  1. Article from the turd himself: Sorry, Panthers. You apparently didn’t make the cut, again. The team that tried (twice) and failed (twice) to get quarterback Deshaun Watson previously was linked to former Saints coach Sean Payton for 2023. The team’s official response was something less than a full-throated denial. Regardless, Payton widely is believed to be destined to return to coaching in 2023. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, citing an unnamed source close to Payton, lists the Dolphins, Chargers, and Cowboys as teams that could draw Payton’s interest in 2023. The source added the catch-all “among other teams,” so there may still be hope for the Panthers and other potentially interested teams. The main factors for Payton are, per Jackson: (1) warm weather; (2) a roster that can contend; and (3) control over personnel decisions. The Cowboys already are on the short list to pursue Payton, despite the ongoing efforts of owner Jerry Jones to put the kibosh on the subject. (As reported in Playmakers, the Cowboys nearly hired Payton in 2019.) The other two teams are surprising. Although the source told Jackson that Payton would never lobby for a job that’s already filled, Jason Garrett serve as head coach of the Cowboys when the pieces were put in place behind the scenes for the Cowboys to hire Payton. So even if he wouldn’t “lobby,” he also wouldn’t slam the door in the face of an owner who is interested in hiring him, regardless of whether that owner currently has a coach under contract. Jackson, given his beat, focuses on the Dolphins. Despite the fact that the story was grossly underreported (in large part because reporters working for ESPN and NFL Network flatly ignored it), the Dolphins’ clandestine pursuit of Payton and quarterback Tom Brady was one of the biggest developments of the offseason. Jackson doesn’t slam the door on the possibility of Dauphins owner Stephen Ross rekindling his interest in Payton, if the team disappoints under first-year coach Mike McDaniel. If would be awkward to say the least, and it would be expensive. But if Ross wants Brady and if Brady wants Payton, buying out McDaniel’s contract becomes part of the cost of doing business. And that’s the thing to remember. Brady will be a free agent in 2023. The Payton-Brady partnership could still happen in Miami next year. Frankly, McDaniel doesn’t deserve to be saddled with that speculation before he ever coaches a single game. Anyone who pays any attention to the NFL knows that anything can happen, however. If not Payton-Brady, it could be Payton-Herbert. Or Payton-Prescott. Wherever Payton goes (and he likely will be coaching somewhere in 2023), he’ll want to be in a place that has a quarterback, because that will be the most important factor in Payton’s effort to become the first coach in league history to win a Super Bowl with two different franchises https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/07/13/new-report-links-sean-payton-to-dolphins-chargers-cowboys-for-2023/
  2. I have hopes that he can be the future of the team. I absolutely feel like a complete red shirt year will do wonders for his development. It will also give our team time to develop and build depth as we are still young and Unproven. Corral starting this year could do more harm than good in my opinion. He’s a third round pick and should not have pressure to start at all this season. With Baker and Sam locked in with what we are paying them he can sit back and learn the NFL and have a real shot to compete for a starting role next year. If he becomes the starter we will be set up perfect to have a good team built around him with three rookie years to go
  3. I don’t care how much they compete in practice, no way I’d take Sam starting over Baker no matter how they look in camp. Darnold has always been a strong practice guy….well maybe strong is the wrong word. The article questions Corrals development if he’s not number 2 compared to Sam being our primary backup. I would like for Corral to have a true redshirt year where he does not see the field at all and really gets time to grasp the NFL so that he has the best shot at long term success. If Matt was the primary backup and Baker goes down he could be thrown to the wolves and pick up some bad habits. Being that we picked him him in the third round there should be no pressure for him to perform immediately.
