  1. Have not read entire thread--could this mean they are going to deal Horn or not sign him to an extended deal? He has been a bit injury prone, and maybe they do not want to pay full price for an elite CB who can only be on the field half the time. Imagine they trade Horn for a second rounder, draft Johnson and sign Jackson--that saves you about $20m or so (guessing) and you have the CB spot locked up. The $20m could go to an elite WR, and you could then grab an edge and a DT-type in round 2. I don't know, but I imagine they are having talks about Horn's contract demands and his injury history.
  2. From OTC: Samuel’s contract is more or less a players dream and a team’s nightmare. The 49ers made the decision to use large bonuses in every year of the contract for much needed cap relief each season. The 49ers have prorated about 92.5% of the first three years of Samuel’s contract extension that was signed in 2022. This leaves the 49ers with $31.55 million in prorated charges to deal with in 2025 if Samuel is cut or traded, which is #3.7M more in cap space than the 49ers have spent on Samuel as an active player over the last three years. If the 49ers were to trade Samuel they would take all $31.55 million in cap charges in 2025 and would require some minor tweaking of his contract to avoid that number jumping by about another $3 million. The 49ers do not have to rush on a trade since they created a salary cap cushion via a teamwide commitment to contract restructures made in 2024. While the option for Samuel is technically due on the 10th day of the league year the 49ers could elect to not pick up the option and allow Samuel’s salary for the year to rise from $1.17 million to $16.6 million, increasing his cap charge from $15.869 million to about $28.2 million. While the jump is big, the 49ers should be prepared to take that increase if they are willing to take $31M in dead money via trade. None of Samuel’s salary is guaranteed and this would allow them to hold onto Samuel until the draft to try to move him in a trade.

    #1 need

Everyone knows, "Inside out, front to back." WIth that said, I say this: DT (NT) is our biggest need. With Wonnum and Clowney on the roster as of now, our biggest need is not OLB or DE (we get Brown back and we have Robinson under contract, as of now). Our next biggest need? Edge. Clowney had 44 pressures and is solid, but he will be 32. Post June 1, we can save about $10m in cap room by releasing him. I think his number is fair for the production, but at 32, will he be worth a $14m salary? Even if he stays, we need a young guy to develop under him and take some reps. Our third biggest need? DE. A'shawn Robinson will be 31 and he was mediocre at best in 2024. Pass rush (24 pressures, which is about 1.3 per game. He was not great vs the run. His post June 1 cap savings? $7.5 million. I think we do better. Our 4th biggest need? S. Safeties are not that hard to find, but we have 1 UDFA S on our roster right now. Still, we could use some smart players back there. Our 5th biggest need? WR. Some of you will say this should have come sooner, but you mean "#1 WR." We are not fixing the defense and obtaining a #1 WR this season. We will have to develop XL, continue to grow Coker, hope Theilen stays healthy, and draft some WRs later in the draft. The draft is not loaded at the top, but in the 3rd/4rth, there could be some gems. Our 6th biggest need? CB. Horn is on one side, Smith-Wade at nickel. Nobody across from Horn. Aykaleb Evans looked strong vs the run and meh vs the pass in very limited action at the end of the season, so maybe he becomes depth at big nickel. At 6-2, 200, he is a good size. We have limited draft picks, so I say we should let a Wonnun or Robinson go if it means being able to sign Jackson for a 2-3 year deal. Our 7th biggest need: ILB: Trevin Wallace was good for a rookie and Jewell was solid, but we need a run stuffer other RBs fear. Our 8th biggest need: RB We need a RB who can catch passes, hammer the DL, and pass block. One that never smiles, except in one rare photo:
  4. Yeah, I appreciate Juan for digging and finding nuggets, but if you read his headline and then see his name beneath it, you do temper expectations. I'd rather have him on the front lines, however, than not.
