5 Quarterbacks in 15 years...

After listening to a lot of "should we draft a quarterback" and "panthers can't develop quarterbacks", I thought it would be fun to look up the facts, and what did I find???? The Panthers have only drafted 5 quarterbacks in their 15 year history!!!!! Only 1 of the QB's was selected before the 4th round. Wanna know who they were?

1995: Round 1 (5) Kerry Collins-Was probably the 3rd best QB in franchise history and took us to the playoffs. Got his jaw obliterated and then became a raging drunk. Currently starts for the Titans and plays at a moderately high level, oh what could have been.

Round 6 (195) Jerry Colquitt-Yeah I know, I have no idea who this is either.

2001: Round 4 (106) Chris Weinke-Ah the late 20's QB who played at Florida State with other overrated players like Peter Warrick. He was the most popular QB a few years back when Jake was injured and people were clammering for the Heisman Trophy winner.

2002: Round 5 (137) Randy Fasani-One of the most famous preseason players in Panther history, everyone thought that he was really awesome when putting up numbers against 3rd and 4th stringers. Injuries later that season put him in the starting role and then he showed his true colors.

2005: Round 4 (121) Stefan LeFlors-The second coming of Jake Delhomme accept he had little arm strength and was really short. Played pretty well in preseason though before losing his job to Brett Basanez...ouch!

I guess the point in all this is that the Panthers as an organization really haven't drafted quarterbacks all that well. If Collins hadn't gone nuts there for a while he could have had a statue outside the stadium in a couple years. I think if the Panthers ever want a great QB then they will have to draft one before the 4th, preferably in the 1st round. Oh and the best QB's in franchise history in my opinion are 1) Jake Delhomme (super bowl, nuff said) 2) Steve Beurlein (horrible announcer but he was my favorite QB to watch) 3) Kerry Collins (he quit the team, remember) 4) Chris Weinke (pretty sad huh) 5) Matt Moore (hah, just kidding)

Jake Delhomme isn't fit to sniff Steve Beuerlein's jockstrap. Beuerlein was a BEAST back in the day.

I definitely agree with you but Jake has had more success over a period of time. I think if Steve wouldn't have got shipped off that year he would have really put up some numbers. I loved the way he threw the ball away if nothing was there and that dive against Green Bay is one of my most favorite Panther plays ever!

Check out these Beuerlein stats:

After the season signed with the Carolina Panthers. Beuerlein holds many Panthers passing records. These include single-season records, all set in 1999, for passing yards (4,436), touchdowns (36), attempts (571), and completions (343).

He holds three of the top four single-game passing yard totals in team history (373, 368, and 364). His 5 touchdown passes in the last week of the 1999 season are still a team record.

His 36 touchdown passes were 2nd in the NFL in 1999, and remain the eighth highest single-season total in league history. His 4,436 passing yards led the league, as did his 343 completions.

Steve Beuerlein of 1999 and 2000...now THAT was a quarterback.

we will win with jake, bottom line.look at numbers with him, look at numbers wthout him.it's like night and day.you kids are funny

Whats your point buddy? Nobody questioned Jake at all, I even said he was the best QB in franchise history, but we can't keep relying on undrafted rookies and free agents to solve the QB situation for the future.

That offense was REALLY fun to watch. Too bad Jeffers blew out his knee in the preseason the following year. I wish we would have made the playoffs that year. Remember that we had to run up the score on New Orleans to have a chance? Who was their QB that day???? Hmmmm...

    • It wasn’t completely his fault, but outside of two throws and one or two scrambles he didn’t do much to help. His accuracy was all over the place, numerous passes that were placed poorly and didn’t give the receiver a good chance to catch the ball or do anything with it after. He also continues to display terrible pocket awareness. Even the sacks could have been avoided, they weren’t immediate like the pressure we got on Shough at times. Bryce just often has no feel for pressure and stands there waiting to get sacked after numerous seconds have passed.
    • I really fuging hate this era in so many ways.  I look at those Adin Ross and Neon kids, and I just wonder why tf are they famous?  Why would anyone be desperate enough to gain THAT audience that they’d risk money, career, disciplinary action to go up there and associate with those fuging dweebs?  And back in my day, racist peers got their ass beat.  And not endorsing or approving bully culture, but checks and balances and all…  had those two been bullied, or at the very least humbled, they wouldn’t be famous and glorified for being the fuging idiots they are now.  It seriously pisses me off… they both have done and said multiple, openly racist stuff and major media keeps pushing them, talking about them, and propping them up… and then dummies like Puka who don’t need the platform or exposure lend their celebrity to them.  fuging idiot… and even the other streamers, I don’t get - Speed, Kai…  I don’t understand making nobodies famous at all, but there is at least entertainment value to some degree there, and I could see how young, impressionable kids would find them something to aspire to (sadly), or view as “cool.”  But Ross and Neon?  They’re just shitty, shitty nerds with big ass mouths. I’ve went back recently and watched some classics (in two very different eras and categories 😂)  like Robocop and Idiocracy.  And what I find fascinating is how both movies illustrate how stupid society became by showing what the citizenry is entertained by.  In both, society became anti-intellectual and the citizenry were entertained by lowest denominator, primal-type absurdity - poo like, “Ouch! My Balls!”  Or on Robocop, a guy is a watching a show where they are smashing cakes on ladies’ breasts and then a guy says a line as the camera zooms in like, “I’d buy that for a dollar!” and the audience thinks it’s hilarious.  That’s where I feel like we are now.  Like who watches that clip with Puka and thinks any of that poo is funny or cool?  If I was Puka, I’d honestly be wondering why tf I’m hanging out with these beta ass, racist, cretin ass weirdos.
    • 7 wins this year and some of those against really good teams and yall think Canales might get fired? Lol Good luck getting a better coach in here if that happens.