  4. Hear me out….I cringe thinking of Sam “Gumby” Darnold being our starter at any point again, but we are already on the hook for his full salary, and he would be a top tier NFL backup if needed for a short period of time. This would allow Corral to have a true redshirt year and develop into a potential future starter, and take things very slow. This would be wonderful for his long term development in my humble opinion. What say ye fellow degenerates?? What is your thoughts on keeping Gumby vs Cutting him (for the sake of discussion this is for cutting - not trading him which btw will not happen) Article Snip: ESPN’s David Newton reports that the Carolina Panthers do not intend to release Sam Darnold despite trading for Baker Mayfield. Carolina suggests there will be a quarterback competition, but all signs point towards Mayfield taking over. There also appears little interest around the league in acquiring Darnold. Will there be an actual training camp competition for the starting job between Mayfield and Darnold? Is it wise that Carolina keeps Darnold around? Despite owing 18 million in guaranteed money, Carolina should release Darnold before training camp to create a more defined vision at the quarterback position and to make sure that rookie quarterback Matt Corral’s development isn’t slowed by failed past decisions. 5. I feel good about our DT replacement and the possibility of Matos and his development, but I believe we are a vet DE away from being solid on the line. If we have one major injury at DE we are down to zero depth.
  6. It is huge but it’s also huge to see Bakers Stats when the game is on the line in the 4th quarter. I’m excited for Baker btw and hope it works out but his 4th quarter stats recently are concerning.
  7. It’s great content. I still have to mess with you on occasion
  8. Both of these turds brought me to my lowest point of interests with the team. Which one was worse at the end of the season that they started…Jimmy “Pickle” Clausen or Sam “Gumby” Darnold? I had to get in a thread before Scott posted another one
  9. Bengals did it….why can’t we do it as well. Let’s fugging go!!!! I’m down to snort some coke and get on this positive train. Its been years…..I’ll be hyped until brought back to reality.
  10. True. Many fans of the Browns love the guy though and no one really blew up about his leadership skills inside the locker room until Odell flipped out. He has been a drama case everywhere he has been so idk. It could be the homer in me now that he’s a Panther now. I want to believe we can see a decent season again, and get us out of the Darnold Gumby multiverse which is almost as bad as the Jimmy Pickle Multiverse. Time will tell if it works out but at least we will have some energy from the QB position.
  11. Say what you want about the man….but one thing you can say with confidence is that he will be light years above Darnold at being an Alpha in the huddle and bringing the energy. That is a highly underrated quality in a QB as we all seen with Cam over the years. I have no idea if Baker will work out and he could suck ass like the last 83 QB’s since Cam, but this is a good start.
  12. Didn’t see this posted anywhere so if it has already, I want to apologize…..to absolutely nobody!! ARTICLE: A Browns’ trade of Baker Mayfield to the Panthers remains a possibility, but a report Wednesday indicates it won’t be a Mayfield-for-Sam Darnold deal. Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports that a Mayfield-for-Darnold swap is “very unlikely” and quotes a source who said he is “confident it’s not happening.” Such a deal makes sense for both sides given the quarterbacks both are under contract for 2022 at the fifth-year option amount of $18.86 million, which is fully guaranteed. Darnold was drafted two spots after Mayfield, at No. 3 overall by the Jets in 2018. The Browns want to — and need to — move on from Mayfield after trading for Deshaun Watson. But, per Cabot, they are comfortable with Jacoby Brissett and Josh Dobbs as their quarterbacks in the event Watson is suspended for part or all of 2022. Brissett has started 37 career games and Dobbs none. Darnold has started 49 career games. Mayfield, though, still could end up as the starter in Carolina. The Panthers want the Browns to pay the lion’s share of Mayfield’s salary to do the deal, which is why Mayfield remains a member of the Browns as the offseason programs end. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/06/15/report-a-baker-mayfield-for-sam-darnold-trade-is-very-unlikely/
  13. Any indication about asking price? Draft picks? Darnold? Both?
  14. Sources indicate a huge announcement is coming in today by 12. I’ve heard rumblings that it could have something to do with an exclusive partnership with Smithfield BBQ sauce now being served in stadium with television rights on our new flagship station.
  15. Would make perfect sense. We have little depth and only one proven starter in Burns currently. This is our biggest need other than QB of course
  16. That would be another episode of Cam reflecting on being in a fugged up situation. Who cares anyway……we have Queen City News as our new flagship station!!!! I’m still on a high from that news yesterday.
