Fun Facts! (Panthers v Vikings edition)

Recommended Posts

September 30th, 1990 was the last time a team scored on two blocked punts in the same NFL game.

On this date:

George HW Bush was the US President

"Goodfellas" had been in theaters less than two weeks

Mugsy Bogues, Dell Curry and Kendall Gill lead a Charlotte Hornets team that was first in NBA attendance

Ken Griffey, Sr & Jr, hit back-to-back HRs in 1st inning two weeks prior

The Vikings had not returned a punt for a touchdown since October 12th, 1986.  Yesterday, it happened twice in one half.

Back in October 1986:

"Platoon" won the academy award for Best Picture

A former movie star named Ronald Reagon was President

Barack Obama is a community organizer in Chicago, just about to be accepted to Harvard Law School

What will scholars be talking about ~24 years from now, when this level of ineptitude is bound to be repeated???

According to Elias Sports Bureau, this is just the fourth time in NFL history a team has scored two touchdowns off blocked punts in one half. The last time it happened was Sept. 21, 1975, when the Detroit Lions did it against the Green Bay Packers. The other instances were back in 1920 -- the league’s first season -- by the Chicago Cardinals (vs. the Detroit Heralds) and the Rock Island Independents (vs. the Muncie Flyers).

Yes, the 2014 Panthers join one team from 1975 and two teams from the 1920's as the only teams to have two blocked punts returned for touchdowns in one half.

How in the hell did this team win three games?

    • I honestly wish Julius Peppers had gotten sick of some of Steve's bullshit and put him on his ass. Because I honestly think that was the one guy Steve wanted no part of.
    • Just worry about it next year.  Its that simple honestly.  its way to early to do what ifs.  I could see us trade/cut chuba and retain dowdle, I could see them let dowdle walk and go with Chuba/Etienne and Brooks, and I could see Dowdle and Chuba both stay and see what happens.  Hell, we still have 6 games left THIS season plus possible post-season...what if Rico or Chuba have an ACL tear or severe injury.  I DO NOT want that to happen, but stuff like that does happen.  Remember RB is the most injury prone position in the NFL due to the beating their bodies take so having some extra guys is never bad, just wish it hadn't come at the cost we paid to get him.
    • I think it’s cool that no one can be really certain what the outcome will be.  That’s a lot of progress! This is a real opportunity for us, I’d be happy with a competitive game and thrilled if we sack up for a W.
