Agreed on Umberger.

Sweden in the first prelim. Think we can actually win that one. Then Norway and Canada. Two that we COULD drop. I'm thinking we have a REAL shot at bronze if we can get by one of those two. Gold is asking a lot though. Least we don't have Finland in our grouping.

He's had a bad January, but I think he's done well as a winger. Gets around the net. Pretty physical guy (from what i've seen of him anyway). I like Umberger. Gleason hasn't had a much better year than RJ though. Definitely been a good year for him, but compared to the other defensemen on the roster, he's a step behind. Really, the Hurricanes as a whole are a step behind it seems like. :( Ready to see us play good hockey again. Such a depressing season.

this.

jackets have been playing TERRIBLE lately and me calling them terrible is being generous. rj has 15 goals and 15 assists so far this year so i wouldn't really say he's having a bad year

Let it also be known that the only reason Tim Thomas made the team was for sympathy points, because Miller will start every game. At least thats how its planned atm.

Gleason has taken huge steps to become a real defensive force for us. He has no offensive presence, but he can shut some folks down really well.

Honestly, USA could probably use a guy like Umberger because we are team Oompa Loompa up front.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
