Coughlin says he didn't know the flags were on Beckham

lol Coughlin had no idea what the naitonal perception was on this until he got to the locker room and it exploded in his face. He forced him the ball in the late game, he called a timeout at the end to try and put him out there for the "hero" moment.

 

Coughlin thought beckham's hype bought him everyone's love and assumed that the perception would something along the lines of "Fiery, passionate Beckham shows Norman whose the one handed catching man hurrah!" with no understanding of what was actually going on and how it was perceived. he only started backtracking when he got to the podium he completely misread the situation and it's sending him down the drain as well.

 

he was more concerned with backing up Beckham during the game until he realized what was actually happening and realized that continuing to do so would put him on the hot seat as well.
