Who should we draft at 9?
-
I don’t think it’s that simple. It would be more like they have found their guy in an unlikely place and can use Lance to get more assets to build a team around their (potentially proven) young QB. An extreme example would be the Pats trading Bledsoe for a 1st when Brady came out of no where to prove he is the guy. They didn’t think Bledsoe was bad or washed up, just knew they had their future QB by dumb luck and could get a return for their other QB. With that said I would keep Lance for at least one more year if I were them to make sure Purdy keeps up his play and you can put him in blowouts/preseason to let the league see how he has developed to drive up his value. Keep feelers out there and you also have a young backup with huge potential in the mean time.

I agree with most of what you are saying but @Jackie Leewatches games and is pretty rational on here. We will all have different opinions on different prospects I just like to explain why I feel a certain way about them. Hell NFL teams with all their resources are going to have huge ranges on different prospects, especially QBs which are by far the hardest to project at the next level.

I get there are plenty of red flags when looking at Levis. Check out his 21 season when he wasn’t playing hurt and was able to run the ball more. It’s a solid season for a Kentucky QB playing against tough competition (they only had 3 losses that year). I think this past year he was playing injured with an OC that didn’t know how to use him. For example their RT was one of the worst I’ve seen so why not roll him out more and buy some more time? He also has plenty of physical ability (age is a concern), but I could see him being like Herbert and looking much better in the NFL when the staff actually plays him to his strengths. Stroud, Young, AR, then Levis is my order I think… AR and Levis are upside picks with AR having a higher ceiling (also younger) and Levis having a higher floor. If I’m gambling on potential I’m swinging for the fences with AR though.

Damn that just destroyed this thread. Also which was of those NFC QBs would we trade away first rounds picks to acquire? Maybe Hurts? AFC is Mahomes, Herbert, Allen, and Burrow without a doubt… Maybe Jackson or Lawrence. You can make the playoffs with an average QB if your team/staff is strong enough, but an elite QB will keep you playoff relevant consistently, even with missing roster pieces.

Bosa had 0 sacks. So overrated and doesn’t show up for big games. Am I doing it right?
-
If they traded 3 first rounds picks for him and think he is still a legit QB then why would they trade him? His ceiling is still higher than Purdy’s. If they are willing to trade him away (especially for cheap) then buyer beware.

Kittle also missed some games too for Lance if I remember correctly.

I liked Lance coming out and the Niners were willing to give up Jimmy G for him. I just don’t want another QB that some other team isn’t interested in anymore. We just need to draft one.

Fans were just excited we actually drafted a QB. Hitting on one in the 3rd round is extremely rare though…

So which QB do we think will be available at #9?

Souped up Baker with the right staff could be deadly. Levis isn’t my top choice, but I think he has potential. I like to look at his 2021 season when he was able to run because he wasn’t injured. Better stats and he had UK with only 3 losses. Give him a good OL and OC and who knows what will happen. Physically he checks all the boxes. -

He is definitely one or two in this class. Next year is wide open, plus an injury can ruin his career. Most would declare in that case right? -
Yeah if we go with a defensive guy it’s Wilks. I have a feeling we want Johnson though. Plus we interviewed way more offensive guys which makes me think we are leaning that way…
-
Which makes sense because both of those guys would want complete roster control. Rhule scared Tepper from doing that again, plus I think he told Fitt he gets to be a real GM this time.
-
Yeah and it looks like the NIL is going all in on getting him to stay. I still think he declares though. He might be the top pick.

Interesting that Stroud is pretty close to Young and people are questioning Stroud under pressure and thinking Young excels under it.... -

It was hike the ball and AR buys as much time as he can while they try to get open and then they either drop it or run the wrong route. They went pretty run heavy later because their WRs (who weren't great to begin with) were injured. Their offense excelled when AR could run and make defenses account for his running, bringing them off the WRs. They didn't let him run that much thought because he was banged up and according to @Varking they didn't have much behind AR... Just check out the Utah game when the team was healthy and AR was able to play his style of offense. He was uncontainable.... -
Yeah we need someone to start diving in on the draft and decide who our next QB will be. Johnson works for me if he is the guy.
-
The only bad thing I can see is waiting that long to draft a player and hoping he is still there, especially one playing the most premium position there is. It just takes one team to ruin that after many picks of waiting. I wouldn’t be against taking a QB at 9 then Hooker again in the 4th if he is still there. Throw him on IR and you’ve just increased your chances of getting it right. Even if he develops into a solid backup that’s a pick well spent.

Can’t get hungover if you stay drunk…

It’s the style of play he wants. Wilks is a great leader, but he likes the Fox/Rivera run the ball and lean on your defense (which makes sense since that’s his specialty). He has shown a play not to lose/conservative style which I’m not a fan of. If he can bring a great OC with him then I’m ok with it. I just don’t know if we could retain a great OC.

https://www.bleachernation.com/bears/2022/12/21/that-bears-offensive-line-is-getting-yet-another-makeover/ The problem is they constantly had injuries and were rotating players around every week. This is from December 21 where they were cracking the top 10, but the following week Fields took 12 hits (6 were sacks) and PFF put no blame on Fields for any of the hits/sacks. Considering how few times he passes in that offense getting hit 12 times and sacked 6 should have had them drop in their rankings, but apparently it didn't? Makes me wonder if it's something like blown assignments or defenses sending more players than we have blockers. OL also ranks is a top need for them in the offseason, which wouldn't make sense if they were a true top 10. Both lines and WRs are they biggest needs. https://theathletic.com/4018874/2022/12/20/bears-offseason-needs-wide-receiver/ -
I don’t think I want anyone from the Bill Belichick tree. Ryan seems like the best option for the defensive guys, but if you are going that route it will be hard to pass up Wilks. I still think we are getting an offensive guy. Veteran options Reich or Caldwell and upcoming new options Johnson and Eagles OC.
