what does Bryce's 2026 season need to look like for you to be oaky with extending him?

it can be stats alone, and or team related accomplishments such as division, play off wins, etc.

I think if he can show improvement in all categories, 3500+ yards to quiet the 200 yard average talk, 30> TD's and >10 INT's.

it would be nice to win the division convincingly but hey, we never held not making the post season back to back season against Cam. 

funny thing is, I think most fans would prefer to see an impressive stat line from him than a playoff appearance / win.

just wanted to hear everyone's opinion on what they personally need to see, not trying to bicker with anyone.

oh and inb4 the there's nothing he can do comments...

Be the reason we win games, not despite him. Majority of our wins games last year came because of a great defensive day or a historic running day, not because of Bryce. With the division on the line, he went 1-3 in the last month and had some terrible games.

It should not be about his accomplishments alone such as winning the division or making the playoffs because we just did that and we needed help from the Failcons of all teams while getting swept by the Saints and a rookie 2nd round QB. 

If he can navigate a statistical top 12 QB season in key statistical metrics and we often win because of his contributions and not in spite of them then it should be under heavy consideration and negotiation. Even then though the situation has to be assessed logically knowing that tying up top 10-12 QB salary for a team that already has had the highest paid OL in the league two years in a row is not a sustainable long term approach whatsoever and going forward it will only be more crucial as his career progresses that he is able to elevate the sum of the moving parts around him rather than being wholly dependent on them the majority of the time.

The team won the division 3 consecutive times with Newton under center. That would be back-to-back-to-back years of making the postseason.

Bryce Young is no Cam Newton.

Yea if he put up those numbers it would be hard not to re sign him, even if we dont make the playoffs.

Here is how I see it--he has to be surrounded by elite talent to play well.  We have a $100m per season OL (Approximate salaries:  Ickey $18m, Hunt $24m, Moton $21m, Lewis $17m, Walker/Freeling $8m combined, Fortner $3m--total:  $91m--take into consideration that NO WR is on a second contract and only 1 average TE is on one.  If the salary cap is $300K and the offensive line takes about 28% of it, and the defense takes 50% (approx)  and your QB wants 12% of the cap, then you have about 10% of the cap for WR, TE, RB, and special teams.  That means that Bryce's success is going to hinge on the GM finding first contract talent to play OL by the time the WRs start screaming for $$.  Even with all the parts working, do we have a shot at the Lombardi? If not, keep shopping.

I talked to him at a conference years ago when he was coaching at Wake.  I was not impressed and I wanted to be.

      That's the current dilemma on both parties at the moment. If Ickey comes back too soon, he won't be 100% and his play will suffer. Leading to a potential decrease in his contract. If Ickey is unable to play and sits the entire 2026 season, his contract will still take the same hit since it tells all 32 team that he is not fully recovered. On the Panthers side, I'm sure they would want to keep Ickey if he is fully recovered but he is obviously in a contract year. They don't want to re-sign him to a massive deal since it be too risky and they know if Ickey is able to return to form.  Best case scenario, the Panthers wants to offer Ickey a 1-2 year heavily incentive based prove it deal. However, Ickey would most likely decline the offer and test the market as  another team can come in and offer Ickey a better deal if they are desperate enough for O-line help.

      They have been giving him a lot of snaps at RT to give TMo some relief in camp. I think that will continue for the time being.
