Panthers coach Search Update (Dec 28 UPDATE)

FYI: Another Boston Herald writer speculating on McDaniels in Carolina (link)

Quote

There are already several openings (Carolina,Washington), and possibly a few more to come (Dallas, Cleveland, Jacksonville) on Black Monday, the first day after the regular season ends. It remains to be seen if any of those destinations would be attractive to McDaniels, who has the desire to be a head coach once again, but doesn’t want to jump for just any job.

Of the available openings, the Panthers might pique his interest. Team owner David Tepper has said the next coach could assist in the hiring of an assistant general manager who would handle the pro side of matters, while current general manager Marty Hurney focuses on the college side and the draft. If the Browns wind up dumping Freddie Kitchens, that job would also be in McDaniels’ wheelhouse, because he’s from Canton, Ohio, and went to John Carroll University. The Dallas job is one of the most coveted jobs in the NFL. But it also comes with a meddling owner.

It’s important to note that McDaniels got a huge pay raise to stay in New England after getting cold feet on the Colts job. He received a five-year deal, making him the highest paid coordinator in the NFL. One of the years on the deal was reportedly worth more than $4 million. We’ll get an idea how things might play out with McDaniels in the coming weeks.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
