The Panthers’ Bryce Young Problem is Getting Old
CRA replied to TylerDurden's topic in Carolina Panthers
Narratives have to change real quick to defend bad players. when Bryce was drafted it was THE best place for any rookie to land. All star staff. But since the anomaly QB stunk there was little coaching. Generally the worst foobtall teams have one thing in common. A massive QB issue. Bad QBs make everything worse. Any small crack becomes the Grand Canyon. Bryce had mental concerns at Bama. Bryce seemed to need a mental break 3 games into his rookie season. Bryce seems to consistently fold to pressure at the start of every single season (3 in a row) being the worst version of himself. THE only time he even flirted with okay play……was with house money and believed to be done in Carolina. In Bryce’s last 3 games….HE was good in one of them. The last one. In fact, it’s the only actual good game of his entire career if you aren’t going a Bryce curve -
This video perfectly sums up Bryce Young/Carolina IMO

I mean, he just isn’t a NFL QB and for whatever reason we are doing the Matt Rhule season 3 thing with Bryce. Everyone should know what is coming but here are…..just doing it and wasting everyone’s time for no real good reason. Rhule still had his folks entering that pointless year too. But most knew it was over before it started in reality -
His completion % wasn’t even high. Think OP misstated a stat. Bryce was 30th this week in completion %. The bottom is where he has been every year in the NFL in that department. you gotta dig real deep in analytics to make a Bryce argument

Once Carr left, things suddenly weren’t as bad. The losing seasons went away starting the first year. And they didn’t bring in Lamar Jackson, it was just an okay Matt Schuab but yeah, logically we are the Carr Texans at this point.

It’s largely because XL is in the doghouse. It’s like the 3 Renfrow balls. Blaming him is just comically bad takes. Renfrow set Bryce up for 2 big plays….he couldn’t make the throws though and thanked him with a hospital ball. Renfrow won’t last the year. Renfrow while tiny and high IQ… is a baller. He will put his tiny frame out there. Bryce will end his comeback

Fox Sports has WRs drops for the same folks….plus a KC drop. Maybe it’s not all updated yet but pro football reference, Fox and those types are way more useful resources than Big Dawg Fantasy Takes that has 10 Panther drops pulled from Imagination Land. the real point is a drop by a WR isn’t justification for your QB being a complete nightmare….who then pads his stats to hide how horrific he was in the final 8 minutes. WRs are imperfect in good days by good QBs.
-
I use Pro Football Reference. Please advise if there is a better location to retrieve the actual NFL stats? Maybe they haven't fully updated. PFF and fantasy football sites IMO aren't where it's at. They seem to be in the entertainment game and manufacturing debate stage.
-
They aren't credited with drops. That's just PFF. Not sure why they are still being pimped this hard when week 1 really highlights how bad they can be at times. Especially when they manufactured Bryce's grade like they did. Some 1984 stuff going on there....PFF telling folks not to believe their eyes and ears.
-
didn't say it was. Just addressing the billion posts about drops. being wide open over the top doesn't mean much either if your QB can't get the ball out there properly.
-
it was just clarifying some confusion, there have been about 48 billion posts made by some Bryce apologist that WRs dropped balls and let Bryce Young down (and that's why we sucked). So it was just clarifying the WRs had no drops, and the QBs that did see a drop....it didn't ruin their teams day.
-
this. although, I think you gotta slightly worry about a very small handful of competent players. Horn, Brown, Hunt, etc. Eventually, everyone starts thinking like Theilen.
-
that's exactly why Canales got fugged. They were only forced to play Bryce because they allowed that to be what happened when Andy got hurt. The talk was all about trading Bryce Young given it was clearly over. Morgan and Carolina didn't pull the trigger.......they allowed for the nightmare comeback (of meh) to occur. In the end, it blew up in their face sort of like the Wilks tank job attempt. Wilks blew that up in their faces too. Bryce ended up fugging up their plans. Carolina can't do anything right. Even when they sort of get it right in the big picture. They should of dealt Bryce. And if you want to actually tank....you keep Rhule and trade CMC. You don't insert of functional HC into the dysfunction.

