  1. Wish my wife wasn't allergic, I need a mouser. But it would probably never make it with the birds of prey, coyotes and fox around here.
  2. I've used a thunder jacket on my oldest as he just loses it when there are thunder storms, hunters in the woods and July 4th. It works as long as you know ahead of time there is going to be noise (July 4th). But try to put it on and expect results after he's already heard whatever the noise is and they aren't worth crap. Dogs sense the barometric pressure change and, given they hear twice as many frequencies and from 4 times the distance we can, if there's any way to get the jacket on before, it will work. But, he's over 8 years old and nothing will change at this point. So, when there's a thunderclap and he's running around the back acre barking at the sky... well.... Not much for doing the drug thing, but benadryl works also.
  3. Oh, and if you're not familiar with Brendan Lemieux, just You Tube him and watch all of his fights, cheap shots included. Never thought I'd see the day the Canes would sign someone with that rep and style of play.
  4. I don't want to jinx this, but didn't Max Patches say the same thing about his Achilles?
  5. Oh, wtf.... This does nothing for Carolina. As a matter of fact, it's subtraction by addition. The guy is a penalty machine (484 PIM in 275 games). I don't fugging understand this move at all except to say, are the Canes now playing guys to be healthy scratches every game? I wouldn't let this guy on the ice between periods, let alone when the game is in the balance. May as well have kept Stastny or Stepan.
  6. To be clear, city residents in NC also pay county taxes. So, while Tepper will pony up some of the money, Charlotte will have to come up with the rest as Meck County will not raise property taxes in order to contribute. And, in my humble opinion, the residents shouldn't have to foot the bill for any of these stadium renovations, new construction or otherwise given how much money the NFL and individual teams are raking in every year.
  7. Canes have $3.3M in cap space and should still be looking for a forward who will add 30-45 points. The Pesce trade needs to happen and free up another $4M in cap space. The TDA deal, if there is one, is not yet applied. I'll throw a couple names out there who are not Tarasenko: Nick Ritchie and Tomas Tatar. Ritchie has had some good seasons, albeit he's probably a 30-point guy at best. But he's young, fairly inexpensive and a left-handed, LW. Tatar, on the other hand, is 32, but can play both sides of the ice as a lefty. He also averages over 40 points per season and will likely cost the Canes about $5M AAV. And, another thing I do like about both guys- they play with a lot of grit. Ritchie is 6-3 @ 230lbs.
  8. Well done. To be honest, I almost pulled the trigger on an Ethan Bear when he was here.
  9. Can he play on the wing? I mean, ffs, this team needs forward help. Half of the D is new guys and the Canes signed Bunting to replace Pool Party, Stastny, Stepan, etc. and Svech will be shelved until January?
  10. Thee are a few that can be worn in perpetuity and never be wrong: RBA, J. Staal, Weeks, Wesley, Justin Williams.
  11. https://www.nhltraderumors.me/2023/07/nhl-rumors-3-free-agent-destinations.html The Vancouver Canucks decided not to qualify Ethan Bear, making him an unrestricted free agent. To this point, he still hasn't found a new team and is definitely good enough to play in the NHL. Thus far, his NHL career has taken him from the Edmonton Oilers to the Carolina Hurricanes to the Canucks. His career year came at age 22 with the Oilers and he is looking for a home where he can get back to that level. He is young and still has lots to give, so let's see where an opportunity can arise for him.
  12. Most Canes fans look at NHL personnel/salary cap just as they look at NFL personnel/salary cap. There is a big difference in the 2 and I think most average hockey fans don't really know the ins-and-outs, they would rather just see the same guys every year. That way they dont' have to agonize over who's name they'll have on a sweater next year. Could break the bank dropping a couple hundy on a sweater and the guy ends up leaving the following year.
  13. I see Ethan Bear remains unsigned. I hope someone gives him a shot. Will likely never be a top 4, but he could definitely fill a 3rd pair spot. He's a good guy- wish him the best.
  14. You're right in that moving Jarvy to the 4 is kind of a gut punch. But, there's not much room to slot him in anywhere unless Turbo gets moved. Even then, someone might have to play on their off-side.
  15. Atlanta proper (inside the city limits): 500,000 Atlanta metro area: 6M Charlotte proper (inside the city limits): 875,000 Charlotte metro area: 2.7M
  16. If you're going to use sauce, a nice Kansas City-style red sauce is the only way to go.
  17. Until #37 comes back, I see Turbo with Aho, keeping a familiar face on his line. Bunting is on the 2nd line until Svech is back. Noesen moves back to the checking line and Drury fills the 4th line.
  18. Speaking of Drury, what's the word on him? Haven't heard much since word got out he asked to be traded.
  19. I saw this thread and immediately turned on my TV in an attempt to find ESPN and see if it was still broadcasting. The best thing ever to be broadcast on ESPN:
  20. It's a valid point. Our defense wasn't the issue last year, so why fix something that isn't broken. Sure, there are future cap considerations and trying to wrangle a couple extensions this season to avoid the pitfalls of trying to find money to sign Aho, Noesen, Tuevo, Martinook (all UFAs) and Necas, Drury, Jarvis, Suzuki and Rees (all RFAs), but still... Ghost is out, TDA will be in; from an offensive standpoint, it's a Canes win. Defensively, not so much. DeHaan is out, Orlov is in; huge Canes win. Max Patch, Stastny, Stepan are out, Bunting is in. Another big win for the Canes. Now, find a way to get DeBrincat, Arvidsson, Kempe... and not have to break the bank that Karlsson is wanting.
  21. Sorry, but I think a move for Karlsson is nowhere near as important as adding a wing scoring threat. And I think the Karlsson deal prevents the team from pursuing its real need.
  22. My opinion is, if they're set on bringing back TDA, then let the Karlsson thing go. If a deal can't be done with Pesce, trade him and get a winger. Slavin-Burns Skjei/Orlov-Chatty Orlov/Skjei-TDA Coghlan Which brings me to my next point- a winger. I already listed Bunting some time back as a likely target, but let's look at a couple other possibilities: Troy Terry (Ducks) UFA: 67 and 61 points the last 2 seasons, and he's only 25. Could fit under the cap with not too much effort and send the Ducks Pesce. Alex DeBrincat (Sens) RFA: 187 G, 186 A (373 points) in 450 games during his 6 years in the league. Also only 25 years old. Would need Ottawa to retain some, give them Pesce and a prospect, I'm sure. Viktor Arvidsson or Adrian Kempe (Kings): Will be a UFA after next season and the Kings have no defense and bad goalies. Offer up Pesce and I'll take the 45 points Viktor will put up or the 50 Kempe will get.
  23. That's what I think as well, but Skjei has a no trade clause and he's under contract. You gonna bump him down to the 3rd line after having a career year as a top 4? The Canes problem with defense right now is they don't think it's good enough. Offer up Pesce and I'll take the 45 points Viktor will put up or the 50 Kempe will get.
  24. I'm not a fan of the Karlsson move, if it is indeed in the works. I'd rather keep Skjei, and if a deal can't get done to keep Pesce, he's a good trade option a lot of teams would want. Still need a winger.
  25. 3rd D right now, based on who the team has as right and left-handers will be Orlov and Chatfield. Slavin-Burns Skjei-Pesce Orlov- Chatfield Coghlan Bring in TDA (confirmed by Waddell) and you have another right handed blue-liner, making Pesce trade bait for a winger. Bring in Karlsson (strong rumors) and you have yet another right handed blue-liner. The only d-man the Canes have who has played on his off-side is Chatty, who is right-handed but has played left.
