That's what I was thinking. If we trade for Payton (gross) then we will not have our top pick next year. That makes it very difficult to move up in this draft to acquire our guy AND makes it hard to land one in the next draft (which looks to be loaded). I have a feeling the Payton route leads to an expensive vet QB like Brady or Carr and just screws up our cap/draft for several years. Give me the new younger coach that will have the patience to develop a rookie QB plus our picks.

Just think if we miss on a QB this year because we can’t trade up without our future first AND have to miss out on next year’s loaded class because that first is gone, we can all thank Sean Payton…

It's also different to me if these old coaches have been with their franchise for a while now. I couldn't picture any of them going to a new team and starting over for the long term. I am definitely assuming the worst in him because I don't like him or want him here. I don't think we have enough cap space to lure too much talent this year (unless we do restructuring and make things difficult down the road). I kind of like the idea of a young offensive minded HC paired with a rookie QB and then build around them.

Would you want to bring in Pete Carroll at 70 years old? Just wondering where your line is or if you have one. Trading away future assets for an older coach that has already won a Super Bowl just seems a little sort sighted to me. I just see him wanting to sign vets and go straight into win now mode and screw over the future. I don't see him developing a young rookie QB, he will probably want Carr or Jackson (trading away more future picks). If we were just signing one like Reich (similar age) to help turn our franchise around and build stability then for some reason it just sits better with me. It doesn't help that I am EXTREMELY bias on this because I hate Sean Payton.....

Now make it a 59 year old coach that has already won a Super Bowl and enjoyed a nice long career. There is nothing left to prove. He could retire in 2-3 years and be content.

I hope none of them sign him. Also if it gets down to one team it will be hard to pry away a first rounder for him.

Yet he is still there. It's also a lot less common for a 36 year old coach to retire and go to broadcasting than a 60 year old one.

Because at some point people want to retire. I just feel like he is at a point at his career where there is nothing left to prove. He could walk away in 2-3 years and go back to broadcasting with no issues. I mean he walked away from NO after their cap was jacked up and Brees retired.

We dodged the whole Deshaun Watson circus and now we are trying to trade for an old coach that was over bounty gate and coached our rivals. Signing Payton is bad enough, giving away a future 1st to do so is just pathetic. We have some weird obsession with rethreads....

Don't trade for a 59 year old coach who constantly choked in the playoffs. He won't hesitate to walk away and join broadcasting if things are looking bad. There is nothing for him to prove. I want one of these young OCs while keeping all of our picks.

Yeah I agree 100%. They need to be sold on him to draft him period, especially if they are throwing in future picks to acquire him.

Yeah teams don’t trade out of “sure things.” We inquired about Burrow but the Bengals said nope.

Yep, when the rules are catering to the passing game like they are now teams should definitely take advantage.

The problem is holding on to the good OC. If he looks great in one year then he will more than likely get some HC looks. See Eagles, Lions, Giants, and Bills OCs.

From 9 to 5 wouldn't mortgage our future. A future 1st would be the most it would require IMO. Maybe one of our 2nds plus next year's 2nd.
