Unsung Hero Award: Ryan Kalil, Kalil has quietly become one of the best centers in the league. Even on a great offensive line that doesn't get much notoriety besides Jordan Gross, Kalil doesn't get mentioned nearly enough.

Most Improved Award: Thomas Davis, Definitely the worst loss for the Panthers this season was when TD went out with his injury. Before he was injured, he was playing every bit as well as Beason does and probably would have been in the Pro Bowl discussion had he stayed healthy.

Rookie of the Year: Captain Munnerlyn, Captain was a huge surprise this year. Has a knack for finding the ball, good tackler, pretty good in coverage for a 7th round rookie. Captain Munnerlyn is surely the best 7th round pick in team history.

Coordinator of the Year: Ron Meeks, I had bashed Meeks for some very conservative looks earlier this season, but he started to take a few more chances as the defense got settled into the new system and BOY were they looking Super Bowl-worthy in the second half of the season.

Offensive MVP: Travelle Wharton, Unusual choice? Sure, but Moore wasn't in the lineup long enough, 89 was limited, and it's hard to pick between Williams and Stewart. So I went with the best offensive lineman still standing at the end of the year. The offensive line is collectively the best group on the team.

Team MVP: Jon Beason, Beason had a slower start this year than he did last, but that can be attributed to settling into the new Meeks system. Once repetition got drilled into his brain enough that things became second-nature again, he became that all-world linebacker that we all remembered from last year. Intensity, sure-fire tackling, solid coverage, great leadership...Beason is the total package. He's going to break a lot of team records one day.

Jon Beason, your 2009 Carolina Panthers MVP.

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
