QB Moore "shocked" at Delhomme's release

CHARLOTTE – Matt Moore believes he’ll be the starting quarterback this coming season for the Carolina Panthers regardless of who the team brings in.

“From what they are telling me, yeah, I do feel like it’s my team now,” Moore said in an interview Friday with Carolina Growl.

Moore said he was “shocked” when his agent Dr. Lynn Lashbrook called to notify him that the Panthers were releasing veteran Jake Delhomme last Thursday on the eve of free agency.

“I was completely caught off guard,” Moore said.

Moore said it didn’t really sink in that he’s now the face of the franchise until he walked into Bank of America Stadium earlier this week.

“That’s when it really hit me -- when I walked in the locker room for the first time and seeing everybody and just started talking about things,” Moore said. “It’s been awhile since everybody was together. So yeah, it was a little different. But I will try my best not to let it change me. It’s a good feeling and I realize what a great opportunity this is, which is one the reasons I wanted to sign the tender, get in here and start working my tail off.”

Moore could have waited until April 14 to sign his tender, but instead was Carolina’s first restricted free agent to sign.

Moore said during the short period he was under the restrictions of the tender offer he didn’t receive any interest from other teams.

“I didn’t really expect to, but the bottom line is I didn’t want to play anywhere else,” Moore said.

.....

“I feel good right now regardless of whom they bring in,” Moore said. “That’s not to say there won’t be competition. There’s always competition. But I feel good and feel solid and being given this opportunity I’m going to try to make the best of it. But am I threatened? Not really.”

god i hate carolinagrowl.com, it's the worst carolina panthers site ever. that's why i came here. i even offered that guy a chance to let me re-do his site cause it just looks sooooo horrible.

Matt Moore's gonna destroy next season, btw. we'll definitely be going to the playoffs this season, but probably not the super bowl unfortunately. if favre returns, i think the vikings will go, or the packers if favre doesn't return. maybe the giants, but their defense is still a giant question mark...

Yup, QB's and fighter pilots need to be cocky to stay sane.

Yeah, because QB's have such important jobs, like fight pilots.

Oh god, you must be the best web designer to ever hit the block then. "Offered that guy a chance", huh? What do you use? Frontpage?

    • Many layers my frend- Panthers had a draft recently. They picked 4 defense players. Each player picked 11, 22, 33, 55 as their number. For some players that number match the round or pre-draft round rank, example- Prince was a 3rd rounder and choose 33. Nic was a 1st rounder on some mock drafts and Dan Morgan said they had him as a 1st, he picked 11. Cam Jackson recently switched his number to 55, same as draft and has been telling Dave he wants to be special over and over.  The 44 was to add GOAT feels, thoughts, and more intrigue to this rookie phenomenon. X files was cause it was a great TV show and maybe it was playing when this theory came together.......   I hope this helps!
    • The best things Purdy has are certainly important tools for any QB. His accuracy his timing his decision making etc. I feel like he is a high end Teddy Bridgewater. You can compete and win in the regular season with this especially in a weakened NFC but where his limitations come into focus is when you are trying to contend for a Super Bowl you are going against elite and in some instances generational QB's like Mahomes. And when the time has come for him to go up against Mahomes he simply can't get it done. Now certainly he is not alone in that regard and people will point to another highly regarded QB such as Josh Allen who also cannot get by Mahomes. But the difference I see is Allen is not IMO at a phsyical disadvantage in that matchup whereas Purdy is. And that is with what had been to this point a comically stacked roster around Purdy and let's be clear we cannot understate that regardless of which side of the fence we land on in this debate. Purdy has had a top 5 roster and a top 5 coach. And the last time they went to the Super Bowl they leaned on McCaffrey extremely heavily. Now with what they are having to pay him and divert limited resources elsewhere they face a steep climb to get back to the Super Bowl let alone actually win it.
    • Lonzo mentioned Melo going to the Clippers, but he also said we would draft Dylan Harper and he isn't making it to 4.