  5. It is probably nothing--but Evans and Bartholomew, a pair of CBs from their PS, looked decent to good in the last game or two. Still, you sign Jackson if you can--ask yourself, "Would you rather have Mike Jackson or DJ Wonnum?" $7 million savings to cut Wonnum.
  6. Did Brown gain an advantage? Yes. I throw the flag.
  7. What? Did they show Putin?
  8. I think the veteran QBs will find a home. I have no knowledge of who is projected to go where--just guesses. here goes my prediction, so you will know who is NOT going where: 1. Raiders: Darnold (needs a good OL--Raiders have it) 2. Titans: (Ward, draft) 3. Jets: Cousins 4. Giants: Wilson 5. Browns: Sanders (draft) 6. Indianapolis: Daniel Jones 7. Steelers: Rodgers
  9. I am sure you have a reason: Why is Mykel Williams so low? Some people have him top 10. I am higher on Landon Jackson that you are--other than that, I get your list.
  10. The thing is, they do not know, we do not know. The mocks may be different than what we would like, but until that player gets onto the field and into the system, we don't know--at least this mock is representative of our needs. To me, the best part about this draft that I swore would be an issue in October--We are not talking about QB3.
  11. I see the logic--not crazy about the draft. In my view, if you draft WR in round 1, it screws up the defensive needs we should address. The only pick I really loved here is Jordan Phillips, DT, UM, at pick 110. He is going to be a steal. When Morgan says he wants some Dawgs, I see those as guys with high motors who might drop when comparing 40 times and stats, but you know they are going to make a roster and kick and scratch their ways onto the field. Players that I have noticed who are like that (examples): Restrepo, WR (slot) from Miami Bech, WR from TCU (prolly a slot) Bassa LB from Oregon' Skattlebo RB from Arizona State These are players who are going to be there on day 2 and 3--
  12. I don't like to brag, but I personally busted open the Professional Wrestling fraud--I called it fake and staged. Now we know. You're welcome. Seriously--yes--if they can show Taylor Swift they will increase their market share--case study? My wife. She loves Taylor Swift and watches the Chiefs for that reason. It is a non-threatening cult, like those who followed the Beatles. On the other hand, if the news that the NFL is not putting "End Racism" on the endline of the endzones because the President is going to attend, they are not supporting racism--they just know that anything that appears to be against the President will be attacked by his followers--even something as obvious as that--so they are, in my opinion, attempting to avoid political discourse at games. If you think Taylor Swift is part of political discourse, then perhaps you need to adjust your sense of logic and common sense. She is remarkably successful and she supports humanitarianism. If that is something your party attacks, then tell me more about your party. Does that mean the game will be rigged? Hardly. We live in a nation where conspiracy theories are gobbled up like Milk Duds in a theater. It is time we got back to thinking things through and questioning our sources of information.
  13. We could be paying him at his peak--I dunno. Josh Norman was a late bloomer--so you never know.
  14. For what it is worth, I got this from Pro Football: "Walter Nolen is a high-upside talent with flashes of dominance but struggles with consistency. At his best, he’s a disruptive force, overwhelming quarterbacks and ball carriers. However, he can also disappear for stretches, seemingly reacting a step too slow. His effort isn’t the issue—it’s about refining his instincts and processing. If a team can unlock his full potential, Nolen could be a steal in the draft."
  15. I like him a lot--I also like Grant, Williams, and Harmon. I have seen various rankings for Nolen and I am confused about the DTs available. Most of what I have seen has him mid to late round 1--if that is accurate (hardly any of it is), then 8 would be a reach, but from this video, he is everywhere. Nolen--in my mind which is based on where I get my intel, would be a reach at 8. However, it all depends on what you are looking for and what you read about them. I am guessing that our biggest need is the NT, but if we do not select a DT in round 1, TJ Sanders of SC was dominant when i watched the Gamecocks. He should be there at the end of round 2. My sleepers are Omarr Norman-Lott (Tennessee, 3rd round) and Darius Alexander (Toledo, day 3) I think we need to double dip, so an early DT and a sleeper could work.
