We Need Peppers in Carolina

I know peppers is not very popular around here right now, but looking at the big picture we need him to stay in Carolina Blue. Why you ask....

Going back to our superbowl run we were able to get there with a dominant front four that made our secondary and entire defense look great. Looking at the past superbowl champions Steelers and Giants they were able to win due to the rush they could generate with their front line. Having a great front makes everything easier on the rest of the defense.

With that being said, without peppers we have nothing more than an average D-Line in the NFL for years to come. Outside of peppers we currently do not have any big name stars on our D-Line that could take our DL unit to top 3 in the NFL.

Peppers has the Potential to be a top DE in this league if he could get motivated, a new outlook, some good coaching or better motivation from the coaches. He is our best hope in getting our DL back to being one of the best in the NFL.... If he leaves were realistically looking at YEARS before we can even think about getting our DL back to that point....

1) We have other needs... such as a big time QB. So any early draft pick will have to be spent finding our QB for the future

2) We currently don't have a 1st round draft pick until 2011

3) We would need to find a STAR DE, plus Solid DT's to build our line back up....

So with him gone our defensive line moves to mediocrity for years to come.

Yes this offseason I was guilty of being "emotional" and wanting him gone. It angers me seeing all that talent going to waste. But if were objective, our best chance is to get him to produce again.... not letting him go, and for nothing at that.

I want this team to get back to superbowl form again.... but with the solid teams we currently have in the league.... we need Peppers to get off his ass and help us get back to that form. Otherwise were looking at years or rebuilding and mediocrity in Carolina.

He won't sign a long-term contract. It's too expensive to Franchise someone who plays to not get hurt, and doesn't play to make plays like the DE he is. We can use that 20 Mil for Free Agents that will shore up the DT spot, a new DE, the Secondary, problems with depth, etc etc etc.

Pep isn't worth it unless he's gonna play to win.

he doesn't want to stay here....

Right now... maybe not... I don't know. Sources claim he had a change of heart after he signed his tender and wanted a long term deal.... I don't know how true that is...

It's possible we bring in a new coach that he actually want's to stay and play for next year.

And what FA are we going to sign? Just like that were going to bring in a Solid DE, DT, and shore up our secondary in FA?? If it were that easy all teams would be doing it. Looking at the redskins, just signing big names is not whats going to get us back to the level we need to be at. We have to be realistic here. My opinion

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
