  1. Impressive indeed…can’t wait to see who’s coming aboard!
  2. Doesn’t surprise me. We’ve always had defensive minded HC that we’re satisfied with offenses that were run-heavy and “efficient” passing. Can’t win consistently with this philosophy in In today’s NFL. During the Pittsburg game, the announcers stated the Panthers were the third in the league in most 3 and outs. Hopefully, today’s hire will mean an end to our offensive deficiencies.
  3. Defensive analyst/consultant? I could live with that. DC? Might as well have kept Wilks.
  4. We could do better than Gus Bradley but his connection to Reich and possibly Fitterer (Seahawks) gives me reason to believe he’d at least be strongly considered.
  5. Couldn’t agree more with Snith’s tweet but I’d add the landscape of the League was a driving factor in the hiring of Reich. This is why from the outset Tepper and co wanted a coach with offensive background. It pretty much stacked the odds against Wilks getting the job, although he rightfully deserved consideration and was a finalist. Getting one with Reich’s resume and experience was the difference maker.
  6. From what I’ve read, the unexpected retirement of Luck started the downward spiral of retread QBs for Reich in Indy and, as stated earlier, the Colts never seemed interested in developing a future franchise play caller. Based on this and where the team was roster-wise, you could make an argument that Irsay and FO felt they were a veteran QB away from being contenders. They weren’t in a position to really draft one as a middle of the pack team, thus the carousel of Rivers, Wentz and Ryan. Unfortunately these weren’t long term solutions and two of the experiments went terribly wrong. Hoping things will be different this go-round.
  7. To borrow a phrase I learned in Jamaica, “ much respect, Coach Wilks!” You brought this team back from the dead and helped us find our identity again. You gave a reason to watch and cheer for the Panthers again, and for that we are truly grateful. Best wishes for wherever your career takes you sir.
  8. My sentiments exactly. While I feel really bad for Wilks, it was clear from the outset and throughout this process that Tepper was favoring offensive minded coaches. Reich’s resume and experience were the difference. And we really can’t blame him - take a look at the teams advancing in the playoffs. All are guided by former OC and one of them, Nick Sirianni (and his OC Shane Steichen - another candidate for the Panthers HC job), worked under Reich at previous stops. The league is trending toward offense and Tepper understands that. If Reich can put together a great staff, especially on the defensive side of the ball - there’s no reason to expect he won’t have success here. And on the bright side - we can expect more creativity, diverse and innovation on offense. The ultra conservative risk-averse playcalling should be a thing of the past.
  9. I would gladly welcome any semblance of Kyle Shanahan’s offense here in Carolina. It would be a refreshing change from the run, run, long pass/quick 3-and-out offensive playcalling we’ve become accustomed to, though it had been a bit more creative toward season’s end.
  10. Join the club. Mine is a Cowboys’ and Gamecocks’ fan. It’s a house divided sportswise.
  11. The alternate could work also. Neither would surprise me at this stage.
  12. Reich could be for us what Doug Pederson has been for Jacksonville. All we’d need is a young talented QB.
  13. This will be worth watching as well. May be a determining factor if this becomes a requirement for the new HC.
  14. I doubt anyone in the front office would sign off on Wentz coming here. We can certainly do better with whoever we hire.
  15. This as fans we sometimes lose sight of the human element of all this. It’s not as easy as simply pulling up stakes and moving to a new team and location. How will such a move effect his family, if he has one? What if the candidate decides he likes the stability of where he is, rather than the uncertainty of going to a new team with obvious challenges? Is he well connected enough to bring along qualified assistants, or will the new team expect him to retain some current staff members? A lot more involved behind the scenes that requires careful consideration before making the jump.
  16. I still think the decision will come down to Reich or Wilks. Whoever comes up with the best plan to fix the offense will have the edge.
  17. Listening to Kyle Bailey’s show yesterday and heard Steichen is returning to Philly. Didn’t catch the source but everything’s fluid at this point. We’ll know more after this weekend.
  18. Both are examples I point to when considering our next coaching hire. I don’t think there were many outside of the organizations hiring them that took them seriously. No one’s chuckling now!
  19. No one ever heard of Sirianni either. I believe he was a reluctant play caller with the Colts - does anyone even know what his official title was? Zac Taylor was more well known but again did anyone foresee him leading the Bengals to this level of success? Trust the process
  20. Couldn’t help but chuckle at this one. Wilks understands the game. He’s rightfully giving this process time to play out. If not, he doesn’t deserve to be a HC.
