They already know Darnold sucks. They gambled on his physical talent but then they found out he sucks because he's not mentally a QB. They know PJ sucks. Corral is a 3rd round rookie that I'm sure they like but are you really relying on a 3rd round rookie QB to save your job? Because if you are, you're probably already as good as fired. At rookie mini-camp they probably confirmed what they already suspected - there's no way in hell this guy is going to be ready to play early on in his rookie year. It's been obvious for awhile now that we were going to add another vet QB and Baker has been the most obvious candidate ever since the Browns won (or you could legitimately argue they ultimately lost ) the Watson sweepstakes.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't want his cheating ass either way. No Panthers fan that watched the Broncos tee off on Cam Newton like Payton's Saints did on an aging Brett Favre should either. If we hire Sean Payton I'm out. That's it. Towel thrown.
-
No it's not. Principles matter. How many coaches have been suspended by the NFL for a year for grossly violating the spirit of the game? I'll save you the effort. Two. Sean Payton and his DC Gregg Williams for Bountygate.

Bountygate. That's enough for me. That's more than enough.

I really, really hope not.

I don't see it happening but I'd be happier than Sean Payton in a pharmacy.

Big Ten and SEC fixing to dismantle the ACC?

They gave up years ago. They basically transformed from state fans to just pure UNC haters. -

The latest rumors are interesting. My god it would be hilarious if UNC goes to the SEC and leaves state behind. Sheer hilarity would ensure from the wolfpack fanbase. All 37 of them. -
In short, the key to the season is Matt Rhule proving that he's an NFL caliber coach. I'm not holding my breath but I'd be pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong.

Joe Person and The 33rd Team break down the Mayfield trade
LinvilleGorge replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Displaying that "we'll get 'em next year" (or maybe two or three years down the road) attitude is something Panthers fans are very accustomed to. -
Why would anyone give up anything to pay Darnold $8M a year? The problem with this idea is that they've actually watched Sam Darnold play four NFL seasons. If we released Darnold all the offers he'd field would be 1-2 year prove it type deals with very little guaranteed money and some incentives built in to compensate him if he actually plays and performs.

I think the staff understands Darnold's limitations at this point. It's Baker's job to lose. He's going to have to suck not to be the starter.

Is Baker Mayfield the second best QB in the NFC South?
LinvilleGorge replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Maybe. Winston has put up big numbers in the past but they're accompanied with big turnover numbers. If he can cut down on the turnovers he's probably #2. Baker is the best QB we've had since prime Cam. Which is saying absolutely nothing. -
Went from 1 to 5. This move at least makes thinks interesting. Total boom or bust. Baker will resurrect his career or crash and burn. His inability to bite his tongue will provide highlight reel entertainment either way.
-
I hope he comes into the season motivated as hell. Meanwhile, I think he might actually be the real life version of Loc Dog from Don't be a Menace.

Beautiful sunset after the storm. God I love living out where my nearest neighbors are deer and turkey and I can't see another house. I loved my 14 years in Colorado, but I bailed to get this elbow room.

Honestly, it seems like the $EC and Big 10 are basically trying to recreate the NFL in college football. It wouldn't shock me for both to go for 20 teams, create a 4 team playoff for the conference championship then have those two teams play for the national championship. They become the de facto college versions of the NFC and AFC. I think you'll see some legacy programs get the boot (Vanderbilt and Northwestern being two obvious candidates) and replaced by better football programs (Notre Dame and Clemson being two obvious candidates). At that point, everyone else might as well go to D1AA or whatever the hell they call that these days. With the structure of the NCAA basketball tournament, I think the landscape of determining the basketball national championship would be relatively unaffected. -

I do wonder if they're going to kill the golden goose though. The Alabama's of the world will be fine. There's no pro sports anywhere around. It's all those people have. But at some point if they just keep turning college sports into what basically amounts to a semi-pro league it's going to eventually turn fans off. College basketball is already a shadow of itself from it's heyday. Football is doing fine but that's primarily because America just fuging lives football. I don't know, the landscape is changing extremely rapidly. -

state fans need not worry. The NC legislature will probably force UNC to bring along it's idiotic little shithead stepbrother wherever they go. -

I don't really care. I'm a UNC fan. As far as I'm concerned the other schools field teams just to give us someone to play. -

If you think more than 5% of conspiracy theories prove true then you definitely have conspiracy brain. 5% is likely very generous. -

Yeah, that's what people like Alex Jones say when they're slinging mud at the wall like a meth fueled chimp. The vast majority of conspiracy theories are complete BS but inevitably a small percentage will end up being at least partially true. The problem with conspiracy brain is latching onto all of them and then spiking the football when the blind squirrel finds a nut. It's be like bragging about going 1 for 20 from the free throw line. Yeah, you made a free throw but my god you shot 5%.
