How much playing time will Matt Corral get on Saturday?
Davidson Deac II replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
If Darnold gets cut/traded for some late round draft pick, then its at least possible that PJ could be our third qb. -
Simms is right on the money re the competition

Dammit, now I am hungry. If he is a good offensive coach, then he will tone it down to start the season, and add more as the season goes along. -

I agree, the loss of one game isn't a big deal. For that matter, I think people tend to over estimate the importance of preseason games in general. Baker will get a drive or two the first game, maybe three the second game and a few more the third game. What happens in traing camp will be more important. Fwiw, assuming Mayfield is the starter, I think they will keep it simple at first and work in more things as the season rolls along. -

Personally, I think the reps issue is not that big of a deal. It wasn't last year. In fact, Darnold looked decent while sharing time in tc/preseason. The issues came when he got into his 4th and 5th games. -
Our run defense was decent last year. Our ypc allowed was in the top half of the league. And I think it will be better this year. Perhaps not great, but better due to more experience and hopefully a better secondary that will allow the front seven to focus on stopping the run.

I see Sam to the Rams possibly in the near future...

Fair, but then Stafford missed 19 of his first 32 potential starts, so you could have said the same thing about him after two years. -

Probably haven't seen enough of Wolford to say for certain, but it seems the Rams are happy with their qb situation. I think the author was just making up crap when he mentioned the Rams acquiring Darnold. -

Hope we can get something for Darnold, but at this point, there is no reason to think Darnold is a better option at qb for the Rams than Wolford is. -
I get the impression this is more about his upcoming competition with Darnold and Baker. Trying to make a point that he thrives on competition and that he should have went to a school that made him compete. I doubt he has any issues with Ole Miss itself.

Darnold seems like a good guy, and is probably a decent leader on the field. If he could just avoid making bad throws, he would be great.

I saw the entire comment, and I think it was just an odd way of saying that the decision will be made based on performance.

So we finally corralled him? I will show myself out.

Texans preemptively settle with 30 women

An NDA gives no pass from the legal system, unless you are talking about civil law. The parties they settled with are free to file a criminal report. They just can't sue and can't talk about it in public. -
I don't think the stats are deceiving. They show us as a middle of the pack run defense. Middle of the pack run defenses have some bad games against good running teams, and better games against not so good running teams. We were horrific during Rivera's last year. The worst in the NFL. Historically bad irt ypc. We made bad teams look like the 1970's Pittsburgh Steelers. We got a little better in Rhule's first year and improved a little more last year. Hopefully, we can continue the trend of improvement this season.

Vikings Wire writer taking potshots at Panthers
Davidson Deac II replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
The article is absurd. Cousins isn't significantly better than Mayfield and is much older. And would have cost us a lot more. We essentially rented Mayfield for a year. If he plays great, we can suck it up and pay him more. If not, we use him for a year, and see what we have in Corral. -
For better or worse, Baker and Darnold have been in the league long enough to be proven. Corral is the unproven one. IMO, I keep Darnold because he is a cap hit, and cap space is worth something to. And there may come a point this season where we need a third stringer, and Darnold would be acceptable as our third string qb imo. But I would be tempted to force him to do kick coverage or something like that. j/k of course.

MC9's skill set is greater than Baker's.
Davidson Deac II replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Corral could end up being better than Mayfield But what is it that makes a great qb? Is it physical talent? While we can argue about who is more physically talented, the reality is that any qb at this level has a strong arm and a certain amount of accuracy. Not all of them have great running ability, but that is not an absolute requirement. It certainly helps, but some of the best to play the game are slow. The skillset that makes a great NFL qb is the ability to make quick, accurate decisions and throws under intense pressure. And there is no way to know if they can do that until they line up under center. That is why the vast majority of college qb's fail in the NFL. If Corral can do that, well then we made a great draft pick. If not, well he might be able to hang on as a backup for us or some team. -
Fwiw, that actually describes the vast majority of backups. Our own Derek Anderson had that issue in Cleveland. Yet, he was a serviceable backup for us. He could win a game here or there, but there was a good chance if he played longer than a game or two or had to be depended on to win a game with his arm, then it would have been a risky proposition.

Not great, not bad. A little silly at points. Personally, I think Marvel is introducing to many new characters. The comic book nerds will love it, but the general audience may get burnt out soon.

No doubt, there were some games that the run d looked really bad. The Minnesota game comes to mind. Can't help but wonder if part of that was mental, as the defense got tired of watching the offense contribute nothing at all.
