Our safties play pretty deep IMO, this is to mask their coverage lackings.

We are all in a tizzy about Gamble and Lucas, but they are playing pretty well IMO. They don't have much help behind them.

We are a "BIG PLAY" defense. We rely on the big play.

Our defense will be better after we heal up. You add health + hype for the playoffs and I think our team is going to look unbeatable.

we missed the DTs yesterday big time because it looked like all breeze had to most of the game was step up the middl (to avoid Pep). I am not a cover 2 fan but (in theory) it is supposed to keep play in front of you. i wish we could use the blitz more on 3rd down and *hope* the CBs could stick close enough.

It occurs to me that if our DB's could catch, we would be leading the league in INT's, and a bunch of those TD's against our defense would have never happened. Think about it...how many times have we seen a DB drop one, and then two or three plays later the opponent is celebrating in the endzone?

My point is that the defense is pretty sound for the most part, but they have to make the plays when they get the chance.

Okay here's the deal. Earlier in the season we were stellar in passing defense then after the bye week we started slacking off. The reason? We were playing ahead in most games or fairly close. The issue with that is in the 3rd and 4th quarters if we have big leads we tended to go slow on offense and start conserving our players, and that lead to our defense being on the field an inordinate amount of time. We are one of the few playoff teams with less TOP than our opponents. This leads to a lot of passing and a lot of tired defensive backs at the end of games. Not only that but the fatigue adds up.

Also, notice how it took a LONG time for Brees to get throws out yesterday? That was due to GOOD COVERAGE DOWN THE FIELD. However with 3-4 WR's running around you are going to lose one eventually, and that is what doomed us. We need to get better at rushing the passer consistently, and start causing opposing QB's to start forcing the ball in rather than being comfortable in the pocket.

I pointed out press coverage yesterday to people at least 5 times in "normal" situations, we do it, just not every down.

I know everyone has a right to an opinion but jeez, gimme a break already.
