Panthers Roster Trivia - Quiz 2 (ANSWERS NOW POSTED)

One of the things that started me doing some playing around with the roster and creating a personalized database has been some of the debates we've been having here regarding experience vs. youth.  Unfortunately while the online rosters give some kind of data re: "experience" and a players age, they typically don't tell us much about how much game time a player has.  That's been frustrating to me.

Here's an example. 

• Our Lads and the Panthers Roster list UDFA Ricky Henry with 3 years of "experience," yet he's only ever played in 2 games.  Compare him to Kelvin Benjamin listed as "2 years" of experience with 18 games and 17 starts. 

Clearly knowing more about a player's game history is useful.  All these debates we're having about who to keep on the roster are complicated without knowing more about their actual NFL playing experience vs. years in the league.  So, I have created a version of the roster which includes Games Played; Games Started; Postseason Games; PostSeason Starts;  and Games and Starts for the PANTHERS.

Tonight's questions will focus a bit on some of this data regarding games played:

1.  Which roster player has played in the most NFL games in his career (Panthers or other teams) ? Feel free to take a guess at the number of games.

2. Which roster player has started the most NFL games in his career?

3. Take a guess at how many roster players have NEVER played in an NFL game? (not counting exhibition games)

4. Who has played in the most games without ever playing in a post-season game?

5. Not counting the 2015 rookie class, which one Panther DRAFTEE on the current roster has NEVER played in a post-season game for the Panthers? (does not include UDFAs)

1Cotchery has played in the most games. 

2.Tillman has the most starts

3 out of the 90 through camp I'd say 33

4. Derek Anderson. Seems like a safe bet to have never actually played in a playoff game

5. Amini Silatolu. Injured for last years playoffs and I believe the same for our only other playoff run since drafting him

These quizzes are cool while bored at work. For your next one, since the Huddle is compromised of varying degrees of general football knowledge maybe do one that will serve educational to those who are new to being a football fan or casual observers.

Examples could include difference between an under tackle and nose tackle. Or different offensive personnel groupings. Like the difference between a 21 personnel and 11 personnel and how to quickly diagnose personnel. Or how responsibilities differ by position such as FS VS SS. Or difference between SLB AND WLB. One other thing maybe different routes receivers run and what they are called. So many directions you could go with that.

@Panther4life that sounds interesting, but I definitely wouldn't be able to write such questions.  Up until the last year or two I would very definitely be classified as a casual football fan.  The only other time I've been a serious football fan prior to falling in love with the Panthers in 2012 was back in my grad school years in Wash DC.  when I became a huge Skins fan during the golden age of the Joe Gibbs era.  So at this point, I'm actually still more of a "PANTHERS fan" than a "football fan."

I'm wanting to learn the ins and outs and be able to learn what makes a player good. I'm studying the game and the Huddle is helping me learn so much, but I need still educating in the things you write about above!

Maybe someone else can take you up on the idea of doing something with the questions you've suggested,

Hmmm, not much interest in this quiz.  I guess too much else going on with TC for people to focus on these.  But no matter, because @panther4life nailed 3 of the 5, and was almost right on one, and not too bad on the final.

1.  Which roster player has played in the most NFL games in his career (Panthers or other teams) ? Feel free to take a guess at the number of games.

ANSWER:  Jerricho Cotchery  173 games (161 regular, 12 postseason)

 

2. Which roster player has started the most NFL games in his career?

ANSWER:  Charles Tillman:  158 starts (152 regular season, 6 post season)

 

3. Take a guess at how many roster players have NEVER played in an NFL game? (not counting exhibition games)

ANSWER:  24 (26% of the roster)

 

4. Who has played in the most games without ever playing in a post-season game?

ANSWER:  Jason Trusnik.  He has played in 109 games, for 3 teams (NYJ, MIA, CLE) but no post-season game.  Note, Derek Anderson, Panthers4Life's guess is #2 on the list.  He's played in 65 games without ever playing in a post-season game.  But was ACTIVE in 2013 and 2014 for the Panthers post season games..

 

5. Not counting the 2015 rookie class, which one Panther DRAFTEE on the current roster has NEVER played in a post-season game for the Panthers? (does not include UDFAs)

ANSWER:  Amini Silatolu.  He did not play in either the 2013 or 2014 post-season.

By the way, I had meant to comment that reviewing the playing experience of the team made me realize afresh what a young team the Panthers are overall.  We have 11 players who have played 100+ games, but 5 of those were free agents acquired in 2014 and 2015. (Cotchery, Tillman, Harper, Ginn, Trusnik).

The other players with 100+ games played are:  Olsen, Edwards, TD, Cole, CJ, Kalil.

The MEDIAN number of games played for the players on our current roster is 19.5 games. (Median means half the players have played less, half have played more). Seems very low to me even for a 90 man roster with lots of rookies.  The average number of games played is 35.

I may try to compare this to other teams in the next few days.
