That former second rounder that had a good start with the Jets just got cut by the Lions.

It's why I still think AR was the guy we should've taken because his physical traits and abilities will allow him to win games while he figures out the passing aspect - I take that guy 10 times out of 10 over any other rotation when picking a QB, and I've said that for years, not just in regards to Bryce. But again, I withhold my judgement and hope for the best. I really hope Reich, McCown, and Fitt didn't outsmart themselves with this pick. Hoping for the best, but his limitations are obvious and become even more glaring if the OL plays like ass. He needs everyone around him to play well to excel, while other QBs that were available to us do not.

It's not that. It's that they advertised him, even after seeing him line up as the starter in TC, as being that guy, then suddenly now don't. I'm not questioning Evero. I'm questioning the timing of it and how and why their opinion of him shifted so drastically so quickly - yet, Belichick sees value in him.
-
I still think it had to have been a locker room/off-field issue. Makes no sense personnel wise and Bekichick recognizes how to use talent, especially defensively. He was built for the role he was designated for and the team site and coaching staff hyped him all TC. True, the first depth charts generally don't mean much, but guys don't go from being touted and projected as the starter at an important position to cut before preseason is even over. Something happened...
-
I suspected they may be trying to limit his exposure so they could keep him stashed. It's the only thing I could think of. For some reason, I thiught he had some good buzz around him before he kept getting injured.

Wtf??? Must be an off the field issue. This just makes zero sense.

Grant Gordon of NFL.com says O-line IS a thing in so many words
Proudiddy replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
The even more pressing concern I have about the OL is that a ton of the big hits have come from the left side, where we were under the impression that Ickey and BC were the guys we could depend on and a strength going into the season. The other place the pressure has been coming from mostly was expected from the interior with Corbett being out and whoever ends up playing RG getting acclimated... but man, Ickey has looked fuging horrible, and schematically the only things I could see us doing is running more and getting the ball out much, much quicker, but according to the stats last week, Bryce wasn't even getting a full 3 seconds before getting pressured last week, so there's that. Again, it's preseason, but this poo looks bad. -
The thing that bothers me with what we've done so far is that my impression of Reich's teams in Indy were hard-nosed, mean, aggressive, smart, fundamentally sound teams that struggled with a ton of turnover and the victims of never having a real franchise QB, so they struggled more than they should have. The poo we've put on tape the last two weeks is nothing like that. Supposedly we have our franchise QB in place, even if a rookie, but it's all the other poo going on around it. Everyone keeps bringing up the vanilla scheme and all that, but our opponents are running bullshit schemes too, and they're still whooping our asses. The issue really is we are getting beat in almost every matchup, we are not fundamentally sound, we are not aggressive, we are not smart, we are not hard-nosed... we just look flat, uninspired, and really uninterested. Yes, again, I'm keeping it in perspective that it's preseason, but I don't know that I've ever been more underwhelmed by a preseason showing in our history, including the Rhule years, which is saying something. I anticipate the actual scheme and real playcalling is gonna make a big difference and at the very least keep us competitive, but damn... poo like Ickey looking like complete ass both games, the whole OL looking just as ass, especially the interior... the defense getting gashed, guys getting beat in coverage, guys not tackling, receivers and Young not being on the same page multiple times in 2 weeks, etc. It's just all bad. Just not many things to be encouraged about in what our guys have shown. But, we'll see what happens come the regular season... but, no question, this poo has been beyond disappointing.

I'm not overreacting to our current performance, but your take here is hilariously on point. It's the same fuging story every season. The same fans belittling all of the fans for being "reactionary" and panicking will be writing novels mid-season after being weeks behind the curve, and will suddenly be seeking solidarity and validation from the same guys they trashed. It's the non-surprising, "there's always next season!" crowd, who have been waiting for that next season for 28 years.
-
It's not Corral. We only scored with Bryce bc of the Giants' penalties. Our whole team just looks like ass - preseason or not.
-
That is an insult to Rivera.
-
Not analyzing anything. Scheme and actual calls made to win a game is going to make a huge difference, but the thing that is troubling about what we're seeing is a lot of guys are getting beat 1 on 1 and off effort. We're just getting outplayed... and the "vanilla" poo only goes so far as an excuse, because the other teams aren't calling their plays either but they're still whooping our ass handily.
-
Yikes. We look fuging horrible.

