To be honest, our best season by far under Tepper was his first which was still with all of JR's football people in place. Still waiting to see this big impact he's going to have on the football side of the operation because so far I can't say that I'm impressed.

It's a lot less about the picks and a lot more about foregoing the opportunity to pursue a potential legit franchise QB prospect due to Darnold being here. And for the record for clarification, it's three picks.

General Friday Draft Discussion - Rounds 2-3
LinvilleGorge replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I LOVE Javante Williams but drafting a RB in the 2nd with this roster should be an immediately fireable offense. -
Tepper wanted Fields. Let his guys make the football decisions

LOL! As horrific as the Panthers have been at handling the QB position the past couple of years, Denver has been at it at this pace for six years now. -

I would say that surely acquiring a Teddy Bridgewater level QB wouldn't make a team change their plans at QB, but damned if acquiring a Sam Darnold level QB didn't get us to change ours. -
Here’s a little nugget for your Friday. The Stanford double-dip.

You and me both because my hope for Darnold is slim to none. -

I've been saying if we don't go QB in the 1st, we very well could look at a QB soon thereafter with the most likely canidates being Mills and Mond. Until you check that box you have to keep adding options. If it was my call, we'd already gave Fields in house but it's not. I'd prefer Mills over Mond. -

Seems relatively plausible. Fitterer has said 2nd round talent is deep and they've said there's only about 150 players on our board. -
Opinion: This is the round Carolina trades back
LinvilleGorge replied to AppHeel's topic in 2025 NFL Draft
It's certainly possible. -
I'd love to see us bolster the OL, but I really hope we don't draft Dickerson. Love the player, but damn he has injury red flags for days. I just think we have too many needs to take that kind of risk in round two.

Love Jaycee Horn and he was third on my board, but...

You could've saved yourself a lot of typing by simply saying, "I don't understand the concept of opportunity cost." -
Imagine being the statistically worst person in your field of work and still having someone decide you're worth $19M guaranteed next year. What a time to be alive.

It's really not. Opportunity cost is real. We had the opportunity to draft a potential franchise QB and we passed because we had Sam Darnold. That's placing a big bet on Darnold. -

I hope it all works out for the best but we have basically mortgaged the immediate future of the franchise on the statistically worst QB in the NFL. I'll hope otherwise, but these situations usually play out predictably. -
Unfortunately, there's a lot more evidence to point to in Panthers' history than our most recent draft pick.
-
This. We took a huge gamble passing on QB to take a CB. Even if Horn is great, if Darnold doesn't resurrect his career and Fields and/or Jones becomes a legit franchise QB then we made a colossal mistake.

General Friday Draft Discussion - Rounds 2-3

Nah, everyone who follows the NFL draft knew about Chinn leading up to the draft. I'm talking about the Amini Silatolus of Panthers lore. I'm still not fully convinced that Midwestern State University is a real thing. That sounds like a generic opponent from a movie like The Waterboy. -

It's day two of the NFL draft! Time for the Panthers to draft some random small school prospect that has us all going -
I hope we made the right choice. The choices we've been making at QB recently though don't exactly inspire confidence. The Broncos have an even longer, more distinct history of making terrible choices at QB.

Good on Tepper for trusting his people. Now his people better hope they're right or they may realize they were given the rope to hang themselves with. -
I think what he meant is that as long as the Panthers are successful then it doesn't matter what Fields does. But if Darnold continues to be a bum and we continue to flail while Fields and/or Jones ends up being successful in Chicago and/or NE leading them to deep playoff runs with elite QB play... oh wee mayne, is that ever gonna look bad.

Might as well go FS in the 2nd. Just play 1980s football. Play D, run the ball, throw it when you're forced to. It won't compete for championships but it might be decent enough to not get you fired.

What's that throwy position? We're missing that too.
