Then the only thing we disagree with is the likelihood of his success. History says it's low. Why pointing that out triggers you so much betrays your actual take. You always try to avoid going out on a limb and actually stating an opinion while making your opinion very obvious with the posts that trigger you. That's the only thing that bothers me about your posting style. Just state your opinion. It's fine if you're wrong but don't get all triggered and argumentative while acting like you don't have an opinion but oddly enough only getting triggered and argumentative about a very small subset of opinions. Just come with it. It's okay.

No, I'm not. It's a fact that Darnold was a bust in NY. It's likely he won't be successful here. That's based on historical trends. Again, things aren't black and white like you always try to force on everyone else while trying to live in gray areas with your own takes.
-
I'm just asking that if you're going to say something as if it's based on reality to be ready to back it up. Don't say crap like there are "a lot" of guys coming from this type of situation that have become successful starting QBs. There aren't. We're betting on him becoming one of the few. We'll see if that's a smart bet, but good grief at the homers who are acting like successful turnarounds happen all the time and that we've got this slam dunk at QB when that's faaaaaar from the truth.

I figure it was just to see if anyone would be willing to offer us something stupid. As soon as we drafted Marshall that was basically the writing on the wall for Anderson in Carolina long-term. I'm sure we're very willing to let him play out his contract then let him walk and take the comp pick next year.

Name another guy who has played as poorly as Darnold through three years who got bounced from his original team and went onto become a successful starting QB. I don't think you're going to find "a lot". People keep clinging to Tannehill while ignoring that he was FAR better in Miami than Darnold ever was in NY.

How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?
LinvilleGorge replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, all these people acting like he has the weight of the world off his shoulders getting out of NY aren't being realistic. There's only 32 starting NFL QB jobs available. He just got bounced from one and there wasn't exactly a bidding war for his services. This is likely his last shot to walk into a building as the presumed starter. -

Yep, if he turns Darnold around he's going to be a VERY hot interview on the HC carousel next year. -

The Jets flat out sucked. We'll find out how much of it was on Darnold this season when he takes the field for us surrounded by better weapons with a better OC calling the shots.- 382 replies

By this metric, CMC is a bust. It's a terrible metric.
-
Yes, he's a bust. He played terribly. They moved on because he played terribly and they thought Zach Wilson was a better option for them moving forward. Baker Mayfield has had four head coaches in three seasons but the Browns didn't move past him because he hasn't played terribly and they didn't view someone else as a better option. Sorry man, as much as you don't like it, barely over 8000 yards and 45 TDs vs. 39 INTs is a bust. We're just hoping he can bounce back from being a bust, but arguing that he wasn't a bust is just blind homerism. If a division rival had made this trade and hitched their wagon to Sam Darnold we'd be laughing our asses off.
-
Do yourself a favor before making this comparison again - check Tannehill's numbers in Miami and do the same for Darnold in NY.
-
You and MrScot should have a contest to see who can get more butthurt while doing their absolute best to refrain from offering an actual opinion of their own. Unfortunately, I already know the result. We all lose.
-
It's not premature. He absolutely was a bust for the Jets. A former #3 overall pick getting traded for a future 2nd and a couple of late rounders after three bad seasons of play is a bust. Alex Smith had some good play later in his career, but he was still a bust in SF.
-
The past is generally the best predictor of the future. Most busts don't bounce back elsewhere. Most subpar players continue to be subpar. Teddy improved last year. He just didn't improve enough. We're probably going to experience a repeat of that this season. Hopefully Darnold will prove to be an exception to those norms but norms are norms for a reason. You don't get moral superiority as a fan for pie in the sky thinking.
-
You always think statements are definitive. I'm simply talking about what is most likely. Not everything is black and white, as desperately as you try to project that on others while always trying to take up residence in the gray yourself.

We're Panthers fans. Talking draft before Halloween has kinda been a way of life for a good chunk of our history.
-
I'm not assuming that he can't. I'm just not assuming that he necessarily will. And let's be honest, we're not talking about a slight or even moderate improvement leading to him being a good QB. We're talking about him needing to make a giant leap. It's just unlikely. I hope it happens, but I fully expect us to be discussing 2022 1st round QB prospects pretty early into next season
-
It was absolutely a horrible pick to draft another DT in the 1st when we had Star and KK with our other glaring needs. That pick needed to be an absolute home run to be justified, instead it was an absolute dud.
-
While it would be infuriating, at least it wouldn't be boring. I'd rather lose failing spectacularly than lose being too scared to give ourselves a chance.
-
Oh lawd, it's last off-season all over again. Any suggestion that our new QB who has historically been bad may not necessarily dramatically improve in the nirvana that is the Carolina Panthers under world leading guru Joe Brady is utter nonsense. I see that last year's results in that arena didn't sway any convictions. A.k.a some people are delusional.

Dat "3-4 defense" doe... That looked exactly like his previous 4-3 just with 3-4 OLBs playing DE. It held up about as well as one would've expected in the run game too.

2021 QB1 Stat Predictions (BleacherReport)
LinvilleGorge replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. The word "intangibles" gets thrown around a lot, but it's accurate. A lot of what goes into being a successful NFL player can't be measured. Does a guy have "it"? I don't know what "it" is but if you don't have it you ain't gonna make it. -
I guess it's sorta refreshing to at least have Rivera come out and openly admit that Cam was the entire offense.

If Fields wins ROTY playing for Nagy you might as well go ahead and get his bust ready for Canton. -

Even Darnold's most hopeful supporters don't expect him to be an MVP candidate.
