TOP 5 GRADES:
DI Kawann Short, 86.8 overall grade

RB Christian McCaffrey, 85.1 overall grade

LB Luke Kuechly, 84.5 overall grade

LB Thomas Davis, 80.7 overall grade

DI Star Lotulelei, 80.7 overall grade

PERFORMANCES OF NOTE:
QB CAM NEWTON, 56.6 OVERALL GRADE
Newton’s team got the win but this wasn’t him at his best. His accuracy was spotty for most of the game, got away with a dropped interception in the second quarter and completed just two passes over 10 yards in the air, with none further than 20 yards. There has to be some sympathy for Newton, who saw pressure on 40.7 percent of dropbacks, but if the Panthers are to build on their strong start he’ll need to play better with his arm.

RB CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY, 85.1 OVERALL GRADE
Much was expected of McCaffrey when he was taken eighth overall in this years draft. He’s struggled somewhat to live up to the billing, but with Jonathan Stewart fumbling twice, he was given the lead role in the backfield. Setting career highs for attempts, yards and yards per carry he was a nuisance for a Falcons defense that did a good job at the line of scrimmage but struggled with the cutback ability and straight speed of the former Cardinal. With Stewart’s struggles, will McCaffrey be in line for a sustained big role going forward?

DI KAWANN SHORT, 86.8 OVERALL GRADE
You may not have heard his name called a lot, but Short was his usual destructive self against the Falcons. He picked up two hits and two hurries, whilst beating enough blocks in the run game that the Falcons struggled to establish their ground game.

LB LUKE KUECHLY, 84.5 OVERALL GRADE
If not recognized by the 59 on his back, it’s hard to miss the Panthers tackling machine with the fans chanting his name whenever he’s in on a play. He had a team best three defensive stops to continue his excellent year.

Also, water is wet.

    • Got to give some credit to the coaching staff on these. You can grab top talents but without good coaching, they just fizzle out. We've seen that a lot around here.
    • Oh, no TV for tonight's game unless you have the NHL Network, I believe. I could be wrong, hopefully?
    • Early returns are great and exciting but also worth noting that Gettleman had a few drafts that looked incredible early on and wound up mostly sucking (2014 mainly). Also PFF; grain of salt, etc.    I'm completely sold on Tet being a stud, knocked a high pick out of the park like we needed to and always should. Nearly sold on Scourton. Not sold on Princely but he had flashes. Not sold on Etienne as more than a 3rd stringer and special teamer, but that's not terrible for his draft position. Big fan of Ransom and think he'll be a starter.  Cam Jackson : IDK, I see limited upside but we didn't see much of him Evans was a nice find for draft position and he had a great rookie year for a late round rookie TE with plenty of veteran competition. Not sure about his upside though, seems like best case is a long term #2/3 TE, which isn't bad. Jimmy Horn, personally I didn't see a damn thing from him that impressed me all year. And he got a lot of opportunities. Pulling for the kid, but not convinced he's an NFLer.   UDFA: Fitzgerald was an amazing find
