GM Candidate: The In-House Options

Mr. Scot

Jeff Morrow, Director of College Scouting

Morrow is in kind of an odd place right now.  He's the Director of College Scouting after only one year as an Assistant Director and his old boss is now technically a scout.  He's tied for the most experience in the league and up there as one of the longest with the Panthers.  He hasn't spent much of that time being "in charge" of anything though.  Do you put him in charge of running an entire team with him really only having an extremely short run as "director" of something?

Don Gregory, Senior Executive Scout

The candidate with the most actual experience being in charge of something; also the oldest candidate and one whose recent change in title seemed to be a step back.  Gregory has no real experience in true management, but as it was with Hurney the Panthers could leave the salary cap management in the hands of someone like Rob Rogers.  Me?  i prefer one guy who's over both, but that may not be an option at this point.

Mark Koncz, Director of Pro Personnel

By all accounts, Koncz is a nice guy.  That said, I have to admit this is my "oh my dear merciful heaven, noooo" prospect. Koncz didn't start out as a scout. He was an intern in the ticket office and "rose up through the ranks", like Brandon Beane, under Marty Hurney.  I'm a big believer that GM duties should be handled by true "football" guys, but Jerry Richardson has shown he doesn't see that as important.  Koncz is who I see as the biggest candidate to be a "rubber stamp" GM.  Unfortunately, as Director of Player Personnel, he's also arguably in the best position to take the job.

If the Panthers do go with an "interim GM", it could very well be one of these guys.  And if we then have a half decent season, Jerry Richardson could decide there's no need to change.

This is my nightmare.

Nothing personal against any of these guys.  I just don't like the way the situation could easily play out.  I see better options out there, and I fear they may get passed over in the name of "loyalty".

Oy...

    • Rod kinda confirmed that Staalsy is gonna retire. Called it a great ending to his story.    Glad for him to go out on top with the cup and conn if true.
    • Every union, union adjacent, or union tangent organization does this. They prey on dumb employees  who think the union is there for them instead of the mob or some other social-politically entangled arse. Always degrades the product and indeed the price of that product too. Then money flowing up to people with 0 to do with anything about the product. Its the most simple protection racket and oldest in the book yet people are still sub 70 enough to think it matters for anything other than making money for the racketeers.  I mean this is on their Wiki(yeah i know wiki) The NFL Players Association is the labor union representing National Football League players in matters concerning wages, hours and working conditions, and protects their rights as professional football players. So instead of the player doing that with his own agent which is why you have a fkn agent lol. So they are pilfering money from the player twice. Agent then NFLPA The standard annual membership dues are approximately $15,000. While players are not legally obligated to formally join the union, those who choose not to are generally still required to pay a mandatory service fee equivalent to union dues. Can't take anyone seriously when they talk up unions and since the mob is involved that's why you get those refs doing NFL ref poo. You can even hear former mob Michael Franzese just open admit this now that he's out of prison and making YT videos.(has been for years now)
