  1. Canes FB: NEW YORK, NY. - The Carolina Hurricanes hope to take a 3-0 series advantage Sunday as they meet the New York Rangers for Game Three in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. When: Sunday May 22, 3:30 p.m. EST Watch: ESPN Listen: 99.9 The Fan, Hurricanes.com/Listen, Hurricanes App PROJECTED LINEUP SERIES RECAPS: Game One: Sebastian Aho ties the game with 2:23 to go in regulation, Ian Cole wins it just 3:12 into the extra frame for Carolina. Game Two: Antti Raanta records a 21-save shutout as the Canes take a 2-0 win and series lead. THE QUICK HITS: Keeping It Low Key: Through two games the series has just amassed five goals, four of them belonging to Carolina. Through the first two periods of Game One the big story was that the Rangers were prohibiting the Canes from getting anything going offensively, however a third period equalizer and then an overtime winner quickly changed the outcome. In Game Two New York was held completely off the score sheet, totaling just four high-danger chances at five-on-five according to NaturalStatTrick.com. With New York having last change today and the ability to potentially get some of their top dogs away from Jordan Staal's line, will things open up? Rants Is Streaking: The only goal to have gotten by Antti Raanta through the two games came just 7:07 into the first period of Game One. In the 116:06 since, he's been perfect. Of all goalies on still active teams in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Raanta's .939 save percentage trails only Jordan Binnington of St. Louis. The Importance Of Special Teams: After both teams took just one penalty each in Game One, special teams became much more of a factor on Friday night. New York had four power play opportunities in the second contest of the series, while Carolina had three - each in moments to alter the game. Neither converted there and ironically enough the only non-empty net goal of the contest was a shorthanded tally by Brendan Smith. Will either power play be able to convert this afternoon? Giving Up The Body: A big reason the Canes were able to keep the puck out of their net on Friday was because of their defensive unit's shot blocking. The team finished with 24 blocks and just 21 shots making their way onto Raanta. Brett Pesce led the way with his five blocks. Third Pair Heroes: Third defensive pair partners Ian Cole and Brendan Smith have recorded the game-winning goals for Carolina thus far this series. Both only had one game-winning goal each during the regular season. Cole's Game One winner in overtime was just his second career postseason goal in his 104th appearance. For Smith, it was the first shorthanded goal by a Canes defenseman in the playoffs since the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals. On The Other Side: Goaltender Igor Shesterkin was strong once again for New York in Game Two, however suffered the loss due to no goal support. He stopped 20 out of 21, including all five he faced while his team was shorthanded. On the other hand, both offensive superstars Artemi Panerin and Chris Kreider were held without a shot on goal in the contest. ESPN Broadcast: Sean McDonough, Ray Ferraro and Emily Kaplan will be the broadcast talent for tonight's ESPN telecast. They will have the first four games of the series. ADDITIONAL NOTES: What Are We Wearing?: The Canes will be wearing white today. More Milestones: Sebastian Aho is one assist shy of passing Ron Francis for the most assists in franchise playoff history. He is also one point shy of passing Eric Staal for the most in franchise history. NEW YORK, NY. - The Carolina Hurricanes will keep things routine for Sunday's Game Three, sticking with the same lineup that's led them to success in the first two games of the series. Antti Raanta will once again hold down the fort in net after registering his first career Stanley Cup Playoffs shutout Friday. The netminder has stopped 48 out of 49 shots faced thus far this series. Carolina's projected lineup for today's 3:30 p.m. puck drop is: Forwards: Teravainen - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - Trocheck - Necas Niederreiter - Staal - Fast Domi - Kotkaniemi - Lorentz Defensemen: Slavin - DeAngelo Skjei - Pesce Smith - Cole Starting Goalie: Raanta Injuries: Frederik Andersen Jordan Martinook Scratches: Ethan Bear Derek Stepan
  2. Feel like NY is going to be desperate and juggle the lines. That can lead to more goals for us.
  3. Here we go folks! It’s Gameday! 3:30 puck drop! Canes lead 2-0 in the series after a 2-0 win where we got goals from Smith and Aho. Aho has become the Ranger killer these past few years. Not my words, apparently it’s going around all over the Rangers message boards. Already with 2 goals in this series. Raanta staying red hot with his first shutout making a case to be the starting netminder when Freddie is back. Wake up folks….Let’s fuging goooo!
