  1. I think there's a pretty good chance it is one or the other, honestly. When someone has the raw talent he has, it seems like they are most likely to either be a great starter or a total bust. Last year Darnold was unquestionably in the later category, but the situation with Gase etc makes all this hard to read.
  2. It is definitely unique. He certainly showed much less than Tannehill overall, but he had much less time to do so before Gase got to him, too. I'm cautiously optimistic about him, and like the flexibility he gives to the team this draft. I was very worried we were going to reach for a QB.
  3. When you watch his highlights, Darnold makes some special plays. The problem is that the plays he makes between the highlights are often real problematic. Hopefully good coaching can help clean that up. We saw how Gase took Tannehill, who appeared to make good and safe decisions with the ball (~2% of his throws as INTs, which is find for a young player), to a terrible decision maker (>3% as INTs over his 2 years with gase). Can Darnold recover how Tannehill did? Time will tell...
  4. Dunno how Darnold will work out but I'll be optimistic he could be good. If not, I hope he's so very bad he gets us a very high pick next year.
  5. Some of you guys are ridiculous. We all know he's gone. He isn't talking crap. He's minding his own business. This seeks like a mature and fine way to handle this. Also why do people think he has burner social media accounts? Lol. I've not seen anything like that confirmed.
  6. Less concerned with the numbers than his overall decision making and ability to make something happen with the game on the line. IMO, I'm treating this like his sophomore season in terms of expectations... I want to see someone that shows flashes of greatness, limits repeated mistakes, and improves over the course of a season. Having him play like an all pro, as some seem to want, would be great, but I don't think it is likely given how much work Darnold is going to need.
  7. I don't think Darnold will ultimately end up an All Pro, but it is worth noting that people touting how Tannehill showed more before Tennessee are right... but he showed more before Gase showed up, and he looked arguably as bad as Darnold did while Gase was there... Tannehill went from ~2% ints thrown before Gase, a fine number, to 3+%, which is bad decision making indeed. He went from multiple 4k yard, 20+ TD seasons with low int% to being a total disaster of decision making. But as a rookie, he showed as much or maybe less than Darnold did as a rookie. Hell, even his second year was pretty comparable to Darnold's... The difference is, Tannehill's HUGE downtown happened in his 5th year, when Gase joined the Fins (and Tannehill got injured), while Darnold was exposed to Gase in his 2nd year, and the huge potential so many saw near the end of Darnold's first year did not seem to be realized. The huge knock on Tannehill in his last couple years in Miami was how bad his decision making had become. What's the big knock on Darnold? So there's reasons to be optimistic, and IMO that is why we made the trade.
  8. Teddy is not nearly as bad as many Panthers fans think... but he's not a franchise QB. Seems like a good to great backup and possibly a very good mentor for a young QB if talk of his demeanor / attitude are true. Wherever he ends up I wish him well... and hope he learns when to be aggressive...
  9. Right, but I wouldn't be surprised if we draft someone in a later round if it's somebody they like.
  10. I wouldn't assume the Panthers avoid drafting a QB. Darnold wasn't handed the keys to the franchise. He's going to be given a chance to compete.
  11. I remember people talking about how Darnold had turned the corner and was posted for a great year 2. And even though he wasn't great he wasn't as bad as he was year 3, or even close...
  12. Why not? He wasn't bad (especially for the Saints) and seems like a pretty good person.
  13. Honestly overall I like the trade. I do think a non conditional 2nd seems high... but ah well.
  14. A 2nd round pick next year is still a 2nd round pick...
  15. Don't like the 2nd next year in there too.. Seems way too steep.
  16. sure, there is some of that, but it is more than that. there are historical trends and at this point it just feels predictable what adjectives are being used for what prospects. blech.
  17. The narrative around Justin Fields not working hard and not being a smart player is beginning to wander into Tinderbox territory, but it is the narrative around him that is developing. It is depressing that such a false narrative persists, and it is so easy to dispel with even a minor amount of effort.
  18. Sounds like this happens all the time. Where are the examples of the dozen+ fake claims against someone?
  19. Watson made statements regarding the victims careers and prospects therein that were interpreted as threats by the victims. As they didn't relate to physical violence, hard to know. Is it normal to ask for a NDA type of agreement with a masseuse? That was a pattern I noticed, was attempts to get many of these women to agree to something more formal not to discuss the massage, which seemed weird.
  20. Several women in my life have been (physically) sexually harassed, or assaulted, and one was raped. None have gone to the police. I believe all of them.
  21. So given how common this supposedly is can you give me some links and details to actual cases involving >12 plaintiffs where it was all completely fabricated?
  22. Buzbee seems to be centering himself in this case and it is disturbing and frustrating given the importance and magnitude of the accusations against Watson. The last line of his statement about seeking other law enforcement is very peculiar.
  23. that's why Teddy is so infuriating. he has the ability to do so much more than he does, as he regularly shows early in games and often between the 20s. but he just seems unable to trust himself, or the players around him, or the coaches, or whatever... he can't get it done. Teddy isn't terrible because he's bad at QB, he's terrible as an option for us because he is anti-clutch, and if you want to win in the NFL, you need to be clutch.
  24. It may just be a matter of making sure they have a couple good eyes on Fields. I personally prefer Fields so I hope they do, too.
  25. Given Rhule has already seen Mac Jones quite a bit, in this particular case, I wouldn't read TOO much into it.
