one aspect about Pep Hamilton that the current coaches lack is the ability to change and make adjustments. when he was the OC at Stanford, and his first year with the Colts, he still wanted to win with power running, balanced formations, down hill running attacking football. but considering he has very good WR/TE corp (Hilton, Wayne, Nicks, Moncrief, Allen and Fleener), a damn good QB, he has the ability to hit a defense in many different ways.

this blurb from september is what Pep had to say about attacking a defense. he gets it.

It's whatever we have to do from week to week to effectively move the football," he said. "You look at the way we played against the Broncos, we were primarily in (three-wide receiver sets) and we were able to move the ball with an up-tempo offense. Then we had a situation like we had on Monday night (against) Philly where we were able to run the ball successfully and our backs were getting downhill, finding holes and our offensive line did a great job of coming off the ball. We wanted to establish the run going into that game and we were able to do it, so we continued to do it throughout the game."

he has used 3 TE sets with I formation backs, a traditional Stanford set, but has also used a pistol set with twins right and TE and split to the left. he has run, and passed out of both formations, leaving teams guessing on tendencies.

    • I know it a real homer take but Im not sure Id slam dunk take that list over Smitty.  Smith just played a different way, he had an ability to just take over a game as a matter of will.  The catch against the giants where he caught it and took a helmet that broke his arm mid air, the games against DeAngelo Hall, 05 Bears playoffs, Ice Up Son, the revenge game against us. Those other WRs may have better stat books but love him or hate him, good guy or bad, Smith just played a different game and when he did look out.
    • Absolutely would have to be anther young scorer with either ELC time or a long term contract...    Could see maybe Kyrou or Robertson.... But I really just dont see him being traded you dont trade your leading post season scorer on a long term deal when he isn't even in his prime yet..   not to mention unless you get more than one of those guys at best it would be lateral with unknown team chemistry.
    • was driving down a two lane rural highway this morning as was reminded of this thread.   Minding my own going 60 in the 55. This massive Chevy rolls up behind me so close all I see is grill. Along comes a passing zone and M firm in the right lane.  Does doofus drop over and pass me? Nope he backs off to a solid 2 second separation.   500 feet after the passing zone you can imagine where he was. Back up my ass.
