Kevin Steele knows students of the game when he sees them.

Auburn's defensive coordinator was asked about the progression of star defensive end Carl Lawson Wednesday night, and his dedication to the sport reminded Steele of a new NFL Hall of Famer.

"The biggest thing is probably how mature he is and what kind of student of the game he is," Steele said of Lawson. "He's very, very serious about football. He studies football kind of like Kevin Greene did when I was with the Panthers. He's got notes, he's taking notes, he's watching film, he's asking questions, he studies the opponent, he knows how to watch film. That's probably the biggest thing. Obviously the talent on the field is there. It's been there."

Lawson and fellow Auburn defensive lineman Montravius Adams trained and studied film with Greene last year, and Greene praised both during a conference call in July. Lawson now has Auburn's sack record in sight and needs two more to match Fairley's mark.
