tells you all you need to know about what we should be doing with who's on the roster now:

http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2010/04/what-orlandos-zone-has-highlighted.html

-- Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown elaborated at shootaround this morning on comments he made Sunday, concerning how effectively the Orlando Magic is using a zone defense.

Orlando's strategy is an indictment of what the Bobcats aren't offensively.

Brown said the Magic isn't guarding Raymond Felton or any of the centers, and getting away with it, and guarding Boris Diaw only when he has the ball. Essentially, Magic center Dwight Howard can play a one-man zone (without violating the defensive 3-second rule) because none of the three Charlotte centers is much of an offensive threat.

That being so, Brown indicated, it's remarkable how few offensive rebounds the centers are getting. Tyson Chandler has three, Nazr Mohammed has five and Theo Ratliff has none. By definition, if Howard is roaming around as a one-man zone, he's not boxing out the opposing center, yet they're not getting any offensive rebounds. Also, Gerald Wallace has just two offensive boards in this series.

Since the Bobcats don't have many great jump-shooters (any great jump-shooters?), Brown said the priority tonight in trying to defeat Orlando's zone tactics is quicker, more decisive ball-movement. He watched the Dallas-San Antonio playoff game yesterday and was struck by how much better those teams were than his at decisively passing the ball. Ball movement is more important than player movement when facing a zone defense.

-- I asked Brown if he could gauge his players' attitude heading into a game where they could be swept. He said he didn't know, then added this team has always cared and tried, so that shouldn't be a worry.

    • Backup QB is always the most popular.  When Young became the backup he became popular again.  Bad performance means people want change.  Even if its the same thing over and over.
    • Canales talks exactly like narcissists talk because they can’t understand how their actions impact other people negatively. They’re describing what they think they should be feeling or saying instead of actually experiencing it.  if you’ve ever dated one you know exactly what I mean and it’s off putting if you’ve gone through it.  im sure his apology to Izzy sounded like “I never thought you’d be so upset by me masturbating with Brad Idzik during a film session. Again. I thought we had moved past that. In the future, you need to make your displeasure more clear.”
    • I like Chuba as a person. However when we signed him to that extension I said it was a risk because he had his best statistical season while we have invested over the last 2 seasons what is now a league leading amount of money in the offensive line and it's only going to increase with us needing to sign our left tackle to an upcoming extension. We cannot afford all this. Our defense is already amongst one of the lowest invested groups in the league and we expect them to shoulder the burden. As far as Chuba over Rico let's just call it what it is. Our franchise making decisions based on what we've invested in a player instead of doing what's best for the team. We've already been doing this with Bryce Young and we again have one of the league's worst QB rooms. It cannot continue. How many blowout losses can we witness before things like this finally click? Either we begin operating like a serious franchise or we will look up and reach the milestone of being a cellar dweller for 10 consecutive years.
