I think what bothers most people ( at least myself) is not that he will leave to go play for a few more million...but rather that he doesnt really NEED to do it. I think most of us are hurt more than anything that he won't retire a Panther...and insist he can still play ( which of course...he can)...but risks either not getting picked up by another team ( shameful)  and tarnishing thisd legacy with this team for what...1-2 million at best?  People wanted Smitty to have a statue outside. He was great, but he left/was cit whatever the team and played for another which for me that makes it impossible to have his statue. TD also, even more than 89 deserved a statue out front, but him going to play for another team possibly makes it almost impossible for that statue to happen.  S. Mills played and retired here. JR founded this poo and is the boss noone likes these days but needs to pucker up to his ass. TD should be there also!

TD has the chance to go down as the greatest Panther of all time. But no...he wants to be an old head still thinking he is 25 and chase another season. Good on him. I wish he saved the energy that he feels that makes him believe " he can still play" into retirement and his family...rather than leaving it all on the field.

It hurts to see this man go down like that.

You really don't understand finance and how much money we are really talking about do you?

Okay, let's give a primer on an easy round number of $1 million. Let's say you want to retire with $1 million in your 401k plan and are 35 years old. If you want to get that million, you'd need to put away $882 each month, every month for the next 360 months of your life. You'd need to cough up basically an extra rent payment each month and hope for no market turbulence and 30 years later, you should have $1 million available to draw down for retirement. That's interest and employer matching funds That's a lot of time and work that you have to put in. 30 years of your life for the chance to retire semi-comfortably.

Okay, now we have a good picture of what you or I would have to do to get a million banked away. TD can easily knock three or more of those out before this time next year. He's a smart guy and by all tellings he is extremely savvy about how to use money and grow his assets. He also understands that the kind of money he makes can be generational changing funds if he chooses. He can, and has, reached back to his parents generation (maybe even more) to provide comfort and security, he has established a good life for his wife and kids now, and can establish trusts that will give his children security and access that most would never dream of. He can, and also does, see to the well-being of his community through investment and charitable outreach, putting that money to incredible good use.

And if it is about his legacy as a Panther, don't worry. That is sealed in stone, even if he goes on to play for another team. Sam Mills did play here, but he had a career in New Orleans with the Saints before that and the USFL before that -- yet he is the spirit behind the team and the statue to look up to. The original Big Cat himself wore the Baltimore Colts uniform and never played a down on the field for the Panthers. Smith and Peppers will always be remembered as Panthers and will make the HoF as such. TD will likewise always historically be a Panther.

Even if he becomes a Falcon.

    • I must apologize, my sarcasm at times doesnt translate well in text form lol. At this point I would welcome us signing him, Trey Lance, trading for Jameis Winston, asking about Deshaun Watson and playing phone tag with Tom Brady before I ever fully entertain a season of Bryce Young being the defacto Starting Quarterback of the Panthers.

    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
