Kevin Martin traded for T-Mac

The Houston Rockets, in an abrupt late twist to their long-running efforts to trade Tracy McGrady, have an agreement in place with the Sacramento Kings to acquire coveted guard Kevin Martin, ESPN.com has learned.

Martin was pulled from the second half of the Kings' game Wednesday night at Golden State in anticipation of the trade, sources said.

It remains possible that the deal could be expanded into a three-way deal that lands McGrady with the New York Knicks before Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline, after intense talks this month between the teams.

One source close to the situation confirmed to ESPN.com that landing McGrady with the Knicks before Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline is the goal, but the Rockets and Kings have a deal in the event that terms can't be reached that include New York.

The deal struck Wednesday night will send Martin, Kenny Thomas, Hilton Armstrong and Sergio Rodriguez to the Rockets for McGrady, Carl Landry, Joey Dorsey and an undisclosed amount of cash.

One source with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com that McGrady will either end up with the Kings or the Knicks by the deadline. And Martin is definitely headed to Houston after Sacramento refused trade interest in the high-scoring guard for weeks.

Sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher that the Knicks would receive McGrady and Rodriguez in a three-team scenario.

If the deal cannot be expanded to include the Knicks, it remains to be seen whether Sacramento will simply buy out the remainder of McGrady's $22.5 million expiring contract, setting McGrady up to sign as a free agent and be eligible for the playoffs as long as a buyout happens before March 1.

I like this trade for Sacramento. Martin just didn't seem to fit with Evans and they get a good player (who the Bobcats tried to sign) in Landry.

It seems like a lot of people are making moves and we aren't. I don't want to make a move for the sake of making a move but I am praying the Heat don't get Amar'e and now the 9th seed the Bucks have just picked up Salmons. I just hope we don't miss out on the playoffs because we didn't make a move that could make us better today.

Wow.

I was reading on the ESPN ticker last night, how New York was for sure they were going to get T-Mac. Oh well, sucks for them.

Oh, just read the whole article. Theres still a chance Sac buys out T-Mac's contract, and he ends up with the Knicks

He will be dealt to the Knicks.

The Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks have agreed to terms that will expand the Houston-Sacramento deal into a three-way trade that lands Tracy McGrady with the Knicks, according to NBA front-office sources.

The Knicks will acquire McGrady and Sergio Rodriguez from Sacramento, sources said.

The Rockets get Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill and Jared Jeffries from New York and Hilton Armstrong from Sacramento to make the salary-cap math work. Houston also will have the right to swap first-round picks with New York in 2011 as well as take on New York's 2012 first-round pick.

Sacramento obtains Houston's Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey and New York's Larry Hughes.

i thought the knicks were gonna go after LeBron?

Yeah this is a step in that direction. But I doubt any of the big name guys leave their respective teams. The 2nd tier of guys like Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson could be lured away though and the knicks have put themselves in position to get two of those guys although they got hosed on the draft picks part of the deal.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
