Also some of these long schots will make it via injury to locks. Some will get brought back in during the season. Glanton was cut in September, starter in December. 

Agreed.  But of course, since we can't predict who will be injured, it's hard on that basis alone to predict a given longshot to make the roster. 

I recognize my analysis was perhaps probably too weighted to the existing players.  I'm just thinking that given how many of our rookies and newbie UDFAs made the roster last year, we're already a VERY young team, and so the tendency this year might be not to add as many new UDFAs to the mix.
