Official hey the Panthers are wearing black helmets GameDay Thread!
Jackie Lee replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
A personnel source said there's also a chance the Panthers (2-7) release Mayfield in the coming weeks if Walker bounces back from Sunday's outing -- 3-of-10 passing for 9 yards, two interceptions and a 0.0 passer rating in the first half before being benched for Mayfield -- against Atlanta (4-5). Or even if Walker doesn't bounce back. So while Mayfield will be Walker's backup against Atlanta, there's a chance he will be inactive the following week against the Baltimore Ravens with Darnold elevated to the backup role. -

On turf so it won't even be a cool rain game -
I'm with you but who chose Corral was not clear on the draft confidential video. Pretty sure it was Tepper pushing it, Rhule was on the phone making the trade probably trying to save his job, and Fitt was kinda in the middle of the two looking like he just poo his pants. End of the day Tepper said the time is now, lets do it, so I think the next HC is gonna have to give say they're going to give Corral a shot before Tepper gives them the job

I'll take a Steichen/Minshew or Waldron/Geno package while we get our draft QB situation worked out. Neither guy seems to fit the "leader of men" or "preacher/used car salesman" mold, but if you got the right team captains and can actually coach I think the wins build the culture for you.

Tepper did have to balance the patience dilema, and got him some NFL guys. Rhule just seemed to revert back to his horrible instincts as soon as football started, after spending all offseason convincing our handful of super optimists on here that he had turned the corner with a few cheesy press conferences.

Fitt made some decent FA moves but yeah. It was too murky behind the scenes with Rhule and all the bad trades, bad Robbie extension, Donte contract wasn't great seeing what Rasul and Gilmore signed for, etc..He might stay around if next year is deemed a cleaning the slate kinda year. 2024 is when the cap and draft is wide open for a new HC and GM

Yeah it's hypothetical/situational, but for the relevant past few drafts- 2018-Passed on Lamar for DJ, the narrative was Cam was still healthy, expected to stay the guy but the shoulder and foot injuries messed all that up. 2019-There wasn't a guy, took Brian Burns 2020-Missed out on Herbert, didn't take a chance on Hurts in the 2nd 2021-Passed on Fields because Sam was our "rookie QB"-ultimately the dumbest decision and quite likely because they had to pretend like they knew what they were doing. I at the time would have forgiven that stupid trade if they had just taken the QB when they had the chance, could have saved that 5th year option money as well 2022-There wasn't a guy and couldn't pass up Ickey

Is Burns really worth backing up a Brinks truck?

Brugler: Next year's quarterbacks "not universally loved"
Jackie Lee replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Where's he projected to go? 3rd or 4th round? He's not eligible for the Senior Bowl so kinda curious if he'll stay in college for another year -
Just a heads up

Justin Fields 61 yard rushing touchdown

He's allowed 23 receptions on 31 targets so that's 23 of those 27 tackles. That's basically a 75% completion percentage for QB's against him?

I'm not sure any of the pro tankers have identified their QB preference anyway. Their choices are a guy with Doug Flutie measurements or a throwback pocket passer who's pro comp is Teddy Bridgewater -
Every single player asked about it said they were overwhelmed with McAdoos playbook in OTA's/training camp. I'm not surprised it's still out of sync, more plays than an average playbook doesn't mean they're better plays, just increases the chances of someone getting confused on the field

Time to bust out paper bags on heads at the Thursday Night game?
Jackie Lee replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I dunno if i'd want a paper bag over my head during a rain game but give it a shot. The aftermath of that tropical storm/hurricane is on track to hit right around 4pm Thursday through the next day -

Maybe they'll listen to Baldy but prob not. They've made up their minds to hate a guy that every ex player on Twitter is saying he's officially a franchise guy
