No I am saying your arguement that Young is bad because he's below average in yards, comp % and rating is a weak arguement. Claiming a QB is trash because they are at 63.1% when the average is 64.% is stupid. Yeah, it's true they are below average but so are the other 16 QB's that are below average as well
-
A QB's primary function is to pass the ball but you don't care about the comp %. That says a lot right there. Mayfield is 90.1, 100.9, 84.2 and 30.1 on downs this year after yesterdays game. Young is at 94.4, 80.1, 73.4 and 156.3 this year. So Young is better on 1st and 4th downs while Baker is better on 2nd and third. So it's a split. How about per quarter. Young is 85.3, 69.0, 110.2 and 86.8 in 1st/2nd/3rd/4th quarters. Mayfield is 84.2, 90.5, 108.7 and 82.6. Young has better numbers in 3 of the 4 qtrs. Again, show me were Mayfield is "quite a bit ahead of the average in many categories" because I can't find them.

Yes, Mayfield is above average with INT %. He's actually very good there. I'll give you that. I'm not worried about rushing numbers. Young is 67.5% on 1st, 66.2% on second and 57.6% on 3rd downs. Mayfield is 59.2% on 1st, 66.4% on 2nd and 53.6% on 3rd downs. I bring all of this up only because I think people on the board have an idea in their head that is not supported by the facts. Everyone keeps bringing up his bad stats but when you compare them to other QB's with similar experience, they are all pretty much statistically the same. Better in some areas, worse in others.

The article shows the numbers going down from 243.5 to 228 then 217.9 and then 208 (or 217 as you say) last year. They have been going down both long term as well as short term. Having a Qb's throwing for ovre 250 a game isn't necessarily a good thing any longer. Prescott and Mahommes lead the league in yardage but neither team has over 6 wins (unless the Chiefs win tonight). The drop-off isn't huge, but it is there.

Saying their numbers are below average because they have played injured is just making excuses that do not hold up. They did not play hurt. They played till they got hurt and then they didn't play - simple. Funny you failed to bring up Caleb Williams. Mayfield is below Young in: comp % (63.4 vs 62.4), TD % (5.0 vs 4.9) and success rate (44.9 vs 44.1). He is not way above the average in any stat - none. Not even "a bunch". And since you ask, Young is not only above average, but is the best QB on 4th downs. His passer rating on 4th downs is 156.3, ahead of Mahommes, Mays, Geoff, Allen, Hurts, Preskott, etc. Not only is it the best, but he also is near the top in attempts so it's not like he had one attempt and it worked. Mayfield for comparison is anear the bottom on 4th downs with a rating of 30.1. Another area Young is above average with is GWD and 4th qtr comebacks - since you asked.

Looking at only the top passers only, it would appear they haven't changed but when you look at the NFL overall, they have. Here is a link to an ESPN article discussing that subject: Why passing numbers are down From that article, the passing numbers ince 2016 have gradually declined from 250.9 to 202.8

Well than so are Baker Mayfield, Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Michael Penix, Trevor Lawrence, Cam Ward and Caleb Williams. Are you claiming they should all be dumped because they are also below average?

You might not like him as an owner but you have to admit he has been great for the community.

That statement just reinforces what I said earlier.

He is 22nd in comp% ahead of Baker Mayfield, Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Michael Penix, Trevor Lawrence, Cam Ward and Caleb Williams. The league averge is 64.6. Young is currently 63.4%. I'm not sure a little over 1% difference below average is worth complaining about. Youngs' rating is 87.9, just behind Caleb Williams 88.2, Michael Penix 88.5 and CJ Stroud 91.1. Are these stats really what you are using to trash Young with.

I didn't say they did - CRA did and just responded to him saying "9 wins wouldn't mean much to him." That just seems foolish. Needless to say you saying you could care less about the Panthers' having a winning season just proves you care more about your own "Bryce Young sucks" narrative than the Panther's having success.
-
You didn't say 7, you said 9. I just repeated ytour words. Bryce has had below average games, he has not been a below average QB. I agree the goal is to build a contender and given they have defeated the Rams, the Packers, the Cowboys and a shoot-out with Atlanta, that's what I see. I'm not sure why you can't.
-
I would hate to know I dislike a QB so much that I couldn't win enjoy a 9 win season - especially given how long it's been since they have had a winning season.
-
Really. In what way?
-
Wow..Carolina Panthers forum - that's ancient.
-
I think because they came from different eras, at least for me, I just never thought about it. As people talk about him ( the glove ), I do vaguely remember him now. But it's very vague. Guess he just didnt't make an impression on my other than the gloves.
-
To be honest I didn't post the video to support Young - he didn't need that for this week lol. They have an older video on Sanders in Cleveland that is pretty good. It really gives you an idea of what goes through a QB's head during the play. And I think they are pretty honest with what he did right as well as wrong.
-
LOL no I have watched the Panthers since their inception BUT I took a job up North for a couple of years so did miss a couple of seasons. It must have been around then.
-
First I didn't know they had a youtube channel; second I do not remember David playing for the Panthers but apparently he did; third, I didn't know Derek had a brother that also played in the NFL and finally fourth, it's a short video and there's realy nothing new here but it's great listening to them dissect plays from a QB perspective - especially if you look at some of the other videos. Anyway, it's only a little over 13 minutes and defintely worth the watch.
-
Agreed the odds are stacked against us and I doubt we win it but you never know. I just know it's nice to be able to even have this conversation again.
-
For me it's all about playing the team that raped us for BY. I just want to play and beat them - if nothing else than to justify everything we gave up. In a way, that would help justify the trade in my mind.
-
I thought the Panthers game was just a fluked as the two previous games didn't go that well for him but like you pointed out, he has played well since then so they may have lucked into something. Of course once teams have some tape on him things may change but regardless, he has looked good. It will be our luck that he plays against us like Bryce plays against the Falcons lol
-
Well if you take out the Panthers game it's more like 64% comp, .75 TD's per game and 1 INT per game. He made the Panthers' D look terrible. However, I do think he is much better than anyone expected and I agree that you build the team.
-
So if the stars all line up and the Panthers somehow win the division and the Bears win out BUT lose to the Packers twice, then we would be the #4 team in the playoffs and would face the Bears here at home. The odds are long it would happen but I would love to see that game.

I like ETN - a lot! Not sure he is as good as Rico right now but though
