  1. Yes--instinctive and subtle---it is the secret to his success, imo.
  2. Here, I want to dissect the common perceptions about Jones and this post sets me up nicely--not attacking you, countryboi, just using the post to make some counter points. You may be right, but I would like to know the facts/stats that told you this---what was it you saw or read that drew you to this conclusion? Would you have called Tom Brady "generationally talented" as a Senior at Michigan? Jones broke the NCAA passing completion percentage record by completing 77.4% of his passes. In the Championship game, Jones completed 36 of 45 passes for 464 yards and five touchdowns during Alabama’s 52-24 victory over Ohio State in Monday’s In doing so, he set national championship game records in passing yards and competitions. Tom Brady's senior year at Michigan (with Jones' comparisons in parentheses): 16 TDs (42), 6 Interceptions (4), completion percentage 61.0% (77.4), and 2217 total yards (4500) with 7.5 yards per attempt (11.2). So if you call Brady a "generational talent", then you would not have done so when he was in college, based on the comparisons to Jones above. If he was not one in college but became one, then you would have to admit that Jones was about twice as effective in college as a player you describe to be a generational talent in the NFL, and you should be able to provide us with the reasons Jones as a college senior was more productive than the GOAT was in college, yet Jones is not a generational talent and the underachieving Brady is. Are you basing your opinion about Jones solely on the fact that he lacks mobility? Rhule said that Jones is very smart and most scouts drool over his ability to effectively and quickly go through progressions. Is running more important than his intelligence and accuracy? Just curious how one might defend the supposition that Jones is not going to be a generational talent when the GOAT was not a generational talent in college by comparison, and he just won a ring a few weeks ago--his seventh. Not trying to be a tool, but I am really interested in knowing what it is you all see that I cannot.
  3. Ertz and CMC are Stanford boys. Nothing more than that, imo.
  4. Yes, and he is probably available if you want to see what happens to a QB if they are not protected or given enough weapons---I would love to see how a real coaching staff uses a mobile qb--RR showed us how to run one into the ground to save his ass every year.
  5. Or you won't be back at all if you are wrong.
  6. Based on Verge's list, the Panthers want the Anti-Bridgewater--an athletic mobile, strong-armed QB--a Cam Newton-type QB.
  7. Unless Alex Smith joins former college coach Meyer--and I see no reason Meyer would really want to do that.
  8. Two teams scare me about taking him before us: Atlanta and Detroit. Of course, there is always the trade up, and if I am sitting there in the top 5 and I do NOT need a QB, I am selling.
  9. What grade do you give me?: My friend used to be a good friend of Brandon Beane's. I knew Beane a bit, but not like him. Now my friend is the greeter at WalMart where they sell CDs that contain songs that some GMs might have heard.
  10. We could have Fields' Field. Rhule's Rules. And when Chinn's Chin is in the game, you might see Snow on the sidelines of FIeld's Field. I gotta get Cable.
  11. I can never tell with QBs in a year when half the NFL is going out. Gonna be like black friday at QBMart.
  12. You are right--I was referring to another post (and others about stats--and I have done it as well) and was going to compare him to Big 10 QBs-not sure why I went SEC--I was thinking, Big 10, SEC--not as many QBs in the NFL as one might expect--In the Big 10, Cousins and a bunch of old guys--SEC? No better. ACC? Bingo. That is where they are coming from--but I abandoned that point because it was off topic-how my brain works. I was against Fields--wanted Wilson or Lance--(non Big 10, SEC) but I have been high on Jones. This video states one thing that is important for all QBs, but especially for Fields: He has to be in the right system--they have to design a system to accentuate his talents. Damn he reminds me of a smaller Cam. Very good thread, btw. I love these analytical pieces--better than "Jones sucks because I said so" threads. Makes me go back, watch more YouTube, read more about him, and try to reframe my picture of him.
  13. Well, I appreciate your contributions and insights--I think you do an excellent job of explaining to everyone the context and source--it really helps me get through February-March 17. I am curious about 1 thing: Would it benefit any team to trade BEFORE free agency? So when you say, "before the draft," I wonder about the strategy-I do not see QBs in free agency that may threaten this deal, so... (you may have already addressed this 2 posts earlier)
  14. It does. I think that is my point as well--you are not a fortune teller, but you are sharing the internal "grapevine" stuff that we are not privy to hear--which is why it is not news, but informed rumor--opposed to what we otherwise hear. I did not know the level scout or the rest of your first sentence, however--and that does help.