  16. Yeah, this made me think a bit. I don't know if the Safety-LB-big nickel issue would be the same as an ILB/Edge issue-but if this is a coach's creativity issue, maybe so. It seems there are those coaches that pioneer and innovate and there are those coaches that react to those who create.
  17. Jihad Campbell of Alabama is a similar player to Jalon Walker, if I am reading things correctly. Built like an edge, can also play ILB. Campbell is projecting in the second round but his stock has been rising--Micah Parsons effect... To me, this ALLOWS you to take a Jack Sawyer or a Landon Jackson--imagine an ILB who can move to the edge on some downs, allowing the strong side edge to move inside to the 5 Tech with another edge at the 9 technique. You would move Sawyer to the five, move Walker to the nine... The QB senses pressure on that side, so he would have to trade the TE or move a back to that side--mismatches. Or he calls a hot route and throws in that direction, but Walker, from the 9 technique, drops into coverage--lotta things you can do with a player like that.
  18. I have not researched either side, so I do not have a dog in this fight, but I would like to point out that you present your points using data, stats, and specific parallels. You don't attack the opposing person, you attack their viewpoint. Well done. We need more of this type of posting whether I agree with your views or not.
  19. Here is the dilemma: 1. Do you trade for a player entering his fourth year if you agree to offer him a new contract, something you can do after 3 years of playing on a rookie contract? If so, to avoid sending a first rounder for a "one and done" You will have to pay Wilson approximately $100m on a 4 year deal and lose your 2025 first round draft pick. Wilson has been over 1000 yards each season. 2. Chris Godwin is 29, but before his 2024 (injured some) season, had several 1000 yard seasons. His salary will not exceed $25m per, according to the internet, which is always accurate. With Godwin, you get a player less likely to evolve into a #1 than Wilson during the contract, and his play will likely decline slightly each year over the contract. I imagine a 3-year deal at about $70m would be the range. However, to get Godwin, you have to compete with other teams, sell the Panthers, and possibly overpay. You do not, however, lose a draft pick. 3. Would we give away our first rounder and pay top dollar for a WR if we thought Legette might develop into the #1? I know a lot of you feel that he sucks, but as an athlete, his is elite. WR skills need to be developed. We all knew he was raw when we drafted him. We saw Legette at his floor--but we do not know his ceiling. He has a long way to go, but if they can develop him like they did Bryce, Cade, Zavala etc. are we "giving up" on XL? Most NFL players claim to grow the most between years 1 and 2. Is the answer to sign a lower-level free agent WR--like KJ Osborn--who averaged about 650 yards per season in Minnesota with AT and Jefferson--He is 27, and would improve the WR room--at a cost of about $5m per season. This seems like the "Panther way" and I worry that we get stuck in mediocrity by our GM decisions--but you build through the draft. In other words, I have no idea.
  20. I know. He would have to find a two defensive linemen and an edge--not to mention a CB and 2 Safeties. Or LB. Heck, you might be better off signing a free agent at top dollar instead of giving away draft capital and then paying top dollar to keep him. Jamarr Chase is about to get a new deal and he will be seeking $40m.
  21. Consider this: A first round pick has about a 50-60% chance of success. This draft has some of our needs in the fourth round. I would do this deal, but you cannot ignore the cap. If you do this deal, and I am not sure how this would work, but can you not agree in principle to an extension? You are looking at $25-30m. Wilson had 1100 yards and was the third most targeted WR in 2024. He caught two thirds of them-not bad. To do this, you may have to cut Clowney and not re-sign Dalton. Rework Hunt. Rework and extend Moton. Wilson, XL, AT, Coker--not bad, especially if XL and Coker improve from year 1.
  22. replace the "L" with an "H" and that was my high school nickname. Be here all week-try the veal.
