XL makes a list of sophomore breakout candidates
Gapanthersfan replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Horn and Hunter have that ‘it’ feel to me. Either Skyrizzi or Rimvoq. 100%. -
For the ones who are still extremely doubtful, what exactly will Bryce need to accomplish statistically speaking before y’all will say he’s a really good, franchise QB? Or is it subjective, or both? I want yards, TDs, INT #, comp percentage, etc. what exactly does he have to do this year before you are swayed? What will it take, # wise before you believe?

XL makes a list of sophomore breakout candidates
Gapanthersfan replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
XL easily has the worst hands in the WR room, and I hope he realizes that. Coker. I’m telling you, Coker has XL in his sights this season. He’s going to be gunning for the WR2 spot. DAWG. drops nothing. great routes and technique and can throw a heck of a pass. Panthers have no intention of sitting XL and for now he’s the default #2, but he better watch his back. I just rewatched the Philly game. XL had 3, yes 3, drops on the panthers drive to take the lead in the 4th. Good passes. 3 drops. This team is committed to competing this year and repeat performances I’m sure will not be tolerated. -
And this is how the proverbial ‘window’ is created. You go 2 CONSECUTIVE drafts where you have to hit on your first 2 picks, but you also strike gold on a few later round guys as well. Over the course of a couple years, you’ve loaded the team up with 5+ studs (on rookie contracts) who raise the level of play of everyone around them. If there is a franchise QB in place already, a legacy is now possible. The TIMING of hitting on the right kind of talent is crucial. Hitting on a stud here and there every few years actually HURTS the team. Just by their high level of play, the team may win 2+ games they had no business winning, and really screw up draft position. Now the team is stuck in draft purgatory, constantly missing out on a top 5 pick. This team is close to having the must have spots filled. QB (controversial), LT (controversial), WR, center (TBD), edge, DT and corner. These are the spots the real contenders are deep at. Draft teachable, high motor, healthy 5 star performers from top 15 schools who show up to play every Saturday and play like they actually love the game. Just imagine the boost that hitting on 2 stud edge guys AND an LT over the course of 2 years. Stop this dumbass wasted 2nd round pick from eastern Idaho state tweener project safety who had 1 good year after coming back from a season ending knee injury, but he impressed at the combine…. And this is exactly what this draft was.

IMHO, our draft resembled that of one of the perennial contenders. High ceiling low floor gamers from big schools. Dan and Dave drafted gamers, not test scores. Test scores don’t measure heart, drive and the ‘it’ factor… arguably THE most important characteristic in any sport. The tape doesn’t lie. Game strength and game speed. Important. Shorts and t shirt? Meh. So refreshingly different. What positions impact the scoreboard the most? QB, WR, edge, RB. What did they get? First 4 picks: WR, edge, edge, RB. An actual legit #1 who has the potential to put 6 on the scoreboard at any moment. Big. fast. Not a body catcher. A legit blue chip player. We can have nice things? Since when? Heresy! All gamers who squared off against first and second rounders week in and week out. Thank you Dan and Dave. I’m feeling the culture vibes already.

I am beyond impressed thus far. Dan has shown an eye for talent, but this draft has been my favorite to date. Big guys from big schools who show up on game day with big plays against other big schools. Consistently. No project tweeners from schools nobody’s heard of. Just dudes. Gamers. Combine numbers and metrics took a back seat to film. Love it.