  15. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but how many stud college QBs from the SEC do we see crash and burn in the NFL? So using their stats is fool's gold, to some degree, but it is all we have to go on. I prefer someone who can break down the position and see what he does well and does not do well---and that video (all we have, really) is a bit (as stated) "Sobering" at times. You get excited at first, but then you get a bit concerned. Can Fields be coached up? Probably. But these QBs are so risky this year.
  16. Yes, and people have to remember this about Verge--Scouts (and friends) do not predict--they do not have inside information beyond the internal grapevine. So she shares what she hears--and things change from day to day, as we all know. But at the end of the day, it is like this-=-there is a fan level where people with a website repeat each other based on suppositions and what they appear to be good fits, and there is the underground NFL--where the people in the business engage is more informed chatter. That is more likely to be factual in the end, than listening to the draft carnies on the websites that compete for clicks.
  17. I would deal him for a fifth to get out of most of the contract--I like the idea of bundling Thompson for a pick.
  18. He makes good reads, but the video states, "for every good read there are 2-3 bad ones" and that is not getting it done. Holding the ball too long--Cam did the same thing and the play rarely worked out for him--led to his injuries. I love the skill set, and if they can get him in the film room and covert that to the field, maybe we can get him to make better reads and get rid of the ball sooner--whatever we do, give him a line, a TE, and a game-breaking RB--we are almost there on offense.
  19. Hurney magic Key Free Agents: Okung (hurt most of season) Whitehead (sucked whole season, benched for a special teamer) Weatherly (hurt and sucked most of season) Bridgewater (4 wins) Second contract: CMC (hurt twice--I had more yards getting from my car to my house than CMC) Dead money: 25% of the cap (The reason Marty was fired)
  20. Round 2 gem--if he lasts that long.
  21. I agree, and the articles about Greg Little called him boom or bust--but I think Little had more red flags. I added a second article to my post above, but it could be the same guy. When you have a #1 like Sewell, it is easy to spot flaws in others. He is very good.
  22. I had him as the fourth rated OT in a deep class--now I am confused about him. This is an example of what I read, from a PFN source (again, one man's opinion): https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2021-nfl-draft-ten-overrated-prospects/ Samuel Cosmi This biggest farce I’ve come across on draft twitter so far this year is that Samuel Cosmi had a strong game against LSU. Cosmi won a few reps here and there, but I watched K’Lavon Chaisson take him to church more than a few times that Saturday night on national television. Cosmi, like most of this list, has a physical profile that will intrigue teams and should get him drafted decently early. However, I’ve seen Cosmi as a number of evaluators OT2 behind Penei Sewell when I believe he should be closer to OT10. His down to down consistency, footwork, and hand usage all need to be cleaned up before I can view him as a top-50 prospect. Then there is this from the OT review of PFN: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2021-nfl-draft-offensive-tackle-superlatives/ Most overrated: Samuel Cosmi, Texas I’ve seen some analysts have Samuel Cosmi as high as OT2 and that blows my mind. What’s even more interesting is that I’ve seen people mention his performance against LSU as one of the reasons they’re a fan of him. When I watched Cosmi against LSU, I saw an underdeveloped athlete losing far too consistently for my taste. Cosmi will have a lot of developing to do before I can see him even making my top 50. Luckily for him, he’s an elite athlete which will cause the NFL to overdraft him. Honorable mentions: Dillon Radunz, NDSU/Walker Little Could be the same guy
  23. Agents use awards to negotiate higher salaries. I think Chinn deserved it, but there is a bright spot. Tre Turner, for example. Had a good year or two and got invited to every pro bowl after that--some as an alternate. He was above average, but he used these pro bowls to sound elite. He got paid and became average to below average, his conditioning seemed to suffer--and we then had to trade him to absorb the losses of a contract based on past accolades. One side, the fan side, wanted it for him. The business side decided it was a meaningless award that would hurt the team more than help it.
  24. So any opinion on a podcast is enough said for you? If you will agree to that, I have some links I will share with you. You don't know, and you can't admit it. I admit I don't know, which is why I rely on multiple facts and sources and then include probabilities to conclude that nobody knows for sure--which is why so many QBs bust. But here we are in March and you have decided who wil bust and who will excel at the next level based on a podcast? Enough said? Hilarious. You are full of it. Take care and good luck with that thing you do.
