I would agree.. we wont be in a good spot to draft a guy next year. Trevor, Mac, Pickett, Murray... all guys that are on the table IMO

I dont mind him being positive.. What bothers me is his action statement without action.. His mantra was to be like Pete Carrol. Bring in competition and let the best man play. DC showed that he cannot do this.. look at Ricco and Hubbard. One was clearly playing better and yet he favored feelings over performance. You can be a 'positive minded' coach and yet have high expectations.

Yeah.. its amazing how people get all worked up about contracts here.. like its "the next man up" in terms of mega contracts.. teams have already proven that its not hard to work around big contracts. I often come here thinking that this is the place for good football talk but often realize that most people that post here know little to nothing about how football and the operations of football actually work. QB 2026 (For the Young Haters)
CanadianCat replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think there will be some vets become available this offseason that I would consider bringing in to compete. Mac Jones Kyler Murray Kenny Pickett Tua Mariota We are not drafting a QB in the first 2 rounds.. we also have BY somewhat cheap still.. so our BEST option is to bring in people and have them fight it out in a true competition.. -
Here’s a quick look at recent NFL compensatory picks that were tied (at least in part) to teams losing a running back in free agency: 2019 NFL Draft (for 2018 FA): • Patriots — Round 6 (for Dion Lewis leaving for the Titans). Over the Cap 2022 NFL Draft (for 2021 FA): • Packers — Round 7 (for Jamaal Williams leaving for the Lions). SI+1 2023 NFL Draft (for 2022 FA): • Cardinals — Round 6 (for Chase Edmonds leaving for the Dolphins). Over the Cap+2Arizona Cardinals+2 2024 NFL Draft (for 2023 FA): • No RB departures ended up producing a listed comp pick in the NFL’s 2024 release/evaluations. Over the Cap+1 2025 NFL Draft (for 2024 FA): • Cowboys — projected/awarded comp picks in the 2025 cycle included one attributable in part to Tony Pollard’s departure (commonly projected as a Round 6 value).

I’m gonna say it… I’m proud of Bryce.

I remember when we had this same conversation with Baker Mayfield. -

We finally fixed our o-line. Lets not try to get cute. Good teams play their players.

Honestly I feel like we should keep BY regardless if we draft a QB #1 next year. I'm tired of us throwing out QBs just to see them get good after they leave.

Amazing work. Really!

No. IR'ed till 2026

I just hope he can come back... man we need his abilities on this offense.
-
I really like our rookie class this year..
-
Just an appreciation thread.. Dude is covering so well you hardly see him on the TV copy.. they just dont want to throw his way. Only 6 receptions allowed all year.. plus one INT. One of the best in the game.

Been some discussion that if BY doesnt play well we move on from him. But if we dont draft a QB who is that vet that we bring in? Not a lot of great options but would Tua or Mac Jones be on the short list of failed vets to bring in to our "QB fixer" Head Coach?

I mean.. statistically is harder to go 0-3 than 1-2.. so... LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thats fair.

Yeah, and... NFL stands for NOT FOR LONG and that applies to coaches and GM's. If your a coach that has a bad team and is on the hot seat, you are not going to say that you are going to build the roster and NEXT year draft the QB (unless you are the Steelers) You draft the QB this year and that likely buys you an extra year before getting fired. The NFL is a instant gratification sport. Some teams (very few) take the long term, approach but even that doesnt always work. Ultimately its down to the player. We had a crap team and drafted Newton and we were instantly competitive. We drafted Young (whom I still support) and it seems we need to built a team around him. Frank did have a plan. Hell we had the most expensive coaching roster in the NFL. Everyone was singing our praises about the supports we put in place. Yet on game day there is only one person behind center.
