Requirement to be a top-tier QB

I don't understand the 'no weapons' debate. People will always say Manning had tons of great weapons. I'd say the majority of those weapons were just young players before he started throwing them the ball and they suddenly became great.

top-tier qbs need consistency and playoff wins. Daunte Culpepper had amazing stats his first few years but that didn't hold up and his Vikings teams lost 41- in the playoffs.

Winning is important but most consider Roethlisberger a top tier QB and his Steelers teams have been up and down lately with no major success. Eli Manning is a sure HOFer but he's probably officially 'dropped off'. Rivers hasn't had the playoff success (no SB appearance). Brees won a SB and breaks records. Wilson won a SB but he's only shown it for one and a half seasons. Cam has no playoff wins but has shown small improvements each season.

I'd say right now Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are in a class of their own. Their teams win every year and they regularly outduel opposing QBs. Aaron Rodgers is one step below those two. His teams make the playoffs every year and he has the SB title but GB  tends to be less dominate.

Aside from that you have Brees who breaks records, Wilson and Flacco with SB wins, Rivers with years of quality play though a few bad seasons in the middle of his career.

Everyone else is a step below trying to join the discussion (cam kap) or has dropped off from being at the top (eli ben).

I'd put Rodgers right with Brady and Manning in terms of current ability.  He hasn't won his last SB.  He's just not in the twilight of his career like those two guys are so he hasn't had a chance to break some records.

Win games and a strong media support. One QB can have Denver's roster and described as having no running game, no weapon, no defense, and carrying the team on his back. Another QB can have the Panthers roster and describe as having a great running game, WRs galore, an elite defense, and holding his team back.

What you did there...

I seen it.

6-1

Romo > Brady

Romo > Manning

Romo > Rodgers

5-2

3 Superbowls

AFC Championship lgame ast season.

His WR core has been a revolving door.

2 SB MVPs

Brady is not only top ten, he's top 5.

Pretty boy he may be.....but Brady, Manning, and Rodgers are the smartest qbs in the game.

Yeah, what he did 15 years ago has no bearing on this season. If you're going off past accomplishments, Marino & Montana are still better QBs than any active QB.

AFCCG means nothing. The AFC is terrible. Besides, Kaepernick has made the NFCCG 3 straight years.

Calling 2014 Brady a top 5 QB makes you sound like an autistic monkey. He's not.

    • Sound write-up MHS, as always.  Agree that the smart move that forward thinking franchises make would be drafting a tackle early, if not for sure in R1, depending on who's there. Based on early predictions we're choosing between Fano and Proctor. No brainer here...Fano all day. Proctor does not move the needle for me. In my mind, Icky has less future here than Brooks does. I love Icky, but he has been average as a top-10 pick, one good year where you saw the potential...and that was this year. He's built like a RT and his strengths are there, but he's always played left. I also feel like part of what has held him back from being elite, was his work ethic. He was known for it coming out, but feel like he fell right at home in Carolina and maybe didn't push himself as hard as he needed to. Throw in a major crucial injury that will take time to recover and a historical low return rate to current form, and the outlook is not great. Fano can play both sides and we need to also plan for Moton's departure. Either way, delaying drafting a tackle early this year will hurt us down the line. Our current OL is overpriced and needs to start adding draftees to start balancing out the inevitable changes coming in the next 2-3 years.  As others have said, maybe Icky can replace Hunt or Lewis in a couple years when he's fully recovered....IDK. Also not a guarantee, but then you have to figure out his contract and it becomes even more clouded.
    • It's past time to just eliminate it in terms of an event. Just do the voting, name the roster, and move on. When you get down to 6th and 7th alternates it's just absurd. It doesn't mean anything.
