Revisiting Marvin Williams

Marvin is better than McBob, & worth what he's making. The problem is he doesn't fit this team at all. He's a SF, not a PF. Especially when he's beside Big Al. If he's playing with a Center that provides a defensive presence you can play him at PF.

It's not his fault he's playing out of position. This is a terrible roster fit-wise.

"Better than" is a relative term in this case.

If you're skill set doesn't fit what a particular team or company does than you are not "better".

Personally, I think we should have just given Cody the reigns. If he works out great, if not then sign Millsap in the offseason.

14 mil is a lot to throw out to a guy with a very limited skill-set.

He was 3/5 from the field. What do you want? How much do you expect him to score when Lance, Kemba, & Al are all taking 15-20 shots a game?

McBob is so overrated on this board. He was a black hole on defense, couldn't rebound, a poor 3pt shooter despite getting wide open looks, etc. He made flashy passes and flashy dunks off broken plays. That's literally all he was good at. And he's making more than Marvin.

Lol @ this post.

Marvin sits in the corner and shoots three's. He has no ability to beat anyone off the dribble even though he's matched up against slower power forwards. He literally has no feel for our offense and it's clear that his catch and shoot skill set doesn't fit what we need at the power forward position. Notice down the stretch tonight it was Zeller getting the burn due to his ability to facilitate and move the ball in our offense.

As for McBob being a black whole on defense... Did you even watch any games last year? McBob's and MKG's wing defense literally made Al look like a competent defender last year. On top of that he was our point guard (forward), the offense ran through him. Sure swinging the ball sounds easy, but when you have Lance out there fumbling passes and Kemba going iso every possession, it's pretty easy to see why McBob was so important. Not to mention McBob is a better rebounder than Marvin (check the stats) and while he wasn't a great three point shooter, he was an efficient offensive player. Finally, he's making more total than Marvin but cap wise Marvin is making $2 mil more (which is the only thing that truly matters).

Oh and did I mention, even Clifford and Jordan said McBob is what made all the parts fit together.

That speaks for itself.

    • The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Right tackle Kaleb Mcgary (who is the blindside protector for Penix since he is left-handed) is going to miss significant time, and it's looking more like it may be all season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-expect-kaleb-mcgary-to-miss-significant-time https://x.com/BKsquared7/status/1959285822236107013. Also, the top backup and swing tackle, Storm Norton (cool name BTW) is having ankle surgery and may miss half the season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-ot-storm-norton-out-6-8-weeks-after-ankle-surgery I don't root for injuries, but its also hard to be too sympathetic given how badly injuries have hit us in recent years. We definitely need to get that W in week 3 for our home opener at BOA. Despite our collective frustration at not being able to attend TC and then having boring preseason games, ultimately the most important objective of the preseason is to enter Week1 healthy, and we have at least done that. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.
    • That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
    • looks like the Lions and Bangles should forget about the playoffs, trade everyone they can, and start over.
