Don't be so sure they are similar situations. They just gave eli a huge contract and are now tied to him. If Eli continues to struggle I see him getting plenty of chances to do so.

Sounds like a similar situation to me. Except they might bench Eli if he shows up and plays like Jake. No need to blitz QBs who can't scramble worth a poo. They are going to throw it...Jake just throws it to the other team...or wait I take that back, Jake might not throw at all and fumble instead.

That's because teams are taking the blitz players and using them to bracket Smith with a safety over the top. That combined with his tendency to hold the ball too long waiting for Smith to break clear allows the front 4 to get there.
