the reps to CMC. from just listening to that interview, I think Mike Davis likely was often in Mike Davis' way and he can't comprehend that aspect. Even his story of why he hated people.....was weird. He hated Steve Spurrier because Spurrier was like hey Mike, Marcus Lattimore left...and we need you to step up into that role/void and be more for us. And Mike Davis was like, can you believe that motha trucka!! Nah Steve. Just give me the ball and leave me alone (paraphrasing it all obviously but that was the gist).
-
what I took most from that interview in general….is I don’t think I would actually like Mike Davis. at one point the hosts on the show basically called him out that he dislikes everyone Mike Davis actually seems like the bad teammate who seemed genuinely confused about why he would need to do basic work if he had played well
-
Totally missed Mike Vick somehow becoming a college head coach
-
sort looking forward to the SC vs VT highlights. I mean, Beamer basically has to script up a Beamer Ball play that game I would think…..seems like it should be required

Canales is 100% drafting dudes for on O that fits what his passers did in Tampa and Seattle. Bryce Young just doesn’t push the ball downfield. Baker, Geno and Russell were all above league in pushing the ball downfield with big shots. All were above league average in yards per attempt with Canales. Bryce was 34th last yards per attempt last year. And that’s why even when the “good” Bryce existed the Panthers pass O was still pedestrian overall. The volume isn’t there. And Canales’ O is too bland for the deep shots to not offset that. And Bryce’s bad throw % in this O is just way too high given the scheme is already built on lower % throws. -
I think you can find Hunter talking about it somewhere but it always sounded like it was always a uniquely Carolina specific comeback. Scratch the last football itch while also keeping his family life here intact and in place. and I bet the current Panther ambiguous plan just ain’t the offer for him to come back to football.

only 1 QB in the history of mankind has managed a winning record with his opportunities in the David Tepper era. Bring in PJ. He has NFL tools. He will at least be entertaining if called upon. How is that not better than Andy. *PJ Walker bandwagon is back up now that it is....not...time for for the percolator.
