Bell getting some love on NFL.com

very good listen for several reasons. brandt is one of the few media guys worth paying attention to, and not just because he was a cam supporter from early on in the draft process. he knows his stuff and all you have to do is look at his history as a GM. i don't like the cowboys and never have, but i respect the teams he built there.

if he gives an opinion about a player, you should listen.

I would agree with Brandt 100% as you said (and not just cause he was high on Cam, the Panthers now). No arguments there.

Unfortunately, not every good GM makes a very good, or accurate/trustworthy TV or media person for various reasons (can't communicate well in the medium; doesn't watch players; games, or scouting reports; tries to pass off personal issues/opinion as scouting, etc.). That's my only caveat.

I think the Panthers former GM who's on that four letter Network right now is a good example of that currently.

Yeah he was pretty specific with his analysis of the Panthers where most in the national media will give the same old generic assessment of the teams across the league that they discuss. When I was listening on the way into work this morning my first thought was that he must have paid attention while attending camp those two days.

Yeah, "paid attention", then asked questions/followed up, and actually discussed it when it didn't fit the national narrative.

That's the difference with Brandt.

Gettleman made the observation that Bell was left handed and said that the left side might be a natural fit for him. The huddle mocked and laughed. Gettleman was quoted as saying that Bell had "classic left tackle feet" which translated to me as, "I know more than dipsh!ts on a message board."

Bell might not be destined for Canton, but I guarantee you he will do better than Moses Morgan will this year.

Yup!

These are the sort of things/impact, that I expected Gettleman would have coming to Carolina.

Hurney (and even Rivera bit) were just in over their heads, and didn't have the years of NFL-management experience/expertise to notice certain things, then have the cajones to implement them.

Gettleman and Rivera appear to be a good team, especially if Rivera (so it seems) is receptive to Gettleman's inputs.

agreed. and there are several former GMs and coaches who get a lot of work as analysts, but then you look at what they did before they were "former" coaches and GMs and it makes you skeptical of anything they say. guys like casserly and matt millen come to mind. both pretty much sucked as GMs and when i see them talking and drawing from their supposed expertise in the realm of player evaluation, i let it go in one ear and out the other. guys like brandt (actually both gil and andrew) seem to have found that balance between between being good analysts and communicators who had a solid track record throughout their careers.

    • "I'm not stunned," Hansbrough said. "We talked about it at halftime, you asked me 'you have to be pretty happy.' And I said, 'No I've seen this story before.' I've seen this happen. They just had some lapses in games where they just go still offensively, defensively. Their competitiveness just drops a little bit. They never step on anybody's throat. When they have a team with a little bit of a lead, they never step on the throat. It's been something all year." The only disagreement I'd have with Hansbrough's assessment is that it's not limited to just this year. It's been Hubert's entire tenure. Hallmarks of Hubert's teams are: streaky shooting, streaky focus, running your starters into the dirt because you won't sub, and absolutely embarrassingly bad plays put of timeouts. It all points straight to the coach. When the roster keeps changing but the core fundamental issues keep recurring, it's not the players.
    • Leafs are broken. Out of the playoffs and Matthews done for the year.  It's either a very dangerous game against a team who doesn't give a fug and will leave it all on the ice, or a team who's thrown in the towel with an effort to match. And, yes, I'm sitting in the Miami Airport waiting on my next flight. Will be back in Lenovo both 28 & 29 for the b2b.
    • I’m guessing this counts as top 30 visit.