Only 4 NFL Quarterbacks Sunday had WRs drop passes on Sunday. Allen, Rodgers, Tua, and Lawrence. 3 of those 4 QBs walked away with wins.
-
exactly, this is on the level of David Carr.....yet unlike parting w/ David Carr after a year we are entering year 3. We are basically the David Carr Houston Texans right now. Rationalizing how it is really everyone else making Carr/Bryce bad.
-
Bill Parcells did a great job summing it up at draft time. "I realize there have been a couple of good short quarterbacks, but most of the guys doing these jobs are not 5-10. So if you draft people that look like the people that are already doing these jobs, your percentage (of hitting on them) is greater than if you draft someone who doesn't look like them." and specifically mentioning Bryce Young Parcells said Young "better walk on water"

Russell Wilson is an old washed QB on this 5th team in 6 years. Being better than one random rotating QB each week is basically the life of Bryce Young. Caleb Williams plays the game wildly different than Bryce with wildly different tools. Bryce Young had frankly several relatively easy homerun plays he botched downfield. Panthers WRs winning vertically and BY should can't get it done. Also, there were plays to be made on the ground. Make no mistake Caleb sucks. But Caleb is in a vastly different tier of QB in terms of tools and throws. Caleb can make throws and runs that just don't exist for Bryce on a good day. There was just absurd stuff in reality on the table in terms of plays that could of been made. Bryce just isn't good. It's the primary problem in a sea of problems.
-
Canales wants that vertical ball and BY just can't do it in the realm of what Canales wants. You can beat your DB for the homerun ball and Bryce is going to turn it into a 50/50 jump ball or force the WR to the boundary. And that's if he is set. If you get Bryce on his backfoot and off set.....he can't make a ton of throws properly. it's just a really bland O you gotta pull w/ Bryce. The highlight is the quirky scramble until humans get close.
-
I’m sure it’s just a random coincidence that the Carolina Panthers employ a bunch of PFF folks to help build the roster (brag about it) ….and PFF just happens to be giving illogical ratings to our starting QB. you can conspiracy theorize that a couple different ways….but it sure seems like there could be odds our guys at BOA are just getting a solid done for them by their people at PFF to spin their poor decision at QB (and QB is what makes are breaks most folks). OR….PFF is just bad and we now are making decisions of th-5 exact poor logic.
-
No problem. I addressed that in my 2 things I was wrong about and 1 I was right about post. XL at this point just needs to be deemed Laviska Shenault. A bad WR who has great athletic traits. Scheme him up a quirky play but he can't play WR at this level right now. We need Tmac and Coker on the outside. Renfrow in the slot. Maybe work XL into some slot relief for Renfrow w/ a schemed up play and some run blocking. I was wrong on XL. Given I didn't see this preseason I have him more benefit of the doubt than most. But I'm not going to be some Bryce Young apologist for XL that denies reality. XL stinks as a WR. We bet on raw talent and lost that bet. Is what it is.

Well, it's not a super serious post. But yeah, it is sort of fitting......Bryce is solo just watching a shell game on the jumbotron away from all his teammates....and the first thing he does that drive when asked to do something was immediately throw a pick. Not really the definition of "dialed in" lol. And the immediate pick just is the comedy icing on that cake. Tone is set better at some high schools around town IMO. -
I'd wager if you put all 31 QBs in that exact spot....most end up with something better than what Bryce did there. They see Saunders. Or they at least put the ball in the realm of play for XL (4th down is an INT folks can handle). Or they just tuck it and cut back inside and try to fight for 1 yard if nothing exists. I don't think the majority of the 31 chuck it into the stands on 4th and 1
-
Entire Panther team is all together getting ready for their drive to start. This is the 13:26 minute mark in the second quarter. Well, except for one player off by himself. It's Bryce uniquely separated from the group just chilling. What do you think Bryce is doing? Hyping up teammates? Getting on the same page for the upcoming drive? Nah, he is consumed w/ the Jaguars jumbotron and the silly games they are showing the fans. What happens his very FIRST pass of that drive? Interception where he doesn't see the S streaking down right in front of him. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DOWX3HJiWix/
-
50% of his passing yards were in the final 8 minutes of the 4th quarter.
-
I don't know what is worse, using clearly bad PFF takes from week 1.....or the even more comical (hard to do) fantasy takes from some random on twitter guy who awards horrific throws by Bryce as...unseen yards lol. I can deep dive stats and cherry pick stuff to make any player I want good or bad. That's the world we are living in now. It's just lying at this point.
