This is a great and honest evaluation. It's also what I was saying yesterday. He fits our zone blocking scheme and could do really well here as he can play to his strengths -

No, but if you're bringing him in to compete for that spot but not strongly then making him the cheapest LT isn't unreasonable especially if he ca play other positions too. I don't pretend to know what's right or wrong, better or worse, I only try to put things into perspectives. -

Perhaps, although since we were a 5-11 team last year I'm really not sure how many of those players we really should bring back. I mean, if we're gonna suck we might as well suck a different way or it could get boring. -

I had noticed that too actually. I have no idea what it means other than I'm thinking there are some very apprehensive new Texans with their heads in their hands. -

Yeah, and OL rarely start rookie season so it makes sense to have people in place to hopefully be replaced by better and have decent OL depth -

*insert sarcasm font here* The Texans really wanted him. It was the deal breaker. Watson is going to be a Panther *insert sarcasm font here* -

And they agree with you probably which is why they are changing lineman, no? -

Yes, and also everyone says how bad our OL was last season but if I remember correctly we finished 18th overall? So we were average even with all the injuries. One that about ZBS is you don't necessarily need the dominant maulers there. A ZBS line works as a Unit and their success isn't based on the individual player's dominance but the success of the Unit working together properly. -

Another thing that I think is important when considering the signings is that beyond their obvious versatility on the line is that we use a ZBS or Zone Blocking Scheme. Most of the NFL doesn't. There are characteristics that coaches look for in ZBS. Flexibility, the agility to move and high football IQ are important in that scheme. Most people know that schemes can effect a QBs performance like with Tannehill but perhaps don't know that it can effect a lineman's performance as well. If any player is being asked to do something that doesn't fit his skill set then the result won't be their best possible. Putting the right players into the right schemes is what makes for great teams. Neither of these guys played under a ZBS system before. Now I'm not saying what these guys will do for us next season or beyond. I don't have a crystal ball. However, both exhibit qualities that could be successful in the scheme that Carolina uses. I believe, and that they signed them so quickly gives it weight, that Carolina thinks they can fit into what they are doing here and offered them a good opportunity to be successful and reach the potential that people believed they had when they were drafted. They are young, cheap, versatile and still have potential upside. They are not homerun signings but not necessarily stupid ones either. -

I was just about to point out that very thing but saw that you already did. Thank you. Seemed obvious to me. -
84? That's pretty smart isn't. I mean 84 out of a 100 is a B. I bet most of y'all even went to High School huh? Cool. I'm with the smart crowd!

Cameron Irving was a Center who can play OG and OT. He's a nice fir theoretically in a zone blocking scheme which is what we use. Strengths: Superb athletic skill set for a center Quick interior lineman Strong; can move blockers at the point of attack Can single-block defensive tackles in pass protection Very fast to the second level Agile Plays with excellent technique Pad level Good balance Snaps the ball with good velocity Can match up on speed rushers Anchors well against bull rushers Effective in double-teams Pulls well Makes impact blocks on the second level to spring running backs Scheme versatile Conditioning Experienced Intelligent Work ethic -

Definitely a solid outside CB over a slot guy. Slots are important but shouldn't cost too much unless they are a TD machine. Would much rather have a good TE. -

Yes I agree with both of you, Any team may just yeah you can move up for next years first. It's possible. Especially a team like Miami that has draft picks like candy. But at some point they have more than they need and might prefer using them to trade up for certain players instead of down and accumulating more candy. Also, I agree on the bullish market maybe not being as bullish as it seems. I just find it hard to believe that teams like ATL or DET are really going to draft a QB now. I also don't see SF wanting a rookie now either nor Denver. They have too much invested with what they have. I'm 50/50 on even the Jets tbh. If I'm the Jets I'm thinking about looking at picks 4-7 for a team that wants Sewell badly, getting an extra pick or 2 and then maybe trading down again if possible to a team like Carolina for their QB or a team a little higher that wants a CB or LB or TE superstar. I could probably still get the 2nd OT, WR or CB plus I have some nice new picks as well. The movement already seen this off season is showing that teams are thinking outside the traditional box and I expect to see this trend continue up to and into the draft. For the record, I openly admit to being a "Homer", but I honestly believe Watson will be traded and that it will be to us as I don't think the Fins or Jets are really interested and that leaves the Bears and we not only can beat them but I think they have their sites more on Wilson even if it's next year. -

Yes, I don't get where people come up with the idea that the 1st 4 picks will be QBs. Unless they believe the Jets, Dolphins and Falcons are drafting QBs or that the Bengals, Eagles or Lions are moving up to draft a QB. People also throw around trading down to QB desperate teams but I don't think they understand the cost of such moves. Let's just take it from the start and say the Dolphins are the first team that wants to trade down and Carolina is the first QB desperate team. To make this deal happen we have to consider the Trade Value. Pick 3 has a TV of 2,200 points. Pick 8 has a TV of 1,400 points. Carolina needs to add 800 tv points to even be considered. (usually teams want more. The Bills had to go about 400 points over to get Allen) So the Panthers would have to give up at least this to move from 8 to 3. pick 8=1,400, pick 39=510, pick 73=225. So our first 3 picks in '21 only comes to 2,135 tv points. We are still a little short. They might accept that but we'd probably have to include a '22 2nd as well as a minimum offer. That's a lot for an unknown. One thing if it's Watson, you know what you're getting. A rookie coming out of College is another story. Every pick after ours loses 50 tv points so those moves get more and more expensive for those teams. The biggest threat to us would be the Broncos at 9 and 49ers at 12. But I doubt they would want to trade up to 3. They would likely try to go for 6 or 7 if they wanted a qb. NE is the next closest team. To trade up to 7 to draft a qb before Carolina, NE would have to have 450 tv points, that would be their first and second in '21 and probably at minimal '22 second and likely another pick as well in '22 or '23. So, the only teams that could afford to move up to 3 for a QB are us, Denver and SF. They already have youngish QBs who are average at least. That's a big move for them. The most likely move would be up to 6 or 7. They could do that and that would likely be the biggest threat to us. NE could also make that move but they would have to really want him and they need a lot of other things there but we have to watch them too. The others would have to trade away the this draft and half the next to make that move and isn't very likely to happen. -

Yeah, I've thought for a while now that if we don't trade forWatson the I think Lance will be the pick. He just seem like the type of player Rhule would like to coach to me. He has the physical characteristics and the coachable trait that Rhule loves to talk about. He's really big on the coaching part -

no one has traded up 4 a qb the last 2 season tho. for whatever that's worth. With the cap problems 60% of the teams have I think most can't lose 3 draft picks this season as they'll need them just to fill roster spots. -

sorry but I see only Jax and NY maybe as WB teams. For anyone to move above us there are only 2 maybe 3 who could afford to do it. SF would be the one to watch but Im not convinced Jets draft qb to be honest. Wilson could be there at 8 or we could maybe trade up to 6 for Wilson if that was our guy -

The Falcons have a lot of roster spots to fill. That can't afford to spend 1 pick on a qb to sit for 2 season. Plus Ryan is only 35 and a top 10 qb. drafting a qb makes no sense.