I know Mingo is getting rave reviews, and I hope he turns into an AJ Brown clone, but I was all over the Zay Flowers train going into the draft, and seeing highlights from TC, he looks as ridiculous as I anticipated.

How would you feel if we cut Chuba and signed Hunt?
Proudiddy replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Isn't Hunt a few years older than Chubba? That would be the reason I wouldn't. Hunt still looked great last season, but age is a tricky game when it comes to RBs. -
It's weird he's apparently regressed, especially since the start of camp... because he looked good in preseason last season and in limited snaps during the regular season. But I haven't heard anything but bad about him over the last 2 weeks or so.
-
TBH, I didn't see a lot of him. I think he mightve gotten himself in the dog house because I remember he had a few penalties during practice in the week leading up to the game, and then during the game I didn't see much of him. During the game, I actually only saw Jordan and McCray at RG. I vaguely think I remember a play I saw Mays, but not certain... it looked like the bulk of the snaps was Jordan and McCray. I hope Jensen is the new Norwell, and Zavala is a real wildcard. I feel a lot better going into this week.

You won't find a bigger Cam fan for life than me... it's not meant as disrespect to him. I agree with you. I'm saying he has traits like Cam, and if he can put it together, those traits enable him to make plays on his own without needing others, and there aren't many guys that are capable of that.
-
I understand the sentiment, and I agree, the performance was unacceptable, even accepting it was a preseason game. That being said, I'm not putting much weight into it. He just matched up against a Jets team that has been under Salah and his system for 2 or 3 years now and ate known for their aggressive, top ranked defense. And yes, we have an all-star staff, but they literally just assembled it this offseason. Despite previous connections, it was literally their first game against another team and staff... just as it takes players time to figure out a system and gel, it will be the same process for the coaching staff, especially with a few guys in prominent positions who are there for the first time. So, I'll give some grace, but ngl, that showing was not encouraging at all. But you know what? There is still hope. We have a staff full of professionals. The last 3 years we had ZERO hope because we had a fuging staff full of dumbass, phony college car salesmen. Hold on to hope. I still believe we are playoff bound, but I definitely need to see more this week.

I'm trying to figure out what game yall watched. If you're judging him by that standard and are consistent, then by that standard Bryce was ass too. I don't care who they put behind those OLs Saturday, they had zero fuging time to do anything. Corral looked much more functional than he did last preseason. Did he look great? No. But I think he looked good considering the circumstances. But this poo about wanting to cut a 3rd string QB who we spent a 3rd rounder on last year because he only had .5 secs to make throws because the line and playcalling was complete ass is ridiculous to me. I just don't get the animus... the entire offense looked like ass, but let's cut Corral because we need a sacrificial lamb. Ok. And I'm not caping for him... look at my posts about how he looked last preseason.

NGL though, figured it wasn't worth a thread of its own so I'll just post it here, but I will be keeping a close eye on Richardson. He is who I decided I wanted in the last weeks leading up to the draft, with the reasoning being, if his processing was close to Bryce's, which reportedly it was, he could figure out the accuracy and consistency stuff over time, but his athleticism and playmaker ability would carry him during that time... and in a big way. Even as he was figuring out the passing aspect, he could break games wide open with his running ability. I expect he will. I know he threw a pick but he bounced back and looked really good afterwards. I see a lot of Cam in him. So it was what worried me about Bryce over him... While Bryce is great at his strengths, and I see the Brees' comparisons are very apt (except Bryce is much more mobile), AR can win games even if he can't pass to perfection. AR doesn't and won't have to rely on others to be productive and change games in the Colts' favor. Bryce's game is almost entirely dependent on others to be productive, and as we saw yesterday, the OL sucked and we couldn't get any offense going. Again, I trust Reich and McCown's decision. I have no choice but to. But man, that concern has been there for me since the draft. I'm going to continue to believe and hope for the best... also, this post is not about yesterday, just a lingering concern that has always been there.

Also, didn't see who we started at RG, but I saw McCray in on the second drive. I think when they showed the highlights where Bryce got hit late, it looked like Jordan was the guy who started. Wtf happened to Cade Mays running with the 1s?
