What If ...

just for fun, i decided to browse through our previous rosters and see what 53 man team we could have right now if we had found a way to retain all of our best players we lost to free agency, or trades, or whatever. all of these folks are still of football age and healthy as far as i know. the starters are listed first. i moved some of the players to other positions, 'cause i thought they fit better there, but i didn't change anything big.

QB: Matt Moore, Jake Delhomme

HB: DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Goodson

FB: Brad Hoover, Tyrell Sutton

TE: Jeff King, Dante Rosario, Gary Barnidge

WR: Steve Smith, Muhsin Muhammad, Ryne Robinson, Rod Gardner, Dwayne Jarrett

LT: Jordan Gross, Frank Omiyale

RT: Jeff Otah, Geoff Schwartz

LG: Keydrick Vincent, Duke Robinson

RG: Travelle Wharton, Jeremy Bridges

C: Ryan Kalil, Geoff Hangartner

LDT: Kris Jenkins, Louis Leonard, Tank Tyler

RDT: Ma'ake Kemoeatu, Ed Johnson

LE: Tyler Brayton, Charles Johnson

RE: Julius Peppers, Everette Brown

MLB: Jon Beason, Dan Connor

LOLB: Will Witherspoon, Na'il Diggs, James Anderson

ROLB: Thomas Davis, Tim Shaw

CB: Chris Gamble, Ken Lucas, Richard Marshall, Captain Munnerlyn, Dante Wesley

SS: Chris Harris, Charles Godfrey

FS: Sherrod Martin, Deon Grant

K: John Kasay

P: Jason Baker

LS: J.J. Jansen

KR/PR: Steve Smith

so, in my opinion, we only have 66% of our best players that we could have had we found a way to retain them. with the salary cap and all i doubt it could've ever worked out, so this doesn't really mean anything. i just thought it was interesting. 66% is pretty decent though. even with our questionable offseason, i think we're moving in the right direction, even if it's slowly. the sad part is, i'm not even sure that's a strong super bowl calibre team, and i was taking players from a decade of rosters.

Well the good news is, if we want Rod Gardner to come back and be our fourth receiver we can probably get him, since he's working at a Dairy Queen somewhere right now. Also interesting that you have Deon Grant on here but not Marlon McCree, who I think was better.

well, just a matter of preference i guess. i think grant has done fairly well for seattle. gardner isn't great by any means, but look at our wide receiver pool for the last 10 years who are still of football age. that's the sad thing.

Ken Lucas???? I really hope you meant to type Ricky Manning Jr.

ken lucas has less off the field issues. besides, he was the best run stopping corner this team has ever had. he'd shoot in there like a strong safety, and still had the coverage skills to rack up interceptions every year. i don't know what happened to him last year. from his stats he obviously didn't do well, but that's as much as i know about it. i thought he did good when he was with us though.

I loved our cornerbacks when we hand Chris and Ken starting... At least on Madden. My D was killer.