I’m expecting a breakout season from Ja'tavion Sanders
Gapanthersfan replied to Car123's topic in Carolina Panthers
Big part of what he does is being able to get that head around quickly at the last minute to make a catch. I can’t imagine how bad that must of hurt his neck. I hope all is good with him. -
How would you feel if Bryce did this in 2025
Gapanthersfan replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
1. Very doable. The missing angle on this is not entirely Bryce. The receivers since XL… the focus? Good hands with a good hands. Big radius. Bryce came on to throwing very catchable and well placed balls. Tmac and Our RBs have some serious yac ability. If XL keeps up with the big drops especially on 3rd down… he better watch out. 2. There are going to be a ton of defensive breakdowns. 4 wr sets with dudes who catch everything? I wouldn’t be surprised to see it closer to 400/6 3. I guess? I don’t know how this is calculated. His int numbers will get higher once more film is available on him. 4. I’m calling 10 wins on a homer take. Hey, why not. The knockers need to realize the panthers have never assembled an offense like this so assigning typical I don’t like x QB expectations may need augmentation. -
The Panthers upgraded the offensive talent so that the PANTHERS could win football games. The offense now a ton of talent and DEPTH. Ask any coach/GM if they could have a dominating offense or defense which would they choose? Of the 2, it’s offense all day. Eagles don’t sniff the SB without Barkley. Home run hitter. 3 and out insurance policy. Defense stays fresh. It’s not the other way around. Far more games are won converting on thirds than stops on third. Dominating defenses are there to seal the deal. 2003 went from SB to suck from losing their WR1. 2005 was an almost. 2015 went from dominating to never again. Never a back to back winning season. Revolving door coaches. No true offensive depth and talent, EVER. Now that the offense looks loaded, the same fans who pounded the table for #1 to get some DUDES again remind everyone how misused and cheated he was… well he was and everyone knows it. The coaching was bad. System. Talent…. Bad, except for a few players. Bad. Could he have developed in to a more complete player with better everything. Yes…. But good lord get over it. This is not righting the wrongs of the past because that is not possible. This is trying to win games in the NFL, the way everyone else is doing it. Will BY throw for more yards and TDs this year than Cam did in 2015. Very likely. But so what. I hope he does. I hope all of Cam and Jakes records are obliterated one day because it will likely mean the Panthers are winning more football games. To feel otherwise is obtuse. Defense was not and is not being ignored. What Dan and Dave have accomplished in 2 off seasons with the offense is nothing short of a miracle. They obviously know what a grown ass football player looks like. What logical reason is there that indicates they can’t/won’t do the same on defense.
-
This should be fun: I hope Bryce smokes every record Cam, and every other NFL QB ever had. Do I think it will happen? Hell, I don’t know, but I hope it does. All PANTHERS fans should feel this way. I always want the next man up to be better than the past. I want someone to overtake SS89. Luke. Peppers… but it feels weird admitting it, because, well, it just does. Why does it matter? Because I want a Panthers dynasty. I want to see a decade of dominance. I like Cam, I really do, but that era is long gone. His most successful year was a decade ago. Nobody compares any of our new receivers to 89. Linebackers to 59. Corners to Gamble. RBs to Stephen Davis. TE to 88. Why does the comparecam to Young go so bad. I’m

Are the Panthers still coddling Bryce?
Gapanthersfan replied to Jackson113.2's topic in Carolina Panthers
I honestly think he will continue where he left off but my biggest concern is still physics. He’s a small guy in a big man game. His evasiveness has greatly improved and he’s popped up from every big hit like it’s nothing thus far, but the moment will come where he doesn’t just pop up. It has and will happen to ALL QBs in their pro career. If he bulked up to a true 200 lbs, I’d feel much more comfortable. -
Are the Panthers still coddling Bryce?
Gapanthersfan replied to Jackson113.2's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think that’s very fair and I sincerely hope it does. I can’t believe I have turned in to a BY defender. -

Gapanthersfan replied to Jackson113.2's topic in Carolina Panthers
Objectively, what sort of stats does Bryce need to put up in passing yards/TDs/TOs for the ones that are still on the fence to come around? Yes, it’s a very loaded question. -
I think we came away from this draft with at least 3 players that would actually be starters on other NFL teams. If so, that’s monumental for this franchise, historically speaking. There was no reaching. No projects. No significant injury history. No small school small conference tweener. Analytics took a back seat to game tape. Big dog schools in big dog conferences. Dan clearly went for football players who showed up on film. It’s almost like he didn’t care how the combine went. Time will tell, but I give it an A. It was a team building, infuse the team with some actual NFL talent and attitude type draft.

If Bryce doesn’t produce, we moving on?
Gapanthersfan replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’ve come around to being a Bryce defender. Really big step. Not many players dig deep and make the post benching turnaround he did. 40 burger in ATL. XL dropped a DIME to possibly beat the SB champs. Took KC to the wire. Not like the defense did him any favors. So he’s got moxie and dropped a lot of dimes to finish the season out. Continues? I think so. And if he doesn’t… Haven’t y’all learned there’s always worse? We’re good at worse. Really good at it. It’s all we’ve seen since Cam. This team is finally starting to build something. Stockpiling promising talent and it may take a bit of time. Building team culture through winning some damn games is huge. Most building teams go .500 the year before they turn in to serious contenders the following year. Don’t expect more than that this year although it’d be nice to do better. Josh Allens and Mahomes don’t exactly grow on trees. -

Please let him keep #88 just so Greg can dish a little more shade next game of ours he does. JK Greg, I still love ya. -
Very pleased. Nothing cute. High floor guys who are football players. You can see that these are kind of moves from someone who understands football in the NFL. Not everyone likes the picks, but this team is headed in the right direction. It’s been a LONG time since we have seen that.
-
This is one of the most conservative drafts I may have ever seen out of this team and I love it. All high floor guys who will likely be starters/2nd string before the season is over. Gloriously boring after the first 2 rounds. Grown folks who do their damn job. Love it.

Round 4 - Panthers draft Trevor Etienne RB UGA

And yet another pick that isn’t a complete head scratcher. I love this draft. High floor guys. Chance of bust is lowest I’ve seen since, ever? -

The fresh prince of mint st? Ok, I’ll go now. -
I think he’ll go when the price is low enough. It’ll be a flier. “Hey Deion, we’ll take a shot on your kid. If you pull your ish, we’ll just cut him.” Can’t afford to do that with the first 3 picks, but after that I could see a team give it a go. I think he’ll go in the late 4th.
