  1. Of course we did. Our defense is good now. You act as if this does not happen and that there are conditions--the conditions you describe apply to us. In 2013, the Chiefs went 11-5 with new QB Alex Smith after going 2-14 the year before. In 2008 the Dolphins finished 11-5 after nearly going 0-16 the year before--an OT win in week 15 saved them from that fate--and they brought in Chad Pennington. Alex Smith and Chad Pennington were no better than Sam Darnold before going to their new teams and turning it around.
  2. I know, but 2014-2015 was not that long ago. We went from below .500 to 15-1...
  3. The first 2 teams we play have good DLines. I think, however, that they are going to give the vets a shot first, meanwhile, all the experience (even if from the sideline) you can give the rookies, you try to give it to them. Some of you think starting third round OL is the solution. That shortens the rookie season, making the "wall" less daunting. Give them 10 games to play, not 17, and the chance for success is greater. The Elflein contract was a head scratcher, but they were hoping his athleticism would help. As for ignoring the OL, if they paid attention to the OL, would you be willing to hand over Marshall? He was about the 57th pick and we could have grabbed a serviceable rookie in round 2--not great--but serviceable. It is probably our best bet to pray that Erving holds up at LT to some degree (w/ TE help) and that Christensen, Jordan, and maybe Brown develop quickly.
  4. He is a Patriot. Was a Patriot. Not a Panther any longer. Time to not care. I want Cam to do well in the next phase of his life, but I am a Panther fan, not any one player is more important than that. And when a player goes to another team, he becomes part of the enemy--nothing more. Sorry if that hurts some feelings. Cam was a great guy here, and that is all I care about. Did he know New England's playbook? I am not going to defend him or attack him, because I do not know enough about it. Here is what we know: Cam was a great athlete and we did not see him screwing up here, but the playbook was modified to his college game and skill set. Brady and New England had 20 years to develop a very complex playbook. Did they expect Cam to adopt that in a season? I dunno.
  5. He is going to be a good NFL QB
  6. Maybe that is why we picked up 240 lbs of RB (Freeman). I dunno. We could address the OL or just give it crutches. The Saints D will expose us.
  7. I mean, there is no excuse for not finding a quality LG---LT is another story. I think we are going to use the TEs a lot to help, but they are not helping the middle that much. Paradis and Elf need to get off those skates and actually beat some people. Moton to LT and Christensen to RT sure sounds good. Then put Jordan at LG--better than what we have now.
  8. My Grandfather was head of corrections for the state of oregon. Once, when I was kid, I had to come in and get cleaned up because the Governor was coming over--no cops or secret service--he just drove up in his car with his wife and got out and walked inside. He once had lunch with the crew of One Flew Over the CooCoo's nest--the were filming part of it in his building. And then there was the minnow catching in the Willamette (Spelling?) River. Good times.
  9. Do not care. I think we win 10 and go to the playoffs (or lose out in a tie breaker)
  10. i was a bit concerned with Darnold's "Happy feet" --bouncing a bit when it is not necessary
  11. I think this guy will be protected. He will be our #2 in due time. My theory about Melvin: Thomas Oliver III and Taylor looked good in camp. Hartsfield locked down the nickel. He was going to be cut in after 2 weeks anyway. I think we have made some pretty strong additions in this dumpster dive: Rolls Royce, Captain Morgan, and Michael Jordan. All make us better
  12. If we do not sign another WR, 25% of our PS will be wide outs.
  13. There is no way I would trade bacon for eggs, and if you threw in the toast, I'd still go "no." Isn't the topic hypothetical trades that we can't predict? But Bacon--I am not trading, I don't care how versatile an egg is, or how much potential it has.
  14. He is also tall and young--he should be our backup by midseason if there is a need for a backup at any time before then.
  15. That's right! Since you took the high road, so will I.
  16. Nice pick. I recall liking him as a late-round QB in 2019 or so. He had a better JR year than SR year, but at Florida International, who knows what kind of support he had.
  17. Interesting point. Smith care out of nowhere. I was expecting a decent, borderline roster/PS player, but at any other time in Panther history (except maybe when we had Proehl or Cotchery) he would have been the #3 slot WR
  18. I 100% agree, but just assume that Zylstra is a different type of WR and special teams player--but I have no idea. When Moore seemed like he was loafing during last game (Smitty commented on it) I wondered if something bad was going on in the locker room. We never (prolly) expected to draft Marshall, but when he was there at the end of the second round, you take him. That meant Moore's days were numbered. I am guessing we tried to move him and could not.
  19. I did not know that. Used to play for the Rams in the 60s and maybe into the 70s. My dad caught 35 passes his sophomore year at USC (today, that is like 80) so he never regretted it. Gabriel and Dad met each other in all star basketball tournaments in 8th grade (Gabriel was from Wilmington, I believe) and then the Shrine Bowl and East West game. He said that Gabriel almost pulled him to Raleigh.
  20. Let me say this. If you were to ask me (realistically) what you wanted to find in today's dumpster dive, I would have told you a G/C. I have not seen Erving enough, but what I did see was not atrocious. What I saw coming through A gap on the left side was atrocious. Maybe they are coming together, maybe they were simply behind the defense (offenses are this time of year and they do not do much game planning before preseason games)--BUT a 23-year old G/C like Jordan is a nice addition. He is a good athlete and has a chance to start this season. He has a season of starting experience (19 games) under his belt. I am thinking he could play LG or C, and after giving him some time to study the offense, he could be a find. I will not miss Moore, and we saved a few $$$ by doing this, so it is a Win/Win.
  21. My dad and Gabriel were friends. Roman tried to get my dad (an end) to come to State to play (they were the same age) and Dad ended up going to South Carolina.
