Not to stick my nose in someone else's business, but I have to agree with Haplo on this one.

Almost every team in the NFL has at least one go to WR. KB was ours, but with him out all season we can't really count him. And if anyone doesn't think Pierre Garcon and Desean Jackson are #1s, then have we ever had an NFL caliber WR outside of Smitty?

Of course you count KB, he's on our team, and will be the no. 1 in TC next year.

You do know that Garcon has had 1 year of production close to KB's right?

I know KB is on the team, but he hasn't taken 1 snap this season. My point is THIS Panthers team does not have a true #1. Next year is another Panthers team. Just like they went 7-8-1 last season, next season could be something totally different from this (currently) 14-1 team. Now, mind you the team has been able to win without a true #1, so maybe it doesn't matter that much. Maybe.

And come on fuzz, does the eye test tell you Garcon isn't a #1. Stats don't always tell the story. Maybe, him playing behind 2 hall of fame WRs early in his career prevented him from accumulating stats. Maybe him playing with a mediocre passing QB (RG3) prevented him from accumulating stats while in DC. I feel confident in saying that if Garcon was on this team for the 2015 season, he would have more receptions, TDs, and yards than KB did in 2014. Now, will KB improve upon his rookie season when he returns? Yes, I think he will improve greatly. But, that still doesn't change the fact that the 2015 Panthers don't have a true #1 WR, while nearly every team in the NFL has at least one.

He probably will, but I hope the injury didn't hinder him. And hopefully we add a respectable free agent to the mix(Alshon Jeffrey?).

I think Alshon would be a huge asset to the team. Probably more than a lot of us think. But I just don't see Gettleman paying him what it would take to get him here.

As for KB, his game isn't really built around speed and quickness. He's just the biggest, baddest mofo going for the ball. I don't think an ACL tear will hinder his game as much as other WRs.

But he is on the team, just like Jordy Nelson is on the Packers.  Injuries are part of the game, we have a no. 1, and he got hurt, not much you can do about that.  We don't have two no. 1's or any of that nonsense, only a couple teams are that deep at WR in the entire NFL.

My eye test tells me that Garcon is talented, but I would prefer KB on my team with the offense that we run.  As to his system...do you know what he plays in vs. us?  We are a run first team, and KB still managed to outperform him as a rookie....

And on to the last point.  I'm not here talking about no. 1 WR's, I'm discussing whatever the hell Haplo calls a "franchise" WR.  Like the Andre Johnsons, Steve Smiths, Fitzgeralds, etc...of old  the ones who strike fear into coordinators hearts....and there are only a handfull of those around the league.  Ever team has a no. 1, or an X if you will, not all of them are all time greats.

Of the teams currently scheduled to go to the playoffs, the teams that have "franchise" WR's, as in a singular one that can take over a game....the ones that scare me are:

Bengals and Texans with Nuk and AJ.

The teams with a good to great receiving corps:

Cardinals and Jets.

New Englands WR's don't scare me, neither do the Vikings, Seattle, Packers, Skins, Chiefs, or Broncos...and for that matter the Panthers.

    • I definitely respect your opinion more than Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, and Carmelo Anthony (whom I just watched on their show, all saying NOBODY wants to get the Hornets in the post-season). You win.
    • For all the good feelings about Bryce Young, when you read between the lines, it's what DC says and doesn't say that makes us know that Bryce hasn't necessarily been the supercomputer that they thought he would be. This season, Bryce has to make a tangible progression on the field. "A big part of it is being able to operate at the line of scrimmage — not in the huddle — when we want to, and he’s certainly capable of that," Canales said about Young. "It’s not solely on him. It’s a group that’s pretty young. You have to trust all the guys to go up there, communicate verbally or nonverbally and execute what we’re doing. We’ve made huge strides in that regard. His ability to alter things based on what they’re giving you will give us another edge, which he’s continued to grow and had some great examples down the stretch where he identified things they were doing, got us to the right check and capitalized on some plays. Want to see him do that more when it’s appropriate. We don’t need to be changing things just to change it." The implications, perhaps insinuations, are pretty evident. Bryce is just going to have to do better. "And then for Bryce, it’s the identification of early on the cues that the defense are giving us, to be able to eliminate parts of your progression before the ball’s even snapped. That happens with time. I’ve seen quarterbacks really own and master, which allows them to play lightning fast." Obviously Bryce isn't necessarily picking things up as fast as Canales would like, and I can only assume that Canales is making comparisons to Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. But, of course, not everyone picks things up at the same rate. Bryce's pace has left Canales wanting for more. During the coming season, I don't believe that it will be good enough for Bryce to start putting things together in December, evidence of the light switch being on is going to have to show itself in September. Basically, it's really the moment that we've all been waiting for, the one that we thought should've happened earlier, the one that brings Bryce's accountability in the spotlight. On an off note, perhaps to that end, we should consider the possible implications upon the draft, but that's another story. Basically, it's time for Bryce to sh¡t or get off the pot. https://roundtable.io/sports/nfl/panthers/news/carolina-panthers-dave-canales-holds-nothing-back-on-bryce-young-in-new-interview
