I don’t think it has a lot to do with him, really. Possibly insurance but he is a different type of back from what we already had. Not a high volume guy, more of a specialist. At least that is how I see him.

We have been doing that since Foreman. Since CMC has been gone. Chuba, I know. I think we could have a stalwart under a multi year for continuity and fill in around him. Hoping for more from Chuba this year though.

We badly need a role player that can pound the rock when we need a yard or two. And be an outlet receiver. Even if Brooks comes back we don’t have that short yardage guy.

I think they are closer to each other than in quite some time. The obvious upgrade needed on offense is get Qb play that doesn’t rank in the mid 20s. Granted WR and TE and probably C could be upgraded but a better QB might make what we already have, better. Even XL looked better with just Dalton. RB too, but we might have something there if Brooks can play. Defense we need some help for DB up front and another ILB and two or three more pieces. S, edge, cb.

I don’t know if he is the right one but he is exactly the type I think we should add. Short yardage guy that can catch. He doesn’t seem to be the most talented guy that ever suited up….

We might want to find someone to cover Sadiq when TB takes him.

I am only for it if we have extra picks to pay for it. We could stand to get up and get an actual 1st round talent but not at the expense of a third round pick this year. What I have been looking at is trading back in the 1st to pick up an extra 2nd or something. PS I think there are two or three accepted Trade Value charts. One was Jimmy Johnson’s. Most sites use that one I think.

https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp 19 is valued at 875. 16 @ 1000 Our higher 5th round pick is @ 28.2 It would take our 3rd to really do anything with. Maybe the 4th plus a 5th. (Not really though, it only gets us to 17 ahead of Minnesota).

I didn’t even need numbers to know, but that is why I have been lobbying for a bruiser RB for two years. We need a short yardage bull. For me, what would help the offense more than a TE is that, and if can get one like Tolbert that can be a target within 5 yards either side of the LOS it would be a lot more useful. And if we can’t get a big boy that catches we still need a bull, and a pass catcher at RB.

And the 4th down attempts where he wasn’t used. Jets led the league with 41 4th down attempts, we had 40.

What other starting LOTs were out there? It kind of is what it is we did what we had to do. It really worked out as well as we could have hoped for.

Okay, so we have one 7th round badass. It happens, just not all that often. And, right there with you on the tackle pipeline.

I am using Kelce more as an example of what people think you get with a 1st round TE. 3 f the top 4 yardage guys of all time are 1st rounders. I think. But realize these would be the guys with super long careers, and/or top QBs throwing to them. We don’t have a top QB. And there have been Plenty of first round disappointments too. More of them than the all time leaders for sure. We were treating Bryce as the ultimate ‘don’t fug it up’ game manager in order to get a few of those 8 wins. And to stay close in some losses. 1st round picks, starting in 2023 that have been used on a WR or on the QB? 2023 1 (qb) 2024 2 (1 & 32) (qb, wr) 2025 1 (wr) When does it stop?

I just a couple of posts back corrected a guy saying that. You missed that? We gave the Bears a 3rd round draft pick for Olsen. He was not a FA. Why do so many people think he was?

It will be interesting to see how Willis operates. Being as we supposedly went through it with Bryce. Who got a total free pass despite looking horrible.

There are a couple of tells here. The big one is Green Bay didn’t want to pay his 2nd contract. Another is he sat there for a week almost, and we got him for half or even less than half of a projected yearly rate. In this day and age how many 7th round picks become top left tackles? We were in such a bad spot that this was our best option and we just need to hope they can work around his shortcomings.

Great QB play, yes. I am guilty of thinking we don’t have it so why bother with TE. I just get negative on things in general over it. But TE, and do they make the difference? I will say this, I forget what year it was, but KC was in the playoffs and people were playing them tight and when it came down to it they could not cover Kelce. No answer for him. So they can make a big difference. FWIW Kelce was a third round pick. I suspect you will find many famous successful TEs who were not 1st rounders. I am against using the 1st on Sadiq this year. But would welcome taking another shot if we can find a good bet later on.

Saw Darryl Dawkins play in the old Boston Garden with Philly and Dr J vs Larry Bird in his rookie year. Playoffs game. He was a physical specimen. Massive.

Yeah, I don’t know. Tepper was behind the Bryce selection. Behind firings and hiring over his lack of development. He doesn’t have to literally tell them their hands are tied for them to know this. It is in the air constantly. The Canales Bryce play calling was even portrayed by more than one person as Canales failing Bryce, instead of Bryce being responsible for his own performance (except when he does well, then it is all him). Now they have an extra coach in, to help the new OC get results from this QB. The atmosphere is not welcoming to prototypical young QBs that have talent. You get Jake Plummer types or old vets. I think we are stuck.

You want to use #19 to find out if we don’t target them because they suck or because we don’t embrace an expanded pass catching role due to philosophy? I don’t.