  17. The Browns have changed there mind and are now trading Watson to the Panthers
  18. It will be an announcement about switching from Pepsi to Coke products in stadium
  19. Article from The Athletic: As the Panthers head into their third week of organized team activities, it’s been mostly quiet on the Baker Mayfieldfront. But these are the Panthers we’re discussing, so rest assured the quarterback question continues to bubble beneath the surface. The Panthers and Browns remain in a holding pattern on Mayfield — really, more of a game of chicken — with each side waiting to see if the other will blink and come down on its asking price. But with mandatory minicamps quickly approaching across the league, don’t be surprised if Cleveland and Carolina renew the trade talks that stalled during the draft. Acquiring Mayfield before the June 14-16 minicamp would give the quarterback a chance to start learning Ben McAdoo’s offense and to get acquainted with his new teammates, including receiver Robbie Anderson, who in April voiced his disapproval of a Mayfield trade on social media. It also would allow the Browns — already dealing with the fallout of trading for Deshaun Watson — to avoid another quarterback-related distraction if Mayfield reported to minicamp to avoid getting fined. (Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that skipping the three-day minicamp would cost Mayfield about $95,000.) The sticking point in a potential Mayfield-to-Carolina trade has centered on how much each side is willing to pay toward his $18.9 million salary, which became guaranteed when the Browns picked up his fifth-year option last spring. The Panthers already have Sam Darnoldon their books at the same $18.9 million figure after exercising his fifth-year option. Carolina wants Cleveland to pick up a significant portion of Mayfield’s salary, although the amount could fluctuate based on what the Panthers are offering in return. The higher the draft pick that Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer is willing to include in the deal, the more cash the Browns presumably would be willing to throw in to make it happen. One possibility would be sending Darnold to Cleveland in a swap of top-three quarterbacks from the 2018 draft. The Browns look to be set with Jacoby Brissett as Watson’s backup. But if the Panthers add a draft-pick sweetener or otherwise convince Cleveland to take Darnold, the money could be a wash. (Carolina’s $24.8 million in salary-cap space is second only to Cleveland’s $30.99 million, according to the NFLPA database.) Darnold, who turned 25 on Sunday, has been the NFL’s lowest- or second-lowest-rated passer each of the past two seasons. He’s thrown nearly as many interceptions (52) as touchdowns (54) in his four seasons and has a career passer rating of 76.9. The 27-year-old Mayfield has 92 career touchdowns against 56 interceptions, with a career passer rating of 87.8. He led the Browns to an 11-5 regular-season record in 2020, followed by their first playoff victory since 1994. Of course, the above scenario assumes dumping Darnold in favor of Mayfield is the Panthers’ preference. Although Matt Rhule has made it clear he remains open to bringing in another quarterback, others in the organization question how big an upgrade Mayfield would be. It also doesn’t hurt the Panthers’ positioning to have the Browns thinking they’re willing to roll into the season with Darnold and third-round pick Matt Corral as their top QB options. Cleveland also can try to claim leverage. As the number of women accusing Watson of sexual misconduct continues to grow, the Browns could signal that they’re willing to hold on to Mayfield in the event Watson is suspended or goes on the commissioner’s exempt list. But nearly everyone in league circles believes the Mayfield-Cleveland relationship is broken beyond repair, much like the situation was with Watson in Houston. San Francisco veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo also remains available in a trade, but there are concerns within the Panthers organization about the health of Garoppolo’s throwing shoulder after surgery in March. In the meantime, Darnold, Corral and P.J. Walker continue to take the reps in McAdoo’s offense while the Panthers consider whether they want to change quarterbacks for the third time in three seasons under Rhule. And everyone — including Mayfield, who a league source says has been throwing since March after surgery on his non-throwing shoulder — waits for the stalemate to end. But closure could be coming soon, at least if the Panthers (and not Seattle or another team) are going to trade for him. My sense is the Panthers don’t want the quarterback situation — which has been in question essentially since the season ended and they began their pursuit of Watson — to linger over the summer after minicamp wraps.
