Question about the Uncapped season...

How does this change teams after this uncapped year?

If a team goes out and spends 40 million over what the current cap is set at (and it wont matter because the year is uncapped)

How does that effect a team in 2011 if a new CBA is reached and teams are over the new cap limit?

i WOULD guess that teams would have to cut those players? But even then they would take a cap hit anyways...

I guess this whole uncertainty will make teams conservative when spending this offseason????

Can big spending this offseason KILL teams in the future- its hard to say considering no one knows what the new CBA will say...

Food for thought I guess...

Any answers?

I would imagine a new CBA instituting a new salary cap would include some sort of buffer period to allow team's to get back under the cap. No way the NFLPA would agree to a new CBA that would potentially lead to many, many players being cut due to the new cap. That would also create a situation where many teams could not sign those cut players due to being very near the new cap as well.

Since it looks like a new CBA won't be worked out (I think the owners are set on a lockout) it really won't matter in 2011. And because of this, I think most owners will not be breaking the bank to sign players, just the opposite, saving their money. But if someone like J Jones or Snyder does, I would assume they would have to make some cuts to get under the cap (if one exists) once a new CBA is worked out.

    • MHS, You are missing Claudin Cherelus is a LB that's in the mix for the 4th spot. He's been here for 2 years and had a couple injuries. I mean he was a wavier claim and been here for evero system, just had bad luck when given a chance. Jon Rhat is the current leader mainly cause of he is the ST ace. But Id say, Cherelus has the same % to make the roster.  CB has the recent wavier claim of MJ Devonshire a 2024 7th rounder. He's got the good-great combine numbers but he's small size. Still he's in the mix for backup duties, in fact all the non-UDFA are wavier claims.  ______________________________________________________________   Dam shame about Clowney. I view this as a bad move. I feel clowny is well worth the 7.7, even as a backup. He played hard the whole year without help. I just feel he would have helped more than either DJ Johnson or Barno.  My only cope is he's 32 and at any point his miro-knee could force him to drop off a cliff performance-wise. I wanted to keep him around at least until the trade deadline and if no chance at playoff, flip him for a anything. NFL is a meat grinder, no love for locals....
    • Might as well. We need to get these rookies on the field and see if they can play ASAP.
    • This hate this part of football and then you have to get down to the 53 Man Roster 🙁
