Who is playing QB for the Panthers in this movie, where we beat Atlanta?

To me, that guy is every bit the pro quarterback Bryce is, with a better NFL physique, and a better arm. If I totaled up the value of the picks we used for Young, which I haven’t, and compare that to whatever the 5th round pick that secured Rattler… sheesh. And we could have all that value playing other positions. ILB cough cough. Just looking at the 1st and the 2nd from 2023, not the next year number 1 or the next year’s 2nd, and whatever value DJ Moore could be assigned… One chart has #1 at 3000, number 59 at 310. Pick 150? 31 Edit: One way to see it is, for just the first two picks we gave up we could spend a pick in the 5th round for 100 Years.

I think I said at the time that I had never seen such bad quarterbacking as Mayfield’s opening quarter, half, however long it was before he sort of regrouped. Then we got Bryce.

Boy you sure set me straight. More years of Bryce on a rookie contract is the solution to not having Mahomes or Allen? I could have improved the team simply by drafting a Spencer Rattler in the 5th round last year and dealt with his rookie contract for millions less and gotten better quarterbacking. That is the truth, sad as it is.

I was gonna say they did not give those others anywhere near the investment around them. Nor the long leash. Think about what each of them could do with the amount of investment in their protection and weapons.

I said 6 last year. Gave into optimism. Ask me in two weeks but today I would say 2 maybe. Based on performance in the first two. I think they will get better and maybe make 5 or 6.

I think Bryce needed a QB shouter not a whisperer. Louder and more urgent. Like a drill Sgt.

Wow. I still can’t pick the Panthers with 2 starters down on the OL and the way they have played. The offense is poo pretty much. Whether it stinks a lot or a little it is still going to stink. I say this with the understanding that they could surprise.

Agree. There may be one or two times where he hit someone in stride or put it out there for a WR to go get it but I struggle to recall them.

I have seen him do 45 yards I think. Not saying he can’t do more, that’s just what I remember seeing. I won’t need Canales’ input here. I never heard that story but Reich playing Bryce when he thought he hurt his shoulder does not make real good sense to me. I mean, he is okay to throw everything else and take hits but not to air one out? It isn’t a good play with him anyway. He’d drop 15 yards and have to do that run up to launch it and would probably get smacked by a defender.

So if no more designated thrower I guess the Hail Mary from outside of a certain YL just won’t be in the playbook. Of course it would piss Tepper off lol.

I did not watch the game just the breakdowns. I haven’t watched any defensive stuff of us. Obviously did not know that. But no designated Hail Mary thrower, Bryce remains alone at the ‘top’.

I think that’s a pretty good rule of thumb. I would struggle to identify any counters, though I feel there are some lurking out there. People could argue for Flacco, Dilfer, guys who ran the gauntlet and didn’t get exposed. I bet the list of guys that did (get exposed) is pretty large.

okay I buried the lead with this at the end but it needs to be up front, then we have the rebuttal I started out with. A designated Hail Mary QB, and designated QB sneaker… that is some unheard of stuff. I would be willing to bet a large sum (relatively) that only one player in the history of the league has required those accommodations. Cool. I think my point is he did not ruin Luck, Luck vouched for him by hiring him at Stanford. And he did not negatively impact Young. The NFL negatively impacted him because he doesn’t have an NFL game. It was just… Bryce, meet reality. This is the NFL not Alabama. He is still trying to get his game up to snuff and we are in year three. Also the resources used on him after he got to the NFL? We had a bottom 5 worst defense in history basically (17 game stats vs the old 16 game stats make it look worse), because he needed so much help. .

On the subject of Reich and him being no good as a coach, because he wouldn’t change everything he did to accommodate Young. He wanted to sit Young. He knew what Young was. But to the point, was Andrew Luck a good QB under Reich in Indy? Most people don’t hesitate to say yes. Well, Luck thought enough of his coaching to bring him to Stanford. There is a bona fide NFL QB that seems to dispute the painting of Reich as a incompetent and the reason for Young’s shortcomings. Yes he got fired. It appears as if Tepper and Fitterer forced a QB he did not want on him and poisoned the well right from the start. I don’t blame Reich one bit for being pissed either. And I wasn’t a Reich guy I wanted Wilks. I accepted the Reich hire but never lobbied for him. Just saying he is being dogged here unfairly.

Rattler; a 5th round pick busting is no sweat. Hell I wanted that guy because he is able to play in the league and the investment was nothing. He would be a better QB for us right now too. And will make a great backup.

You absolutely can have hope. You can’t convert people though; making advocacy posts are kind of … not reading the room. I had a small hope that he would be able to at least manage some games and that they could make it work in some kind of no fun to watch fashion. But honestly I had 100% determined he was not NFL starter material, and I had conviction. So to root for him to marginally succeed goes against the best interest of the Panthers long term, according to my beliefs. I wanted him gone the minute he got here if I am honest.It was up to him to prove otherwise. He has rarely shown me anything to think I was wrong on his ceiling. He did show me some courage last year, standing in the pocket and stepping into his throw in the face of pressure - but that has gone somewhere. He made some nice throws last year in places too, but they invested in him on the level of the Atlanta game should be his norm. Good luck seeing that again on Sunday. Still, he did it once, so technically it could happen again.

Skins really pulled a good one taking Cousins in the RGIII draft.

Smitty works for David Tepper and has a cake job. He is in good with the team. He isn’t going to bite the hand that pays his divorce lawyers. Probably my favorite Panther, a relentless competitor. Luke had that same drive just without the antisocial streak. But Smitty on Sundays? Not that many that were better.

Your use of stats to advocate for Bryce being better than he really is, is why I don’t really take some of the stats arguments seriously. I can see what he is. And I have not watched the games this year but have scoped some post analysis, but I watched every snap for the first two years, some twice. He doesn’t look like some different guy in year 3. He is the same guy he was, and further - pretty much the same as he was in college. Unfortunately. I am getting a pretty big whiff of Stan here. Here is how I see your future: one day you will finally realize he is a failure at professional football. When that happens, you won’t be making boast posts about how good he was in year two anymore, you will be posting about how the Panthers ruined him his first season. With a straight face.

I thought about that the other day and came to the conclusion that Reich could have done that partly to poke Tepper. Lol I can hear him cussing now. Frank’s like, yes please, fire me.

Development. You really think he looks different than two calendar years ago? I just don’t. Icing on the cake is he was supposed to be developed and ready to start, and win, while making average WRs better. Point guard. Elite processor. Ring a bell? Everyone has had to forget about that and just hope he can look average. 95% of his time on the field has been a fail, maybe 90%. He has caught lightning in a bottle one game, and maybe a half in a couple of others. Or a drive. That’s about the size of it.