  4. Because they have back to back games today and tmrw
  5. Outside of the first 2 periods game 1, the canes have been the better team. Without IGOR, the canes would have had 4-5 goals a game so far.
  6. https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/hurricane-ii.2885753/ rangers fans are in full meltdown mode.
  7. I don’t care. It’s Raanta’s net until otherwise. These playoffs have his name all over if. Now with a playoff shutout. Raants’ net. Role with him. It is now becoming very special.
  8. Bump….. dude is playing all world. He is our 1
  9. As that period went on it looked more and more like the 3rd from Wednesday. We simply just wear teams down. I like us to get 1 early to start the 2nd.
  10. Thank you for catching that! I was hoping someone would say something
  11. From Canes FB RALEIGH, NC. - The Carolina Hurricanes look to continue their perfect postseason on home ice Friday, aiming to take a 2-0 series lead over the New York Rangers. When: Friday, May 20, 8 p.m. EST Watch: ESPN Listen: 99.9 The Fan, Hurricanes.com/Listen, Hurricanes App SERIES RECAPS: Game One: Sebastian Aho ties the game with 2:23 to go in regulation, Ian Cole wins it just 3:12 into the extra frame for Carolina. THE QUICK HITS: Special Start Time: Please be aware of tonight's special 8 p.m. EST puck drop. Ready To Go On Time: Carolina struggled through the first 40 minutes of Wednesday's Game One, with players and coaches citing it as a bit of them coming out of the gate flat and a bit of New York doing strong things. Can the Canes turn the table for Game Two? They are 3-0 this postseason when leading after the first. Runnin' With Rants: After an early turnover led to an odd-man rush that New York capitalized on, Antti Raanta shut the door for the remaining 56:05 (including overtime). The veteran netminder finished with 27 saves on 28 shots, earning his fourth win of the playoffs in which he has allowed two goals or fewer. Ian Cole, Baby: Ian Cole had just two goals during the regular season and he added his third of the season in overtime Wednesday. It was his 104th posteason game and just his second career goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as well. Keeping It Clean: Special teams played a big part in almost every contest during the Canes seven-game opening round win against Boston. Wednesday night there was just two penalties, both coming just 27 seconds apart during the first period. This is especially of note considering the Rangers power play finished in the top five during the regular season and has been one of the most successful thus far in the playoffs as well. However, the Carolina penalty kill finished atop the league after 82 games, too. Staal's Master Class: Jordan Staal's line was responsible for defening the Rangers top line of Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider and Frank Vatrano Wednesday night and it is expected that will once again be the case this evening. The trio finished as the three forwards with the most ice time for New York in the contest, but managed only six shots on goal in just under 20 minutes of play. On The Other Side: Goaltender Igor Shesterkin was strong once again for New York to start the series. Of the two goals that beat him, one came on a solo effort by Sebastian Aho and the other deflected off of his defenseman's stick and in. His night concluded with 24 stops on 26 shots, in total. ESPN Broadcast: Sean McDonough, Ray Ferraro and Emily Kaplan will be the broadcast talent for tonight's ESPN telecast. They will have the first four games of the series. Arrive Early!: Please be aware starting on Friday, the "Got to Be NC festival" is going on at the fairgrounds and traffic will be very heavy in the area during ingress. Allow yourself a few extra minutes. ADDITIONAL NOTES: What Are We Wearing?: The Canes will be wearing black for every home game in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. More Milestones: Sebastian Aho is one goal shy of passing Kevin Dineen to move into a tie for the second-most goals in franchise playoff history. He is also two assists shy of passing Ron Francis for the most assists in franchise playoff history.
  12. 100% I’m on vacation but I’ll get them once they are released. If someone beats me to it I’m good with it.
  13. Wow. I fell asleep and just watched the highlights. Blues played well. Wasn’t it Wang Gretzky at the start of the playoffs that predicted a Stanley Cup between the canes and blues….
  14. Game 2 folks! Canes took a little nap the first 2 periods in game 1 then woke up in the 3rd with a goal from Aho. Could have been more from all the crossbars hit. Cole with dagger in OT helped us go up 1-0 Who is ready??? Let’s fuging go!
